Chereads / Almost Rejected / Chapter 10 - | Don’t Care

Chapter 10 - | Don’t Care

"Are you sure neither of you want a ride back?" Eze asked, glancing between the both of us as we made our way to Ricky's parked bike. "I'm either having major deja vu, or you just asked us that." I huffed, squinted my eyes when ours came into contact.

She flinched, quickly looking away to the side, "I just wanted to make sure since riding motorcycles can be quite dangerous at night." She answered back, a small awkward smile planted on her noticeably uncomfortable face.

I glanced back as I grabbed one of the black helmets set onto the closest handle of the bike, "We're werewolves." I scoffed, looking back down at the helmet, "I'm sure we can take care of ourselves, we don't need a-" my words became muffled as a hand came up and covered my mouth.

I looked up as soon as the hand came in contact with my face, glaring at Ricky as he glanced down before moving his gaze back to Ezes' upset figure, "Sorry, you'll have to excuse him. He tends to get a little cranky when he's tired." He said glancing at my glaring expression when saying the last part.

He had been quiet since we left the park, well actually when I think about it he hadn't talked much since we stepped onto pack lands. His face remained nonchalant as he bowed to Eze with a slight smirk, "I wasn't aware you were a princess."

"Princess?" Eze repeated with a laugh.

Ricky quirked his brow at her reaction, completely ignoring me as I continued to send him the meanest glare I could muster, "I mean what else would you call someone who is the daughter of an alpha?" He questioned.

"By their name." We all turned to the side as Abeo, the guard from earlier that afternoon calmly walked out the dirt path that had led us to and from the town. He seemed angrier if that was even possible, and I'm sure no one missed the glare he sent Ricky's way. Great Ricky had only been here a couple of hours and had somehow managed to offend the head guard.

Ricky slightly tilted his head to the side, feigning confusion as his eyebrows furrowed, "But that would be disrespectful no?" He questioned with furrowed brows. "Have you not already been calling her that up until now?" Abeo questioned his stare hard as he stood behind Eze.

The air grew quiet as Ricky stared at Abeo with squinted eyes and a small grin, Abeo returned his stare with a hard and unamused glare. I looked between the two brewing men, growing more and more irritated at the fact that my mouth was still covered even now; So I did the only thing I could, I bit Ricky's hand.

"Ow!" He shouted, removing his hand and shaking it in the air as if it would cure the pain. I rolled my eyes at his exaggerated movements, "We're gonna head out." I said grabbing Ricky by his sleeve as I walked us the rest of the distance to the bike.

"Will you come tomorrow?" Eze questioned as I climbed onto the back, securely placing my hands on the sides of Ricky's waist. I looked up to ricky at the question, waiting for his answer; Even if the question wasn't directed towards him, his answer is my answer because I'm not coming anywhere near this land without him by my side.

Ricky looked back at me, quickly glancing to the side, if I didn't know any better I'd say he was glancing at Abeo but his eyes moved too quickly to tell, "...sure." He answered, dropping the visor over his eyes as Eze let out a happy cheer. I glanced back at Abeo as we sped out the circular path, his eyes never left our direction, even as they subtly glazed over as if he were linking someone they stayed glued to us. Or rather Ricky.

The ride to my cottage was silent but I wasn't complaining, all our motorcycle rides were quiet; It allows me to truly focus on everything around me and to just have time to myself to think. When we finally pulled up in front of my home I got off, handing the helmet to Ricky as he pulled his visor up.

"What's up with you?" He questioned as he placed the helmet on the handle of the bike before turning it off and placing the little stand out. "What are you talking about?" I watched as he swung his leg over the bike so he was facing me yet still sitting on it.

"You snapped at Eze when we were leaving." I rolled my eyes, wrapping my arms around myself as a chilly breeze swept by us. "We're strangers." I answered. Watching as he took his jacket off.

His eyes squinted as he stared down at me and that's when I realized what I had said, I had completely forgotten that I had told him we were friends. I watched cautiously as he placed his jacket over my shoulders, "And since when have you ever been that rude to someone you didn't know?" He questioned further.

"Since when have you cared this much about someone you didn't know?" I questioned back, causing him to go quiet before letting out a sigh "You shouldn't take out your anger on an innocent bystander." I clenched my fist as he scolded me. What right does he have to say that? I'm sure if he knew who she was he wouldn't be acting so nice to her, he'd be just as cold to her if not more.

"Thanks for the ride Ricardo." I grumbled through clenched teeth, keeping my gaze to the ground. Why am I in trouble? What did I do that was so wrong? Am I not allowed to be upset? Do I have to play nice with everyone? Even his family..? That's not fair though.

"You're becoming a very bitter puppy." I sniffed as he used his thumb to wipe at the small bit of tears I refused to allow fall down my face. "You should reject him soon. Don't let someone as filthy as him ruin who you are." I scrunched my brows together, frowning as I nodded my head at the ground.

"I'm your friend Stefan, my main priority is making sure you, Oma, and my family are safe at all times. Both mentally and physically, nothing else matters." I let out a small watery laugh "Not even your mate?" I joked trying to lighten the dim mood. He flinched at the mention of his mate, seemingly staring out into space before a small smile appeared on his face, "Yeah, not even my mate."

I sniffed as he continued to stare down at me with the same smile. It was warm and playful, it was a Ricky smile but a part of me thought I saw a hint of sadness hidden behind all that warmth.

Ricky stayed leaning against his bike until I opened the door, I watched him put back on his helmet before waving goodbye to his fading motorcycle. I let out a sigh as I entered the cold cottage, "Stefan? Bist du das, Schatz? (Stefan? Is that you dear?)" I sniffed rubbing at my wet eyes as a small smile spread across my face.

"Hey Oma (Hey grandma.)" I greeted, walking into her warm room. Her room was the only one in the entire cottage that had a heater but I was alright with that, my Oma is the most important person in my life and kinda like how Ricky said his family and us are his main priority, she is mine.

"Was ist los, Schatz? (What's wrong dear?)" she questioned as I sniffed again. I rapidly blinked as tears started to well in my eyes, roughly wiping at them to stop them from escaping, "Ich glaube, ich bekomme eine Erkältung... kann ich heute Abend mit dir schlafen? (I think I'm getting a cold... can I sleep with you tonight?)" I questioned, biting my lip as my voice trembled.

She let out a short breath of a laugh, patting next to her as she sent me a warm smile, the kind that forces you to close your eyes a little bit. I quickly made my way to the other side of the bed, not bothering to change into any pajamas as I snuggle into her side "Ich kann nicht glauben, dass du dich selbst in deinem Alter immer noch an mein altes Selbst kuscheln willst, wenn du dich nicht gut fühlst. (I can't believe that even at your age you still want to snuggle up to my old self when you don't feel well.)"

I let out a small laugh as I sniffed again, "Ich bin noch ein Kind. (I'm still a child.)" I answered back causing her to laugh "Vertrau mir, ich weiß. (Trust me, I know.)" she replied, continuing to laugh as I grumbled under my breath. "Um ehrlich zu sein, Oma, ich glaube nicht, dass ich dich jemals nicht brauchen werde. (To be honest Oma, I don't think I'll ever not need you.)" I mumbled tiredly.

She hummed as she stroked her fingers through my hair, "Tut es weh? (Does it hurt?)" she questioned. I froze as the question left her mouth, giving a watery smile as I buried my face deeper into her side, "Ja, es tut weh. (Yeah, it hurts.)"

I closed my eyes, allowing the tears to fall as I listened to the soft hums of my Oma. I woke up early the next day, deciding that since I was awake I should at least clean the place up a little.

I had just finished cleaning the living room (more like my bedroom) when Savannah started knocking at the door. "How's my favorite brother doing?" She questioned, crushing me in a tight hug as I tried my best to escape it. "We're not siblings." I grumbled as she finally let me go. "Might as well be with how you test me." She waved me off, walking past me and into my Oma's room.

"Oh yeah there's some guy waiting outside for you by the way!" Savannah called from the back "What?!" I questioned causing her to peek her head around the wall with a puzzled look, "There's some guy waiting outside-" I cut her off before she could finish repeating herself "I heard you, I mean do you know who is it?"

"Nope." She said, moving her head from around the corner. I groaned as I peeked on the small hole in our door, crossing my fingers as I hoped the guy she was referring to wasn't Ade. Thankfully it wasn't, it was Zane.

I blew out a sigh of relief as I hurried to the boxes I now had neatly sat on top of each other in the corner of the living room instead of scattered across the already small room. I quickly looked through the tons of old clothes I had neatly folded inside, searching for a shirt presentable enough to wear in public.

After minutes of searching I finally decided on a black collared shirt with regular blue jean pants and a random pair of worn out black shoes; At least I'm matching, which is at least more than a majority of people who actually have money can say.

I grabbed my bag as I rushed out the house, sending a goodbye to both Savannah and my Oma as I left. I was greeted with a smile as soon as I entered the car and I returned it with one of my own, "Are you my designated driver now?" I joked with a teasing grin.

"I can if you want me to be." He answered back with a grin matching my own "Aren't you the beta?" I questioned with a laugh. "Fulfilling my alpha and Lunas' wishes are what I'm supposed to do." I rolled my eyes at his answer "That reminds me, don't call me Luna."

"But-" he started before I promptly cut him off "Please, just call me Stefan." I let out a quiet laugh as he pouted toward the road before nodding his head with a sigh. "So I heard from a little birdy that you're coming back again." He inquired, turning on the car as he glanced back with a subtly grin.

I shrugged as I looked out the window, "Yeah, my friend wanted to come again." I answered simply. He hummed as he began driving farther away from the cottage and towards hell (aka school) "Ricky?" He questioned.

"The one and only." I answered sarcastically. He chuckled as he glanced back at me in the rearview mirror, "What a harsh way to tell me you don't consider us friends."

"Well we did kinda just meet you..." I trailed off as I turned my attention back to the blurring trees, grinning when he not-so-subtly scoffed at my answer. "Maybe if you continue picking me up I'll consider being your friend." I glanced at him as we made eye contact through the rear view mirror "Promise?" He questioned with a playful grin. "You do know I said that I'd consider being your friend?"

He let out a quiet chuckle as we pulled into the schools parking lot, "I know." He replied, putting the car in park beforefully turning towards me, "Promise you'll consider being my friend." I squinted my eyes at his hand as he held out his pinky finger "C'monnn" he pleaded.

I rolled my eyes before linking our pinkies, "Alright whatever, I promise." He scoffed at my half assed promise but thankfully didn't make me redo it; Wouldn't have looked forward to saying that again.

"Bye Bärchen!" He shouted as I made my way towards the school, throwing up a peace sign in silent reply as he drove off. I pulled my phone out sending a message to Ricky about picking me up after school; Zane's cool and all but nothing beats riding on the back of a motorcycle.

"Stefan!" I glanced up as someone called my name, that someone was unsurprisingly Eze. I looked back down, finishing my message and sending it before looking back up at her. She was standing in front of a bunch of lockers with one open, there were two girls behind her. I think they're her friends because they seemed confused on how we both knew eachother.

I gave a small smile as one of the girls came closer to Eze, getting on her tippy toes as Eze bent down so the girl could reach her ear, "Is this the super hot guy you were telling us you met recently?" She whispered. I quirked my brow up at Eze, chuckling when her face turned red and she elbowed the girl next her; It wasn't her fault I had heard, she was actually really quiet when she whispered. It's just, like I said before, my hearing is better than most.

I kept looking questioningly at Eze as she looked away, "No! He isn't..." she shouted, mumbling the last part out of embarrassment for shouting the first one. Her friends giggled as they looked from her red face to me, "Well imma go." I said, turning on my heel as I headed in the opposite direction.

"Hey Stefan! Wait!" She shouted chasing after me, catching up moments later. I glanced up at her as she walked beside me "Why are you following me?" I questioned, furrowing my brows at her uneasy figure "You know I was telling the truth right? You're not who I was talking about." I chuckled as she rambled off her unnecessary explanation.

"Eze I'm going to be as blunt as possible." I said, stopping my steps, she walked a little further not expecting me to stop and turned to face me. "I could care less who you like or what you say about people or even me and I don't care what your friends say." She was hesitant to say anything so I continued "Relax, I know you weren't talking about me." I revealed, letting out a breath of a laugh when she let out a relief filled sigh.

I wanted to add that she better not be talking about who I think she is but then decided not to, It doesn't really matter, does it? I turned around again, heading in the opposite direction, where my classes are actually located. He's a big boy, he can handle his own problems.

I winced as my shoulder bumped into something, turning when I heard someone curse. The guy in front of me rubbed his shoulder as he stared down at me menacingly, "Is there anything you wanna say?" He questioned, standing up straight to obviously seem more intimidating.

A small crowd was forming at our "commotion", "You have really hard shoulders." I replied, his mouth slightly opened in shock but he quickly recovered as he sent me a glare. Oops, I guess he wanted an apology? I shrugged my shoulders with a hum as I turned and walked away, oh well.

I could hear him calling for me to come back but I just ignored him, why would I listen to someone who doesn't even know my name? If I answer to those curses it'll be like silently admitting that they're what I am, so I'm good.

Second day of school and I've already run into some dumb blonde pretty boy, what am I the main character in some book?
