Chapter 19 - Snipped off

His heart raced, nearly exploding as he listened and looked around but he could not make out any figure in the dimly lit room.

His eyes were fixed on the swords on the table. A small voice kept telling him it was nothing serious and he was only being paranoid which might have been caused by what happened to him in the past.

He jumped from his bed and snatched the swords from the table. With his hands holding unto the sword, he could exhale in relief.

The feeling of having something to defend himself made him relax visibly. He swallowed and looked around. He walked back to the bed and sat down.

He thought of hugging the swords since they seemed to make him relax so that he could sleep as he would have to continue his journey on his horse the following day and he could not miss out on his night's rest.

He tried it out but it was as fruitless. He groaned and rolled on the bed unable to understand why his body was reacting so excessively to a danger he did not see.

He felt scared and intense fear over what he had not even seen. It felt very annoying. He closed his eyes and tried to force himself to sleep.

He sat down once again on the bed and decided to tell the knight to invite the girl in. He was not sure where he was going to find his knight in the mansion but he had to do something or he would not be able to sleep at all.

With his hands holding the hilts of his swords, he walked to the door. the door flew open just as he reached for the door.

Whoever opened it had opened it with a force that pushed him. He reached for his nose after dropping his swords to the floor. The dizzy feeling of his drunkenness returned and he almost fell.

He bent forward to avoid falling to the floor. He looked down at his hands and there was no blood. "How dare you!?" he screamed as he raised his head to look at the person who had the guts to hit the prince's face with the door.

"Your highness, we are under attack," the knight announced to him hastily.

"You almost broke my nose," he accused and sniffed.

"I am sorry but we have to get out of here to a save place," his knight told him worriedly.

He could barely process what was happening when the knight caught his hand and pulled him. Liam pulled back with a puzzled look on his face.

He felt a strong urge to scream. Why was his life being hunted every day? Could he not have a simple night of sleep without seeing blood?

"We have to get out of here," the knight warned him.

"GO!" Liam shouted out pissed off. He felt his muscles quivering at the thought of it all. His heart pounded. "I will kill them all," he whispered under his breath. He looked at the opened door. "You should leave, that's a command."

The knight must have desired to save his life so much because he did not hesitate like Liam subconsciously expected him to. He simply ran out as fast as he could and Liam reached for his new swords from the floor and pulled them out.

He raised the two swords. He was not sure why he was so angry at that moment and took an attack stance before he could see a figure at the door.

He blinked his eyes as his vision tinted. He blinked again to get rid of that foreign red that dyed all he saw. He swallowed to get rid of the sudden dryness he felt in his throat.

The dark figure at the door began approaching fast. He was not sure what he was doing but faced with a swung sword just as sharp as his, he did not hesitate to take a swift step back.

With his sword held diagonally, he pulled his left leg backward and swung forward before the figure could approach him. The warmth of the liquid that stained his face and the thick smell of blood that filled his nose made him smile.

He wiped the sweat on his brow and looked at a new figure at the door. They were simply a bunch of black figures with his tinted eyesight holding swords directed at him.

He took another step back and another but he paused and listened. He could hear approaching footsteps from his back. Clang!

The window behind him was broken and he could identify the presence of three people behind without looking back as he heard their calm even breaths.

He took a deep breath to calm down. If they were there to kill him and they were so calm like they were eating dinner in a five-star restaurant, then he had every right to be calm even though it felt like his eyes were covered with a red cloth.

Two more figures appeared before him and he gave in to the strong urge he felt to smile. "Why do you all desire to kill me?" he asked so calmly he was surprised by the sound that escaped his lips.

" . . ."

He frowned, it seemed they were not in the mood of having a conversation with him, then he might as well end it as fast as they want him to.

Swish!!!

He shifted to the left and tilting his body to the left, he trusted backward. The obstructions his sword faced as he moved them sideways swiftly before pulling them out made him furrow his brow. He will have to get new swords or sharpen these.

Thud!

The smell of blood thickened. He sniffed surprisingly feeling energized by the distinctive metallic smell that filled his nose. It sent currents through his veins and his smile only broadened.

"You are dead," he announced. His hands impersonated a pair of scissors and smoothly snipped off the head of the man whose sword was buried on the left side of his abdomen.

The sword dropped to the floor just in time for the man's head to fall to the floor.

He looked at the darkened round figure on the floor before using the back of his hand to clean the layer of blood on his face but his hand only smeared the blood further as his hand was equally covered in blood.
