"Are you sure you don't wanna ride back with me?" Eze questioned for the hundredth time.
I internally groaned at the question "Positive." I answered back, not really looking her way.
During school I decided to text Ricky and ask if he could pick me up and of course he said yes. I wish I didn't have to ask for his help with avoiding my mate, mainly because I know I'll immediately have to tell him everything, including why I've been avoiding him.
Now that I was waiting out here I kinda felt bad for asking him to pick me up, especially when his school is a 30 minute drive from mine. I told Eze my plan as soon as school ended and she wasn't very happy about it, she doesn't trust him but that doesn't matter because I do.
Anyway, back to the matter at hand. Eze's been standing outside with me for the past five minutes despite that black SUV from before already being parked in front of the school. "You know you can leave, I'll be fine." I glanced her way as she continued looking out at the parking lot.
"Nah, I'm okay with waiting." She answered with a wide grin "Plus don't you like my company?" She teased as she moved both her eyebrows up and down in a flirtatious manner. I snorted at her goofy grin before slightly shaking my head, she's a complete weirdo.
"Stay if you want, I just wanted to let you know you could go since my ride's not going to be here for another 10 minutes." I revealed with a shrug.
"Speaking of your ride, who's picking you up?" She questioned, glancing between me and the parked SUV. Her gaze was anxious and made me wanna laugh at how nervous she looked. I'm starting to think I'm a bad person...
"Are you asking as a friend or a pack member trying to protect their Luna?" She looked to the side at my question, slightly rocking on her feet.
"Why can't it be both?"
I sighed as she glanced at me, giving me puppy eyes as she continued to silently plead for an answer. "Never said it couldn't." I grabbed my phone and turned it on, showing the slightly cracked screen to Eze as I pointed at my screensaver "This is who's picking me up." I watched as she looked over the picture, she studied it as if it was her favorite art piece from a museum.
"Can't really see his face." She replied after several seconds.
I shrugged, pulling my phone away from her unsure face, "It's a blurry photo." I said simply, not at all trying to reassure any worries she might be having. Ricky's a good guy so they're just gonna have to trust him and most importantly, trust me. "Did you need to have a clear photo of him?" I questioned.
"Nope." She answered, letting out an abvious awkward laugh. After that we both just continued to stand in silence until I noticed a dark blue motorcycle pull into the school parking lot.
I quickly grabbed my bag as the bike pulled to a stop in front of us, "Well that's my ride." Eze looked between me and the bike with wide eyes that I promptly ignored as I grabbed the biker helmet being handed to me. I rolled my eyes at the helmet, it was a sparkly purple helmet with a black outline of a wolf on the side. I punched Rickys' shoulder as I saw him starting to snicker. I hate this helmet and he knows that, that's why he gave it to me.
"I'll see you tomorrow." I said, climbing onto the back of the large bike before placing both my hands on either side of Rickys' waist. Ricky turned to me, waiting till I nodded to turn back. He looked to the side at Eze, tipping his helmet covered head at her before speeding out the lot. I snickered as we left, knowing she wouldn't be able to hear me over the roar of the motorcycle anyway.
I watched the scenery as we rode by, enjoying how everything mixed together in a blur. I sighed as I closed my eyes and laid my head on Rickys' back, my grip on him loosening as I got lost in the feeling the fast air gave off. It was like running in wolf form but with less exercise, and you know no painful shifting process. I mean it's not that painful, but there's still a little bit of pain everytime you shift.
My eyes opened when I felt the bike slowing down as we pulled into the driveway of Rickys' two story home. It wasn't as large as a pack house, obviously, but it was pretty big even for his family of six. I watched as Ricky climbed off the bike, pulling his helmet off to reveal his perfectly styled black hair, "You sure you don't want to go home and get a change of clothes?" He asked, stretching his hand out towards my still seated body.
I took the helmet off, shaking my hair out as I grabbed his hand and climbed off the bike, "I'll just use your clothes." I said, handing the obnoxiously sparkly purple helmet back to him as we made our way towards the gorgeous gray bricked house.
He laughed, putting both helmets under either side of his arms, "Isn't that something you're supposed to ask me?" He questioned, his gaze playful as he scrunched his eyebrows in a confused motion.
I rolled my eyes as I opened the door, not bothering to knock as we've known each other for years and he's right behind me anyway, "You didn't say no did you?" He let out a short breath of a laugh as he dropped the helmets on the small table by the entrance before closing and locking the door.
"You'd use them even if I said no."
"Wow, I guess you really are smart." I snickered, flinching when I felt a flick on my earlobe. "Ow! Ricky, you jackass." I complained, turning to him with a glare as I rubbed my stinging ear.
He laughed again, ignoring my gaze as he walked by me into the kitchen, "You hungry?" He questioned, pulling down a box of whole grain bars. I internally gagged at the site, promptly declining his offer.
"Imma go take a shower." I said, pointing towards the stairs with a thumb. He hummed in reply, pulling a bar out and nearly swallowing the whole thing in one bite, ew. I quickly left the disgusting scene as he went for another bar, I made my way past multiple doors until I made it to Ricky's room. His room was pretty large with a full sized bed, a flat screen tv that was set on a long dresser table, and a small closet as well as his own restroom.
I went through the hanging shirts in his closet, picking out a thin textured dark gray shirt with the picture of a rat with a bazooka. I rolled my eyes at the shirt but it was the one that felt the most comfortable so I chose it anyway. I quickly grabbed a folded towel from off his dresser before making my way into the restroom.
I took my time showering under the water, closing my eyes as I allowed it to flow over my face and through my hair. It felt nice as the hot water worked its way over my skin, untensing every muscle it passed over. I got out of the water only after it my skin started to prune. I grabbed the towel, quickly drying off my shivering body before throwing on the stupid shirt I had chosen.
"This shirt is stupid." I said as soon as I walked out the steam filled room, already knowing Ricky was outside. He was laying on the bed scrolling through his phone, stopping only to laugh after seeing me swallowed in the terribly designed shirt.
"No one told you to wear it."
"It was the most comfortable." I whined, falling flat on the bed as I heard yet another laugh leaving his stupid mouth. "Shut up!" I grumbled into the fluffy comforter I had my face buried into.
He laughed again but quickly dialed down when I turned my head to the side with a glare, "So, why'd you want to spend the night." He questioned.
I feigned confusion as I flipped my entire body his way, "What do you mean? You know today's girls night." Since my Oma can't really go to many places, Savannah decided to have a girls night every few weeks where she'd take herself, Rhiyna, Sabrinah, and Jaide to my house where they'd spend the night and just have, well, a girls night.
Ricky gave me a knowing look, "You've been ignoring my messages since yesterday."
"My phone died?" I said, sighing when it came out as a question instead of a genuine excuse.
He rolled his eyes, also noticing my failed attempt, "And you randomly decided you wanted me to give you a ride today despite telling my mom it would be, quote on quote, "stupid" to drive you to and from school when we don't go to the same school." I looked away as he sat up in the bed, leaning his back against the headboard. If he's sitting up that means this conversation's about to get real serious.
We sat in silence for a few minutes as I stubbornly refused to look at his demanding eyes, "I met my mate." I blurted out when the air got so tense it felt like I was actually choking. He hummed with an arched brow, already knowing there was more to it than that. "He tried to reject me..."
"Tried to?" He questioned, his voice was rough and I could tell even without looking that he probably had specs of silver showing in his eyes. His wolf was very protective, even more so than him and that's saying a hell of a lot considering the fact that he was the one to scold me when I snuck out freshman year and tried to climb into his window to scare him. It would've been a funny joke if I hadn't slipped and sprained my ankle.
"It's fine, his sister stopped him." I quickly rushed out, looking up so he could see I was telling the truth.
His eyes became less silver as he looked at me with an expression that showed just how much he didn't believe me. "If everything's fine, why are you here?"
"To hang out with my best friend?"
"Stefan." He growled, sighing at my answer.
"Okay okay." I sat up as I put my hands up to show I wasn't going to try and lie anymore. "He drove me to school this morning and we got into an argument." He stayed quiet, waiting for me to finish but I didn't say anything more.
He sighed as he realized I wasn't going to continue, "I'm assuming that's all you're gonna tell me?" He questioned and I nodded in reply. He opened his arms and I gave a small smile before leaning into him, he wrapped his arms around me as I nuzzled into him. I would never admit this to anyone but Ricky's my safe place, whenever anything goes wrong he's the first person I go to and I don't think having a mate is going to change that. "I'll let you get away with not telling me this time, but if he does anything again-"
"You'll be the first person I tell." I rushed, cutting him off before he could finish his scolding. He laughed as I leaned off him "Can we go eat now?" I asked, looking towards the door as I got into a kneeling position on the bed, sitting on my feet.
He sighed as he sat up, "Let's go." I hurried off the bed, following him down the stairs until we reached the kitchen "What do you want to eat?" He questioned as I took a seat at one of the two stools by the counter.
I hummed in thought, "Chicken pot pie." my mouth watered at just the thought of being able to eat the circular dish full of chicken and veggies, it's definitely a comfort food for me. Ricky shook his head with a laugh, leaning against the counter as I looked at him questionly, "What?" I questioned, genuinely confused.
"You only like my dads' pot pie." I titled my head, still confused "My dad's not here, Stefan." He replied in a 'duh' tone, answering my silent question.
I put my chin in the palm of my hands, attempting to hide the growing smirk on my face from showing, "He's about to pull up." He looked at me with a knowing glare before making his way around the counter and taking a seat next to me.
He looked at the door with a bored expression as I stayed in the same position, minutes later Christian walked through the door. Christian is Rickys' dad, he's a tall tan man with shoulder length black hair that he usually keeps slicked back or in a low ponytail, he has brown eyes, and is pretty built since he used to be a warrior in his old pack. He looks like an older version of Ricky.
Christian set his keys on the rack by the door, freezing when he saw us looking at him. He took one look at Ricky's face before bursting into a laughing fit, "He did the thing again didn't he?" He questioned through his laughs, resulting in a moody Ricky to become even more moody as he nodded his head.
I have really good hearing, like better than a normal wolf whose hearing is already abnormally good as well. Sometimes I ask Ricky for things I know he can't give me just to show off how good my hearing is by announcing his dad's soon arrival, he does not like it when I do that.
I turned my head to christian with a wide grin, "I want chicken pot pie." I announced as my stomach started to growl in anticipation.
Christian wiped at imaginary tears as he walked towards us, ruffling my hair when he reached me "Sure thing puppy." My smile grew wider at that. While Savannah's like a sister to me christian is very much so like a dad, which is pretty confusing considering the fact that they're mated but oh well, my heart chooses the relationship and I just run with it.
Christian made his way into the kitchen after greeting his son while I turned to speak to said son, "I thought you didn't like that nickname?" Ricky questioned with a glare while I just shrugged in response, earning me anotther flick to the ear.
I flicked him off as I used my other hand to cover my ear, "My ears are sensitive, you idiot."
"Dumbass." He replied with a smirk, knowing I despised cursing in front of his dad. Not cursing in front of christian is my way of showing respect. I don't curse in front of people I look up to, hence why I have no problem cursing in front of savannah.
"Verdammte Schlampe. (Fucking bitch.)" I mumbled, watching his mouth fly open, I have no problem cursing if I know christian won't understand. Ricky and his sister's are the only ones in his family who completely understand German, mostly because they were all either kids or had just been born when they met me and my Oma.
My smile quickly fell when christian turned our way, "Alright, that's it." He looked at me with a suspicious gaze. "Both of you go to the living room, you're too distracting." I opened my mouth to argue but was silenced when he turned his head with a raised hand.
I huffed before hopping off the stool and making my way towards one of the three fluffy couches they had set up in their living room. I flopped down face first on the longest one and seconds later Ricky came over to the same one, moving my feet up so he could sit down before putting them back down onto his lap. "You're annoying." I grumbled.
"Thanks." He laughed, reaching towards the remote before turning on the tv and randomly flicking through channels, stopping at the sports channel. Some type of baseball game was on but I wasn't all that interested since sports isn't at all my thing.
I waited patiently for Christian to call us back and when the time finally came, I ran as fast as I could back towards the kitchen, stopping in the dining room. Christian had set three large circular pans of chicken pot pie at the table, one for each of us. I eagerly sat down and began digging into the delicious dish, Christians' food is the best, especially his pot pie.
Ricky and christian laughed as I moaned in delight before also sitting down and enjoying their meal in a comfortable silence. Unfortunately Christian immediately broke that silence, "So you're not avoiding us anymore?" I nearly choked on my food when he blurted that out.
"I was never avoiding you!" I answered truthfully. "So you were avoiding me?" Ricky asked with a fake pout that had me rolling my eyes, he is not helping.
"So what's going on pup?" He questioned, glancing up from his food with a concerned expression. I looked away from his gaze to Ricky, giving him my very best puppy eyes.
He sighed as he looked away from me to his dad, "Dad just drop it, he doesn't wanna talk about it." Christian looked at him with slightly squinted eyes as he did nothing but shrug in return. Eventually Christian did let it go, but I am one hundred percent sure he'll make Ricky tell him later once I leave.
Thankfully the rest of the meal went on in silence, minus the occasional conversation brought up by either Ricky or Christian. They both excused my lack of responses, understanding that I wasn't really in the mood to talk anymore and just wanted to enjoy the food.
When we were all done I helped christian bring all the dishes to the kitchen, watching as he started the dish water, "So... what're y'all gonna be doing all night?" He questioned with a glance in my direction.
Ricky grinned as he stayed staring down at his phone, "Sleeping." He replied.
Christian looked between me and Ricky with a knowing gaze, "Sleeping?" He repeated.
"We do have school tomorrow." I interjected, slightly rocking on my heels as he stared down at me with an arched brow.
"Which is why I expect you two to really be sleeping. Nothing else." He warned and I nodded my head as Ricky hummed in agreement. Once we made it upstairs and out of Christians' view I immediately made my way over to the last drawer of his large wooden dresser.
Ricky laughed as I grabbed as many snacks as I could from out the drawer, "Hurry and put on the movie." I said turning to him with two handfuls of M&M's, chips, nutter butters, and some other candies.
"What happened to sleeping?" He questioned, sitting on the bed as I threw the snacks behind him. I rolled my eyes at him as he picked up the remote, turning on the tv as I sat criss-crossed behind him.
"Shut up and find a movie." I replied, throwing a bag of barbecue lays at the back of his head, resulting in nothing but a laugh.
We're pulling an all-nighter.
