Chapter 8 - World is 50 shades of grey

"Y-you…" Azrael stammered in an attempt to speak out. She couldn't believe what she saw a few minutes ago.

A few minutes ago….

When August closed his eyes, preparing for his death. Azrael watched intently, preparing herself to enter the scene. And suddenly, dark fumes flashed in his hands and she was way too familiar with them.

And in a blink of an eye, the dark fumes made a screen around him and absorbed Derek's attack; weakening Derek till he was knocked out on the ground. However, unlike what she expected, once August opened his eyes, the dark energy surrounding him was gone.

Seeing his dazed look, Azrael understood that August still didn't know what kind of power he possessed. He was something the world has never seen, neither in mortal nor in the netherworld. Trying to keep herself composed, Azrael transported close to them.

Before she talks anything with August, Azrael walked closer to Derek, who was still on the ground and trembling in fear. Crouching down on her knees in front of him, she inspected him. His magic ability was gone, he was nothing more than the spirit of a child.

Azrael took out the book of torment and forwarded it to him and without a riot, Derek touched and was pulled into the book. August was lost for words seeing the child sucked by the book in front of him. August was too shocked to move or ask anymore, he was already tired from what happened. Every bit of him hurts.

Azrael sideways glanced at August, he looked haggard from what happened but it was important to know if he had dark magic, which was impossible for a mortal to conquer.

Dark magic was known as the magic of chaos and wreckage and the only beings who can have them are the grim reaper and soul eaters. Both don't have their soul but a mortal with dark magic was not a thing. Because anyone with a soul would never have the power of dark magic and someone like the bride or groom of a grim reaper can't have that power.

"You know you have chosen dark magic?" Azrael inquired, still unsure how he could have that.

"Dark magic?" August raised his brow on hearing her. He didn't know when he had chosen dark magic out of all. And was it that bad that she was acting so concerned about it? The worried expression on her face said it all.

"Yes, dark magic. Magic was only for one without a soul. But mortals can't have it and the grim reaper's groom shouldn't too. According to prophecy, you should have light." Azrael tried to explain but seeing how puzzled he was she knew it was not working. She sighed and tried again.

"There are three main realms, Netherworld, the human world and Elysian and all three have many sub realms but these three maintain the world in a balance. Elysian contains light magic and the netherworld has dark magic while the human world has both light and dark magic. Since light and dark are opposite they nullify each other, letting humans be humans." Azrael explained to him, stealing a glance over him. This time August finally understood.

"So the earth is grey and sub-realms also consist of grey matter?" August questioned rubbing his chin and thinking carefully.

To his question, Azrael nodded, "Basically yes, the earth is fully balanced while others are not. " Azrael shrugged.

"So the world is 50 shades of grey?"

"..."

Azrael didn't explain further, she turned back to leave. She can't handle him, she was trying to explain while he was making the stupidest joke. She shouldn't care about him or think to make him understand.

Just as she tried to walk away, Azrael heard a thud coming from behind and even if she didn't want to turn back, she did. Her eyes widened seeing August on the ground unconscious, with an uneven pattern of breathing.

Azrael growled seeing him on the ground, biting her lips nervously. She had no interest in helping him or anything but still, she walked up to him.

Azrael looked at his face, blood coming out of the corner of his lips. One thing she didn't mention to him was when she gave power to him, she also gave his body back. So he was already back to being human when he was fighting Derek.

A grim reaper's kiss, can steal the vitality of the living and give life to the dead. As absurd as it was, that's the only power of Azrael that doesn't cause havoc not completely but half, yes. And maybe one of the powers she doesn't despise as much as others.

In the end, she gave up, pulled him up from the ground, and transported both of them to a different place.

A man sitting at his desk was busy scribbling on some paper. The room was messy, covered with piles of books and manuscripts. Natlus stopped on his track and looked up as if he sensed something.

And out of nowhere, Azrael and August appeared out of nowhere. Nat rested his forehead over his palm sighing.

"Damn woman. Knock on the door!" Natlus groaned looking at them. But Azrael completely ignored him and put August on the couch nearby. Once she was done taking care of August she looked at her surroundings and frowned.

The place was covered with dust, cobwebs, books and mountains of paper as if the place was abandoned. From nowhere it looked like it was in living conditions, with dirty mugs and takeout packages piled up at the coffee table beside the couch.

"Is this a dump yard?" Azrael asked sideways glancing at Natlus.

In embarrassment, Natlus' face turns a deep shade of red, "No it's not!" He screamed back loud enough that Azrael put her finger on her ears.

Stomping up, Natlus kept his chin high with pride and then glanced at August. His violet eyes flickered with curiosity seeing a human in his house that was in such a bad state. If Azrael brought him, he was probably someone important to her. And what's a better chance to take revenge than this one? Natlus giggled to himself, plotting wickedness in his mind.

"Don't even think about it, if you still want your cat alive." Azrael calmly answered knowing exactly what he was thinking. She moved her hands up, blue flames already covering them.

"Azrael, don't even look at my Eve!" Nat yelled again, swallowing hard.
