Chereads / My Wife Is A Grim Reaper / Chapter 13 - Dump yard

Chapter 13 - Dump yard

"Well, he is fine just sleeping." Natlus shrugged looking at August then sighing.

He still didn't understand what kind of bad luck this poor lad had to marry a grim reaper. Did he not fear? Nat was amazed by his bravery.

Azrael just nodded her eyes in August. She can't be human anymore so why does she still keep him? He was technically useless to him.

Marrying a grim reaper was never a blessing to humankind. Once a grim reaper marries a human soul; with time, they exchange their place. The grim reaper gets their souls while they get their powers.

That's the whole reason. With time dark magic always grew stronger and if one person held onto it for too long, it was harder to keep control of it. Any magic grows with time, whether light or dark. Dark was scary, it was not a beneficial one.

Grim reapers were humans who married the previous grim reaper and exchanged power and souls. But she was different, she was born not created and out of love.

What destiny held for her was known to all. But was destiny irreplaceable? She made a deal with Schoel to have a human life like every other grim reaper. Azrael didn't care that after she became human and died and became a reaper again but she wished to enjoy it once.

"How did you get this guy though? Is he that good in bed?" Natlus squinted his eyes thinking deeply.

His remark bought Azrael back. Azrael gave him a death stare to his comment. Does his brain work the opposite way?

"No...I am just saying. You know if he is not I can give you some medicine." Nat winked with an evil plan on making in his head.

"One more word, I am sending you and your cat inside a book of Quietus forever." Azrael smiled through her teeth warning him to not mess any further.

Nat swallowed up and nodded in fear. He has no wish to be tortured by this woman. Natlus slapped his lips, cursing inwardly. Why can't he control his tongue?

In the midst of their arguing, August slowly opened his eyes. He felt his whole body was crushed while his head was pounding. Somehow, he sat up straight holding his forehead completely ignoring his surroundings.

"Ah! He is awake." Nat diverted the topic seeing August awake and he was actually successful in it.

August slowly moved his gaze up, seeing the unfamiliar face made him startled. He looked at the man standing in front of him and then his gaze shifted to the unconscious woman on the sofa beside him.

For an instant, August freaked out thinking it was Azrael but seeing the silver hairs made him realise he was wrong.

He turned around scanning the environment to see what was going on. August was never disgusted like this before. Was he in some kind of dump yard?

Slowly his head moved to his right and there she was standing, arms crossed with her infamous smile that scared him to the bone.

"Awake?" Azrael calmly asked.

August nodded, swallowing hard. She was too calm and it scared him. The last time she was that calm he ended up fighting that weird kid and died for the second time the same day.

This woman is scary. What's worse she commented during the whole fight? Isn't he her husband now? What kind of wife does that?

"Since you are. We are leaving now." Azrael commanded.

"Take care of her." Azrael glanced at Nat and pointed at Valerie with her eyes and turned to leave.

" Come now!" Azrael shouted at August once again seeing him not following her.

August sighed and got up from the couch and followed her. He was just following her and had no idea about the world around him.

Who was that guy? Who was that woman that looked so similar to Azrael? And where is this place in this world? He wanted to talk with the owner of this place, how can one be so dirty?

August didn't have a chance to talk even when Azrael created the portal and teleported them in front of an eerie mansion.

August turned around to check if the portal was still there but it was gone. He used to read this stuff in books but now that he was experiencing it, he can't help but be flabbergasted.

"Stop looking like a fool, and come in unless you have plans to spend the night outside." Azrael rolled her eyes and walked towards the door.

August was not sure whether he wished to go inside some kind of haunted house. The mansion was huge, two storeys tall and made of white marble.

The white colour faded mostly but still once could see and vines covered most of the walls giving it a more ghostly vibe.

Except for the moonlight, there was no other kind of illumination. August looked around, the place was covered by tall, shadowy trees. At that point, he even heard owls hooting.

In fear, August walked closer to Azrael waiting for her to open the door. Azrael chuckled seeing him being so cautious of the environment.

The irony in all of this was that he was trying to get protection from a reaper. The same reaper who killed him just a few hours ago.

"Stop laughing and open the door." August hissed seeing her laugh at him.

"Sure." Azrael shrugged and opened the door.

Once the door was open, August hurriedly walked in.

"Just make sure there is no soul there," Azrael remarked before he took a step inside the house.

August instantly stopped on his track. Soul… he remembered how he was beaten up by a 7-year-old soul.

Behind was an eerie forest from some kind of horror show and in front was a mansion with who knows what. Can't he just rest for today? Why is he being dragged through this torture?
