He would make her pay when next they meet. But pay for what? The window? He shook his head as he returned to the bed hypnotizing himself with the lies that the broken window would not hinder his rest.
He had a really cold night even with the fur blanket around his body and he woke up sniffing hard to breathe as his nose felt blocked.
The knight came to his room as usual and sighed in relief when he did not see a bloody mess to clean. Later, he had been made to do more of cleaning up than protection, which affected his ego as a knight. He was not the cleaning lady for goodness' sake.
Liam rubbed his nose. "I need some pills or something to treat this I don't feel comfortable at all," he immediately said before the knight could greet him.
"Treat what?" the knight asked as he had already expected doctors' needs in the prince's room and had one waiting in the hallway.
"I think I caught a cold," Liam replied pointing at the broken window.
"Oh . . ." the knight said nodding his head. "I will get you a doctor immediately."
The knight only left for less than a minute and the door opened. A doctor walked in with the knight.
"The prince is ill, you should take care of him well," the knight left that message.
Liam glanced at the door with a puzzled look and faced the middle-aged doctor with a smile. The man was bold enough to return his smile. "It is simple cold, I just need a pill or two to get rid of it," he told the man.
"I have something here," the doctor said before pulling out a small black bottle from his leather black bag. "It is a pill, it is very effective."
He nodded and took the pills from the man. "You can leave then," he told the man as he saw no need for the man to remain in the room.
"I will have to watch you take the pills," the man replied seriously.
"Uh?" Liam asked. He frowned as he found the man's bravery first among all the doctors he had seen in this world. He opened the bottle and turned the connect into his palm. A black pill lay in his palm.
He swallowed was this thing edible. It looked like a round piece of charcoal.
"It is good for cold your highness. It was made by very powerful healers," the doctor encouraged him.
Healers? He paused and looked at the man puzzled. "You mean witches or wizards?"
"Yes, your highness."
He dropped the pills on the bed and got up. "If you are here to kill me then I must inform you that your mission failed. You should get out before I lose my temper," Liam warned the man.
Did they expect him to eat some crazy black pill that could have been made from the burnt hair of a baby? He would rather die of cold which he believed was not possible than eat that.
"I . . . your highness . . . this pill is very effective and it is well known all over the capital and even in the palace," the man tried to persuade him.
He was not pleased to see those old doctors tremble in his presence as it slowed down their work but the confidence of this man was just as annoying.
"Get out," he ordered between clenched teeth as he was struggling hard to suppress the urge he felt to drag the man out.
The man bowed and walked out of the room after picking up the pill he dropped and returning it to the bottle. Liam waited for the knight to return.
"Why did you bring a wizard doctor to treat me? Did I tell you I need some African native doctor?" he said angrily as he ran his fingers through the hair, which he found to be too long but he was yet to have the time to take care of.
"He is the doctor the chief of this town told me about," the knight replied earning an angry groan from Liam. "Should I get you some other doctor?" he asked puzzled as he could not understand what Liam wanted.
"No, don't bother," Liam replied with a wave of his hand. He would not touch anything of that sort again in his life. "A hot bath should work magic and hot breakfast should have some warming effect."
The knight nodded and escaped.
The journey continued and it began getting dark but they had not gotten to another town. He turned to the knight and asked, "I see no inn insight."
The knight nodded and looked around. "We won't find one around. We will set up tent here for the night," the knight replied Liam.
"What did you just say?" Liam asked in disbelief and anger.
He was not against camping and he could camp in the past but not here. His life was hunted with the protective walls of houses what will happen if he was made to sleep outside?
This world was far behind in development and it was as though he traveled a few centuries ago sometimes, especially in times like this.
He was sure they won't have those tents that make your camping easier and more fun. Someone once called them the five-star tents.
"It is just for the next four nights. We are going to keep guard because this forest is known for the dangers lurking between and on the trees," the man whispered seriously.
The only thing that stopped Liam from punching the knight's gut was the distance between them because he was not in the mood of finding out more about his hidden monkey jumping ability.
"You are not serious right?" he asked the man again.
"I am very serious, your highness but after the four nights, we will be able to rest in a house," the man replied with an energetic nod.
Liam scoffed. Did he say he was going to keep guard earlier? They could not keep guard when they were within the protected walls of a house and they claim they can protect him in this dense forest that reminded him of the amazon?
He felt a strong feeling that he was not going to reach the other end of this forest alive and even if he does, he would not get there whole.
"Your highness," the knight called wearing a confused look. "You passed through this place when you left the capital, I don't think this should be new to you."
Liam paused. How did the prince survive without magic?
