Chapter 43 - Chapter 43 - Slaying The Hero

A/N: For reference, the number of stars in a galaxy is on average a hundred billion. And a single supernova can annihilate a galaxy 😭. So If Astraeus sounds unnecessarily broken, it's because he is. He's basically the superman of this world, so yk, I can't really have him be anything outside of the top few strongest in the verse. Oh and I also got a new editor, credits at the bottom

Astraeus POV:

As the building toppled onto me, I stood there and watched. I was currently in a fairly advantageous situation. The Reaper seemed to be in a situation where he was unable to kill me, the reason wasn't of much relevance. I took a few moments to ready myself, with how several thousands had died today, I couldn't let the boy live.

I flew into the sky, the sunshine made it's way into my body, revitalising it. I was the strongest hero in this nation for several reasons.

First, my Unique Attribute, Star. When I used it to it's full power, my body would gain the power of a galaxy full of stars going supernova. That was my last resort, but I didn't need to use it right now. What I was currently using was a devolved version of my attributes full power, my body currently carried the power of only a few stars going supernova.

I could honestly maintain this state for several centuries if I really wanted to.

The second reason I was so powerful was my genetically enhanced body. Receiving the energy of a star nourished and healed me, and because of this, only when the sun was at its peak could I actually use my full power. That's because if I used the full power of my attribute, my body would constantly tear itself apart. But with the regeneration granted to me by my enhanced body in conjunction with the power of the sun, I was practically immortal.

'Judging by the placement of the sun, it's around 11:50 right now.'

I could maintain my full power for a fair amount of time. It's been theorised that I'd be able to maintain my full power for an hour. But the only thing is... after I unleashed my full power I'd probably die.

And on top of that, if I exerted all my power in this city, it'd end up being annihilated.

I flew higher into the sky, the building toppling onto me didn't even leave a mark. However, the gash in my chest still hadn't healed even with the sun accelerating my already terrifying regenerative factor.

I then received a message, all my senses had been enhanced to their very limits. This meant that I could hear many frequencies ordinary humans couldn't.

"Astraeus, the federation has decided that we need to end the Reapers life. Even if you have to destroy this city, kill him. We'll be sending in back up as soon as possible."

I didn't bother listening to their orders, I was going to save this city no matter what.

I used my enhanced vision to find The Reaper instantly, I flew towards him. My fist flew towards him however he calmly parried the blow and sent an attack towards my face. I dodged it, but that only lead to a kick being landed on my solar plexus. I sent a flurry of random attacks to see how he'd react, however, he was able to dodge each and every blow perfectly and use the opening to land a blow in my solar plexus.

However, I took each blow head on, every fibre of my being was focused on killing the boy. It was then that I saw him charging up another eye beam, however it wasn't aimed at me. It was rushing towards the city. I quickly disengaged and rushed towards the city in an attempt to stop it.

Reaper POV:

The moron of a man flew to the city at speeds that even I found impressive, the residual explosion of my attack kill several citizens. He was able to block my attack for the most part though, however I then used flash step to close the distance and I appeared behind him.

I reeled my arm back and shoved it into his back, I then grabbed onto his spine and corrupted it, I then reached a bit further and destroyed his Aura Heart. I watched as his body finally collapsed onto the ground. I could tell that he was still alive, after all, it was currently noon. The sun was at its highest. This meant his regenerative power was at its peak. So, he should be able to survive this.

"Astraeus, I could've killed you at any point, but the thing is. I need you, or rather. We need your body, your modifications seem quite handy. So, we'll take you apart and see what makes you tick."

Astraeus was on the floor, unable to move a muscle. Well, he didn't really have a functional spine, so he couldn't really do anything anyways.

"You know, I'm really jealous of you. You're practically a Demigod. If someone like you had bothered to learn how to fight, I'd have probably failed my mission. Actually, If you had bothered to go full power, I'm not sure whether I'd be able to put you into such a state."

"You little shit, what the fuck did you do?"

I spat on his face, he was talking way too much for a guy who was gonna die.

"Shut it you fucking useless shit bag, I just corrupted your spine and destroyed your Aura Heart. You'll live so don't worry."

Astraeus looked up at me, or he tried. He couldn't really move anything below his neck.

"Why? Look at the state of this city, so many buildings have been toppled, so many people have died. What could possibly be worth, all of this death and destruction?"

"I... I don't know."

His spine didn't seem to be regenerating, but, he began to form a spine with the residual Aura in his body. He forced his body to stand up.

I dashed forward and grabbed his face and slammed it into the ground, however he survived. Even without an Aura Heart, he still possessed enough Aura to rival a fairly powerful soldier.

"Seriously, if I had an Aura capacity like yours, I don't think I'd ever lose."

Astraeus didn't bother replying, he just kept punching at my face, I dodged each blow with ease.

"Don't bother trying to fight, it'll just worsen the rate of your body's decay."

Astraeus laughed before continuing.

"Even if my body can't move, even if I can't produce Aura. I, Astraeus, will not decay."

Then, a rock landed on my head, it didn't draw any blood but it shocked me.

I turned around and saw that some of the citizens had surrounded me while I had my conversation with Astraeus.
