In the year 1975, portals appeared around the world which came to be known as gates. These gates contained monsters that would be able to escape from the gates if they were left alone.

These monsters had the ability to get stronger by killing humans or each other which gave them the ability to evolve once they had gained enough experience to raise their levels high enough. If this wasn't enough to make them a serious threat, the stronger monsters were also impervious to any weapons that mankind attempted to use against them.

Luckily, humans with powers that could fight back against these stronger monsters appeared. Not only did they have powers, they could also raise their levels the same way as monsters could. These people became known as hunters, and they helped to keep the gates stable, while also improving the world with the materials they brought back from gates, not without being paid for it though. 

47 years later in the year 2022, a 16 year old boy named Lugis was forced to work as a porter in an attempt to make money to pay for his fathers treatment for a rare illness caused by a scorpion-like monster's poison which has caused him to be in a coma.

However, while working for a high ranking guild as a porter in a low level gate, an accident occurred which would change his life forever.
