Chapter 24 - The Academy Teachers

"I would first like to congratulate you all for passing the first test and I hope that you all continue to perform to the standards of the academy…. You will now be guided by a different teacher to your next exam room. I look forward to seeing all your results." Morgana the head teacher then went off the stage with a smile and walked through a large door that was at the front of the hall.

Once Morgana exited a flash of light enveloped the hall. Druak and all the applicants' vision went blurry. After a few seconds, Druak vision started to come back, noticing that the light affected the information of which teacher to go to he decided to check the image and saw that it was an image of a completely different teacher. This image was one that he recognised as someone that was previously on the stage.

This was the same teacher that Druak saw as the weakest teacher and the first thought that came to his mind was.'I don't even know how he became a teacher with how insignificant his power seems.' This was all Druak could think about as he slowly approached his new examiner.

As his group walked toward their instructor Druak noticed that some of his fellow teammates seemed to be annoyed, especially Oscar.

Druak cautiously walked up to Oscar and said."Why do you look so annoyed, did something happen that I missed."

Oscar looked at Druak in confusion then said."You don't know who our new examiner is do you."

From the way Oscar said those words Druak began to feel a sense of concern. Druak continued his questioning, this time speaking in a much lower voice."What's so bad about this teacher, is he very strict or something."

Oscar looked around, making sure no one was too close. After doing so he proceeded to approach Druak and whisper in his ear."People think he's a necromancer and that he takes students to do experiments on them."

Druak's face scrunched up in anger as soon as he heard those words, however, he quickly hid this from anyone's view realising he needed to keep his calm and not disclose anything about himself. He continued to ask more questions and after calming down he was able to analyse all the information properly and came to the conclusion that this story was probably a lie.

Oscar had told Druak that most of the rumours came about from some of the noble children who got expelled and from what Druak could tell most of them were expelled because of this particular teacher. From what Druak could tell the parents of the children had tried to get this teacher removed from the academy but failed to do so, this led to students making claims about him being a necromancer, in hopes of getting him removed.

'I feel bad for him but I can't understand why he's still here, especially when he seems so much weaker than the other teachers. There's much more to this place than I originally thought. For now, I need to focus on the exam, even if I want to know more about this teacher.'

Druak now had another task that he hoped to complete, finding out who this teacher really was. The more Druak learned about this place the more he wanted to explore it and find all of its secrets, but first, he needed to get accepted into the academy and get strong enough to fight against that thing that possessed him. Just thinking about it made his nail dig into his hand.

Astra seemed to notice this discomfort and flew in front of Druak, getting his attention. She managed to change the topic. Druak assumed it was due to her being interested in the teacher in front of him.

Once in front of him, Astra began to speak. "That human is very interesting. He seems to be learning some kind of profound class. I'm shocked that even humans are capable of such a feat."

"What do you mean profound class… Why's he feel so weak then, also what did you just say about humans." Druak responded, slightly annoyed. However after a few seconds, he calmed down as he understood that for some reason Astra thought very little of humans, he hoped some day he could prove her wrong.

As Druak spoke he began to smell a horrible smell of death entering his nose that took his attention away from the topic. As Druak looked towards where the smell came from he realised why the teacher was always called a necromancer instead of anything else, the smell was coming from him. It was as if the teacher was surrounded by death as a green miasma escaped his body.

"What is that smell, it's horrible." Most of Druak's group started covering their noses and talking amongst themselves about the terrible smell the teacher was giving off.

The teacher quickly stepped away from the applicants, realising what had happened. Stumbling over his words the teacher said. "My apologies, I've had this problem for quite some time, I hope all of you are alright."

As the teacher spoke, Druak noticed something, the teacher's arm was covered in green veins that seemed to cover most of his arm. As Druak was observing this the teacher noticed and quickly covered his arm, trying to hide whatever was there.

Druak was suspicious of the teacher but due to never learning much about him in his previous life and having a lack of knowledge about the green veins on his arm, Druak didn't want to make any sudden judgement. Druak observed the teacher and as he did so a bright light surrounded the teacher's body, it seemed as though the teacher was doing something but Druak couldn't make out what it was.

The teacher seemed to use some kind of technique that transferred his mana outside of his body, as he did so there was also a green cloud that surrounded the mana. It seemed to be eating away at the teacher's mana, but as it did so the teacher quickly dispelled it, removing most of the green cloud. He then poured the mana back into his body and after a short while the smell dissipated and the teacher's complexion also became more vibrant.

The teacher had long grey hair and a beard, he also looked to be quite old due to the wrinkles that surrounded his face. This was quite unusual as most mages would appear rather young thanks to the de-ageing process after going up stages. Most people that went beyond the 3rd stage often died due to conflict rather than old age so this was a rare sight.

"Well then, let's get to your test. I'm sure all of you are excited to get started." It seemed as though the teacher was a much more joyful person than his appearance originally suggested.

While walking toward the next testing area the teacher began to explain what we would be doing.

In a very chipper voice he began to speak."First of all I should probably introduce myself. I am a Senior teacher known by Ronald Heart and it is my pleasure to assist you all for your second test. For this test it will be more about your control of magic… Each of you will be placed in separate rooms and you will be given a magical tool. All you have to do is follow what I will demonstrate to you. I'm sure all of you will do excellent and I look forward to seeing all your results."
