Chapter 9 - Savage World (4)

"Are you really sure about this?" Lin Hao asked Richie, who nonchalantly waved off the corpse post.

"Oh come on guys. This is a faaaaaaantasy world! People are gonna die all the time! Didn't you say there's alot of cultists here anyway?" Richie poked the question at Lin Hao.

"Yeah, but it's leading us to them clearly. Have you killed people before?" It was an honest question, the trio had managed to kill that strange bear from before.

But none of them had ever killed a human being.

None of them had ever thought about that until now, but it was a possibility that could come soon.

This world was unforgiving, and the people in it were probably just as unforgiving themselves. In the absence of perceived danger, humans would invent danger onto themselves. Richie only waved off Lin Hao's question.

"...In Video games yeah. This isn't any different from one anyway." The question clearly effected him, his voice not sounding as upbeat as before.

He shrugged his shoulders awkwardly. "Well do you have a better idea? If it leads us to them, maybe we can save whoever they captured right? And then they'll give us directions."

The party couldn't keep traveling for long, none of them knew any survival skills whatsoever.

How to hunt, prepare shelter or do anything in the wilderness. Lin Hao folded his arms, "Do you really think we can fight them? We don't know what they can do!"

"Well, that's why we see first where my path is leading us. I have a good idea, if it's the cultist's place. Why don't we ambush them! We can just hide ourselves with a bunch of leaves and dirt!" Fu Mei recoiled in disgust.

"Oh no. Oh no no no. You cannot make me cover myself in dirt! Just. I can't just hide behind a tree or something?"

Richie squeaked at his next sentence meekly, "Well you can but that ruins the whole purpose of the.."

Lin Hao thought about the viability of Richards plan as the two began to argue, they could only get stronger by fighting.

But could they fight people? Lin Hao always wanted to fight bad guys, but could never in the real world.

Everyone always got away with things, because of their connections or status. There was too much to think about and too much at risk, but a decision needed to be made quickly.

"Alright Richie, let's go." Lin Hao said with forced confidence. They had to see what was up before anything else could be planned out.

"I knew you'd come along! Let's just keep going. We're not that far anyway."

As the party walked forward through the forest, following Richie's skill they ended up in front of a rather stereotypical walled settlement.

The front of which was dyed in the blood of various people, or perhaps creatures. Lin Hao was unable to tell which. Entrails were dipped all over the front of the gated entrance.

"Man their really trying too hard. Must be overcompensating for something." Richie said, as Lin Hao decided to go from here.

"We shouldn't try to get in there." Such a large place probably had alot of people in it, and they would easily be out numbered and taken out.

"Well....I think my idea is good. We just wait for someone to come out and ambush them. We don't have to kill them either you know."

Everything was happening too fast for Lin Hao to want to handle. "Alright, We'll go with that." Richie seemed to have some knowledge on how to ambush people, making him even more suspicious and weird.

"Now, we just conceal ourselves amongst all the trees like this."

Richie spent a while with the party helping them to blend in, in the end Richie dirtied himself and hid in a large patch of grass.

While Lin Hao and Fu Mei both simply concealed themselves behind the nearby trees. Richie had selected the road leading to the "Cultists" Fortress as the main ambush spot.

They would likely catch one of them returning, or one of them leaving.

It was a matter of laying in wait. Lin Hao didn't want to resort to this, but they were in a pickle as it was. It was already getting close to evening. Once the sun truly set, night would be hell on earth for them.

Nobody seemed to come on the route, making the party impatient. That was, until they heard multiple loud footsteps.
