It was such that the footsteps thudded fast toward her and to her; it felt like a whole nation was coming at her.
Though she could not see them, when she paid close attention through her super hearing aid, she was now able to determine the number of people walking toward her.
"One, two, three, four, five…" Adeline counted, shaking her head in a weird, bestial manner.
As she had previously felt that a whole nation walked heavily on her, now that she paid close attention to their heavy footsteps, she could tell that the whole numbers of humans who walked at her were only fifteen, excluding those who were already with her.
And immediately, Adeline saw an old man walk to her face. And even as she groaned in terror at him, he had not shivered the smallest fear.
