Chapter 25 - the journey part 2

A few days passed as we travelled and today we would reach the first city since Serothor the independent holy city of Velor God of the hearth and love.

He was only a minor god but was worshipped by many especially parents and people wishing to fall in love I cannot really say anything negative since the gods actually exist in this world.

The road close to the city was better and made of cobblestones we passed a few farms and such Velor is an important trade partner with Serothor so I would have a meeting with the arch bishop.

Then the city came into sight huge walls made of ironbark with a stained-glass covered cathedral reaching above the walls.

Ironbark is the only wood which is impossible to set on fire it was tough and the tree grew fast making it an excellent material to build with.

We entered without problem holy cities are respected by all major nations except the priestdom of joryac since they are said to be protected by the gods themselves.

We would stay at an inn and I would have dinner with the arch bishop we had been exchanging letters by bird for a few days before our arrival.

As we entered the city we were stopped by heavily armoured guards in full plate armour with the holy symbol of Velor a tree on fire one of the guards approached the carriage window and addressed me.

"Hello good fellow may I know why you have come to the city of Velor the place of worship for the divinity Velor under the current jurisdiction of arch bishop Abilene?"

I took a breath and spoke clearly without too much arrogance.

"I am the second prince of Serothor general prince Zeth I am passing here on my journey to the great empire I have been exchanging correspondence with the archbishop whom I have a meeting with."

The man stepped back a bit and spoke again asking another question.

"Your highness prince Zeth the archbishop has been awaiting your arrival I would ask humbly for your letter of invitation"

I gestured towards Elise who handed the guard our invitation letter the guard read the letter then looked at me and spoke.

"I will send some templars to guide you and your people to your inn so you may rest the arch bishops people will collect you for the meeting"

I nodded and after a little while we reached the inn we would be staying at it felt nice to finally be inside a city were we didn't have to worry about magical creatures.

We had only encountered slimes and lone wolves most of which ignored us other than nests and hoards monsters in this world were often docile but there are some notable exceptions.

We had two rooms one for the drivers and one for me and Elise each room had two beds so it wasn't any problem.

I mostly wrote in my journal I got specifically for this journey I writing any notable information and also collecting useful information for when serothor makes a road.

When the sun began to set a man dressed in clean red robes arrived at the in and introduced himself to me.

"Hello second prince Zeth general of Serothor I am Arthur the high priest of the cathedral here at Velor and speaker for the arch bishop I am here to collect you and any servants you may have"

After a few light pleasantries I called for Elise and we were guided to an ornate carriage made of ironbark with red tapestries depicting Velor on the sides acting in place of windows.

As we rode along Arthur spoke.

"I humbly ask that once we reach the cathedral you hand your weapons to the templars as violence and anything meant to harm is strictly forbidden from the main building"

I looked at him and replied with a smile.

"Of course entertaining the holy place of Velor with weapons would give him a bad impression of me and I quite like the idea of a family one day so his blessings are almost a necessity"

I felt the sudden stare from Elise burning holes into my soul I might of caught her off guard with the end of my sentence though I did mean it one day it would be nice.

Arthur then asked a question.

"Oh my how lovely are you a believer? or perhaps... a follower?"

I replied quite simply.

"Yes I am a believer though I do not believe the divinities are infallible and as such do not follow a single one"

Arthur's face went from excitement to shock and horror within moments it would be stupid to not believe in the gods in this world but to the people here calling the gods flawed was almost unthinkable.

The rest of the ride was silent and we made it to the cathedral I gave the templars my weapons and instructed Elise to do the same though she looked conflicted at doing so.

As soon as we entered we saw a tree it was an iron bark tree it was hard to actually tell but the entire cathedral was one singular tree with stained glass placed in certain places and the outside was sculpted.

We heard screaming and yelling but before Arthur said anything I decided to speak first.

"How are the new mothers?

Arthur looked surprised at me but I know quite a lot of the cathedral citizens of the city, rich noblewomen and pilgrims all flock here to give birth as a way to hope for an easy birth and healthy child.

Arthur spoke.

"Good so far velor has given many blessings to the world healing most the mothers ails though we had one unborn but that was a double"

We continued on into a grand hall and sitting at a table was the arch bishop Abilene clear smooth skin bright red hair and redish brown eyes she had a devilish grin showing her cunning

All I could now think was the fact I might of just screwed myself over.
