Chapter 24 - the journey part 1

The only sound was the sound of my luggage being put in my carriage today is the day I set off for the empire.

Everything else was settled kyle was incharge of the army while I am going to be away with Elise as my escorting advisor.

The artisans and craftsmen of serothor were building some devices and new defensive structures while I am taking some blueprints and schematics of the slime gel weapons to the empire as promised.

It would take a while to get to the empire at least two weeks to up to a month the reason for the long journey is the fact that there is no main rode to the empire only interconnected cross roads from other cities.

Serothor actually didn't have a main road at all It has been in progress for 50 years my grandfather spent his entire life saving and having bricks made.

My father was planning to start the construction just before the war so it will be a while before it actually happens.

In simple words it'll be a rocky ride I wanted to just travel by foot but my father said it would be disgraceful for our royal family to travel as commoners.

I understand this but I tried to explain how carriages were a bigger target and he wasn't having any of it.

I saluted to my goodbye gathering which was the active army my family and kyle along with anyone who wanted to see me off.

I climbed into the carriage and only felt absolute dread I have always hated travelling I find it a waste of time I wish I could just teleport to my destination.

Unfortunately even though there is magic in this world there is no wide spread form of...ethical teleportation I don't even think it is a common concept.

Then I heard Oz start to speak

"It is a 'concept' what do you think the fire flute tries to imitate?"

He continued but this time sarcastically.

"Oh humble man from the god lands please forgive us as we are but nothing but primitive old fashioned medieval people's... do you know how ridiculous you sound sometimes?"

I felt guilt well up inside me I guess that is kind of what I see when I look around but I know the truth people in this world just have a different path to advancement I'm sure if this world and earth were to fight this world would win.

They might not have nuclear weapons or advanced machinery but who needs it in a world with people strong enough to level entire cities? no one.

Elise climbed into the carriage and we were off through the front gates in no time at all as I was hoping for a quick journey.

Elise started speaking in her generally constant strong voice.

"I wonder what the capital of the empire is like I have been meaning to ask but I've never actually heard what the empire's name is hahahaha"

I spoke out of habit reciting straight from what I remember from the books.

"The empire formally the dawn empire however they relinquished that name centuries ago and now they claim they are the only nation that is worthy of the name 'empire'"

Elise exclaimed

"Oh wow do you know anything else about the empire? I'm really excited to see it myself"

I spoke stopping myself from saying sensitive information I just spoke about the capital for a few hours with Elise.

The capital of the empire a large city called the twilight citadel built on top of an ancient elven city the city itself is now ancient it is surrounded by fields of ambrosia a plant capable of extending life and healing curses.

Actually I just remembered an important plot point which I can use as leverage with the empire a parasitic plant that will infect the ambrosia later.

We took three breaks in the first day for the dracodons to rest I was a bit suprise when I first saw them but they are more common than horses here but less expensive which works out since they are hyper resilient to injury and overwork.

We would ride through the night there were two drivers Aaron and Eren they were siblings we would only be stopping for breaks and gathering supplies since dracodons only need 20 minutes of sleep a day.

As dusk set Elise suddenly asked a rather unexpected question.

"Say prince Zeth are you not out of the line of succession?"

The thought had to occurred to me but before I could give an answer Oz replied for me.

"The monarchy of serothor is an elective one as you should already be aware when the king dies his children will have an election to see which one will rule then they are removed from succession"

That was actually something I didn't know I really need to get caught up on the politics of my position.

The moon then was raised into the sky this world only had a single moon but it appeared much larger then earth's it was enough that when I first saw it I thought that it was going to collide with the world.

Honestly according to the books I'm not that far off I felt myself slip out of consciousness today was merely the beginning of a long journey.

There is only winding dirt paths and a few cities on the road to the empire and once there it would take even longer to reach the capital luckily it is remarkably close to their border near serothor.
