Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

"In the year 1975, portals appeared around the world which came to be known as gates. These gates contained monsters that would be able to escape from the gates if they were left alone.

These monsters had the ability to get stronger by killing humans or each other which gave them the ability to evolve once they had gained enough experience to raise their levels high enough. If this wasn't enough to make them a serious threat, the stronger monsters were also impervious to any weapons that mankind attempted to use against them.

Luckily, humans with powers that could fight back against these stronger monsters appeared. Not only did they have powers, they could also raise their levels the same way as monsters could. These people became known as hunters, and they helped to keep the gates stable, while also improving the world with the materials they brought back from gates, not without being paid for it though.

Eventually, the hunters started to group together and create guilds to make defeating monsters and clearing gates easier. As these guilds and hunters needed a way to be regulated, the hunters association was created and is still used to this day.

Since then, 47 years have passed and the world has become how we know it to be now."

A 16 year old boy named Lugis was sat at a desk in a classroom with around ten other students who were also at their desks. At the front of the room was a man around 60 years of age, he was explaining the simple history of Earth since the gates had appeared.

"That concludes today's lesson, make sure you finish the homework I assigned you earlier in the lesson as you will need to hand it in on monday. Have a good weekend everybody, see you all next week."

Immediately after the teacher said this, everyone stood up and left the room. The one who was quickest to leave was Lugis, as he sprinted through the halls and then out of the school entirely. He did not stop running until he reached a large building which at a closer look could be easily recognised as a hospital.

Lugis walked through the doors and into the reception area where he was greeted by the woman at the front desk, "I see you're back again as usual. How long has it been now?"

Lugis looked at the woman and replied, "Its been around two years now. I assume the room is the same as usual."

The woman looked at him with a hint of pity in her eyes, "Yep, room 231. Spend as long as you need in there."

"Thank you, I won't be long today though as I have work in a bit."

After saying this, Lugis walked for around a minute to reach the stairway, and then for a few more minutes up the stairs until he reached the third floor of the building. Once he was there, it was a short walk to room 231.

He entered without knocking and closed the door behind him. Lugis walked over to the bed in the corner of the room and stood next to it in silence for a minute before speaking, "Hi dad, how have you been since last time I came?"

Despite his question, no answer came. However, this was of no surprise to Lugis as his father had been in a coma for the past two years. This was due to monsters escaping from a gate which had led to a scorpion like creature to inject him with enough poison to put him in a coma, but not enough to kill him.

Ever since then, Lugis was forced to pay for his father's treatments if he wanted him to survive. This was especially difficult as he had no other family, because of this he had to start working part time jobs frequently as well as using his father's money to keep his treatments going.

After speaking to his dad some more and telling him about his life, Lugis decided if he was going to get to work then he would have to leave soon. However, before he left the hospital, he went to the toilet to make sure he wouldn't need to go while working.

Once he had finished, he looked at himself in the mirror to make sure he looked presentable for his job as although it was not necessary to look good, he always felt it was better to look good as that could affect his chance of being hired again.

Lugis had dark blue eyes and wavy blonde hair which he had been told by his father came from his mom. Despite never meeting her as she left right after he was born, Lugis' dad told him about his mother even though most of it was negative as one would expect.

He was an average height of 5'10 and had a decent frame for his size due to his work.

After looking at himself for around half a minute, Lugis left the bathroom and went back the way he came in through the hospital. Once he was outside, he started running again for half an hour without a break as it was his only way of getting around.

He reached his destination and saw a group of people holding weapons and wearing armour standing nearby a large blue portal. Half of the people were all in blue armours, while the others had yellow armour. This was due to them being two high ranking guilds who were doing a joint expedition into the gate.

This gate was F ranked and was named Golem's resting place. This was due to the only monsters inside being the destroyed parts of golems which had limited mobility due to not having an entire body. However, golems in their full form were known to be strong and dangerous creatures which had many elemental properties.

Although it was uncommon for high ranking guilds to go into low rank guilds, it was not impossible as they occasionally went on research missions and not always financially important ones.

Lugis walked over to the group of people and introduced himself to them all. The group all seemed to be incredibly nice people and welcomed him with open arms as they promised his safety in the gate.

They also informed him that he would be working as the groups only porter, as they were not expecting too many materials being gathered in their expedition. This meant he was most likely in for a less strenuous job as there probably wouldn't be too much to carry.

After this, the group checked that everyone was ready, and they all entered the gate.
