Fiona’s emotions were in a whirlwind. First, she found out that the man she loved, Cade, could die because of how she felt, and the one she didn’t love wouldn’t drop his claim to marriage.
“I already told you, I’m not going to marry you!” Fiona shouted furiously at Jackson. “I don’t even understand why this is still a thing, to be honest. Why can’t you just get a hint and move on?”
Jackson clenched his teeth together, the muscles in his jaw flexing. “Fiona, it’s not about us. This is about your father and continuing his legacy. This is about the continuation of the pack through two capable leaders. All you have to do is accept your duty and stop running away from your responsibilities.”
“Screw my responsibilities!” Fiona said, backing towards the door.
She felt like her heart was going to explode, but perhaps not before her face caught fire from the anger she was feeling. They’d been arguing for the last ten minutes and hadn’t got anywhere.
