Poison.
Holly's hands were shaking. She just held a glass of poison that could make her tormented half to death. If Felix was a little late, maybe she would have a seizure by now.
"Bring the girl alive and don't attract attention," Felix ordered his knights to go after the woman who brought him the tea.
Felix knew Holly must be really scared right now. He gave Holly a piece of cake, intending to calm her down. But Holly was too shocked to eat.
Holly looked at Felix worriedly. He had drunk the poison until there was no more left.
"Your Majesty, are you all right?"
Felix nodded innocently. He was still sitting up straight and had not fainted from the poison. However, that only made Holly even more worried.
"I'm used to the poison. I'm resistant," Felix replied, devouring his cake again. He was too calm for a person who was almost killed.
Felix's answer made Holly tear up. He used to it. How many times did Felix get chased by killers until he got used to this thing? A normal person would definitely tremble with fear when he knew someone wanted to kill him, but Felix only considered this incident as part of his daily life.
"When I was a kid, I used to drink this poison a lot, so my body has adapted well," Felix said, widening Holly's eyes.
"You drank poison as a child?"
"I have to make myself immune to poison, so I won't be easily killed. It was hard at the beginning, but after getting used to it, I'm fine."
Holly couldn't eat the cake anymore. Her appetite was lost at the thought of a small child being forced to drink poison to survive. For the past five years, Holly thought that she had lived on the streets as the most miserable person in the world. But the man in front of her had gone through many things. Holly wouldn't be strong enough to endure if she was Felix.
Holly's eyes filled with tears. Felix, who was about to devour his cake, ended speechless with his mouth agape. He was more shocked to see Holly crying than to meet the killer.
"Are you okay? What happened?"
Holly shook her head while sobbing. There was no way she could tell Felix if she cried because of him. Felix got up from his chair and rushed to stand beside Holly.
Felix bent down beside her and made their height almost equal whether he was aware of what he was doing. He hugged Holly, causing her face to sink into his chest.
"It's okay. I will protect you." Felix thought Holly was crying because she was afraid of the attempted murder earlier.
[Stupid!] Holly cursed in her mind but hugged Felix back tightly.
She didn't know if this was because of the pheromones that Felix was talking about, she felt safe in his arms. His hug was very comfortable.
"You must be shocked. It's okay, I understand." Felix gave her comfort words.
Holly let go of Felix's arms and wiped her tears. She looked him in the eyes. But her eyes suddenly widened when she saw blood come out from the corner of Felix's lips.
"Bloods!" Holly panicked. Good grief! Felix vomited blood. He was definitely not okay!
Felix wiped his blood as if nothing had happened. "This is only a mild side effect. Don't worry." Felix can still smile.
Holly wanted Felix to smile more often, but not at times like this. Holly held Felix's cheek, and his skin was so cold. A wolf should be warm-blooded, not cold like this.
But on the other side, Felix was fine. Side effects like this were not a problem for him. He could still fight ten lions with this body.
"We have to find a place to rest!"
Holly rushed to grab Felix's hand. She was afraid if Felix might suddenly faint here, Holly wouldn't be able to pick him up. Meanwhile, Felix resigned himself to being pulled over because he didn't know where Holly would take him.
Holly's feet knew this place by themselves. She stopped at an inn not far from the main street. Holly covered her face and pulled Felix inside.
"I need a room," said Holly.
She reached under Felix's shirt, making him tickled. There was still a piece of gold under Felix's robe, and Holly gave it to the innkeeper. With the gold, they were ushered into the most luxurious room. Gold always solved everything.
"You have to lay yourself down here!"
Felix obeyed like a puppy.
"Why are we here?" Felix asked as he lay on the bed.
Felix still didn't understand why Holly suddenly took him to the inn. He felt Holly's hands shaking while she held him.
Holly covered Felix's body with the blanket. She sat on the side of the bed, her eyes welling with tears in fear that something terrible might happen to this King.
"You can heal yourself, can't you? You'll be fine after a rest," Holly said, actually reassuring herself.
Felix gasped. Holly thought he was sick from the poison earlier? Even though Felix had said he was okay? Compared to all the poison he had consumed since childhood, the poison earlier was nothing. But Felix didn't protest. He quite enjoyed Holly's attention to him.
"Aarrghh..." Felix groaned softly, pretending to be in pain. He just wanted to see Holly's reaction.
Well, of course, Holly was getting more and more panicked. "Is it getting hurt? Should I call the physician?"
Felix hides his smile. He liked it.
"Just stay here," Felix said hoarsely. He really lived his role as a sick person. Being watched like this made him feel happy. Holly was the first person to cry when she saw him drink poison.
Holly held Felix's hand very tightly. "You can't drink poison from now on. I'll protect you." Holly's voice was firm and undisputed.
Felix froze, and his heartbeat was very fast. This weak and tiny human said she would protect him. Felix might laugh at it, but he saw the sincerity in her eyes and couldn't take it as a joke.
Felix doesn't like being seen as weak. However, this time he will let it. The tingling feeling in his chest made Felix want to pull Holly into his arms and kiss her all night long.
Felix shook his head. [What did I think!]
"Please get me a drink." Felix purposely told Holly to get him a drink so that woman would stay away from him.
Being around Holly for too long could drive him crazy.
Holly complied. She took a glass of water from the table. Holly was hastite at first, then she tasted the water first, afraid it might be poisoned again. After making sure it was safe, she gave it to Felix.
"Is that woman working with the man we met earlier?" asked Holly curiously.
Felix couldn't hide his smile any longer. He knew this side of Holly. She was always curious about something. She's pretty smart for a human. This side of her can help Holly not to be easily fooled by others.
[As expected from My Queen.] Felix couldn't help but be proud of her.
"No. She smelled like a human. She must have just been told to do it. And there's no way that guy told her to. There was not enough time for him to make the plan."
Holly nodded, holding her chin. "It means that the perpetrators know our plan to come to this village and prepare everything."
Felix smiled wider. She was more intelligent than he thought.
"But why? He doesn't know you're immortal? Or..." Holly bit her lip. She thought of a scenario.
"Or what?" Felix purposely lured Holly to find out how far Holly could guess.
"Or that person just wanted to test whether this curse is still in you or not."
Felix stroked Holly's hair for her correct guess. Holly said exactly what Felix thought.
"Do you know who that person is? Is that Cass's father?" Holly asked again to hide her nervousness from Felix's actions.
"I don't think so. Astragus should have known that I was resistant to that poison. He would definitely give me a stronger poison. But after all, there was no way he did that because Astragus knew he couldn't kill me."
Holly snapped her fingers. Felix was right, whoever this person was definitely not from the Dark Forest.
"Do you have someone in your mind?"
Felix was silent. His face was serious again with a tired sigh.
"Yes."
Holly waited for Felix's answer with great anticipation. "And who is that?"
"Your human King."
