Chapter 4 - Bloody Ingrate!

In Peyton's house, Mrs.Camille was tending to her husband who seemed to have recovered from his unconsciousness. He sat on the sofa with his legs stretched out, his head leaned on the head of the sofa and his eyes were partially closed.

"I've told you not to engage in any arduous exercises but it seems you don't listen. Now, look what has happened." Mrs.Camille said in a slight scolding manner but Mr.Gordon knew that his wife was feeling worried.

"Don't worry, Camie, I'm fine. It was just some small exercise, I didn't know I would pass out from that," he said and opened his eyes fully to look at his troubled wife.

" But you did, Gord, and only God knows what would have happened if no one had come to your aid."Mrs.Camille spoke to her husband." From now onwards, if you don't listen to me and do as I say, I'll Inform the girls about your illness." she threatened lightly causing Mr.Gordon to sit up suddenly on the sofa.

"Don't Camie." he said in a serious voice."I don't want them to get overly worried about me for no reason. Please don't inform them about my illness."

"Alright, I won't, but promise me you will take care of your health and you will not endanger your life."

"I will." Mr.Gordon said in a calm tone.

Mr.Gordon was suffering from an illness that usually made him pass out when he was involved in tedious work. He had been suffering from this illness for a year now and he had not informed his daughters yet. He didn't want them to worry about him and kept it a secret from them.

Time passed by quickly and it was time for the staff in the Stark Company to close from work. They had had a tiresome day and everyone was just waiting to go to their various homes.

There was a lot of work to be done in the office and Lea decided to stay a little longer to try and finish her work. She knew she couldn't possibly finish everything but she hoped to do most at least.

As she sat behind her desk going through the files on her table, a soft knock was heard on her office door and she raised her head and caught a glimpse of her sister standing at the door. She signaled her to come in and Nicole opened the door and entered.

"It's time to go home, Sis," Nicole informed her sister who had not taken her eyes off the files she was going through and it didn't look like she was getting ready to go home.

"You would have to take the lead Nic, there's a lot of work to be done and I think I would stay longer to try and finish most of it," she stated and raised her head to look at her sister who stood before her, with her bag in her hand.

"Alright sis, but seriously I don't see the point of working yourself up so much when the boss doesn't even appreciate what you do for him and this company," Nicole spoke her mind.

She didn't quite fathom why her sister was being so diligent and committed to her work and even insisting on doing extra when their arrogant and ungrateful boss didn't seem to recognize her tiring efforts.

"That bloody ingrate!" she thought in her mind.

"Mm...don't worry Nic, it's my job and he is paying me for it right?" Lea hummed in response and Nicole rolled her eyes.

"Yeah, but you don't need to work your butt off for his sake."

Lea just stared at her sister for a short while before she parted her lips to speak,

"If you don't hurry, the company's bus will take off without you."

That was enough for Nicole to stop talking, she widened her eyes and bid her sister bye.

"Tell mom and dad, I'll be home a little late today," she spoke to Nicole as she saw her walking hastily out of her office in order not to miss the bus.

"Alright, see you at home sis," Nicole said in a loud voice as she walked out of the office.

Lea gave out a small sigh and returned to her work.

A few moments later, she saw her boss enter her office with a small suitcase in his hand and she stood up from her chair. It looked like he was also going home.

"Everyone else is gone, won't you head home?" he questioned her when he came to stand in front of her desk.

"I will Sir, I just need to finish with these files," she said and Xander nodded his head in response as if approving of her doing extra work.

"We have a meeting with the Williams at Hotel De Luna tomorrow at 7 p.m.Make sure to wear something elegant, it's a small dinner he has organized to celebrate his successful business deal with the Myers. Our presence is required there as you're already aware."

" Yes, Sir, I'll make sure to look presentable," Lea responded and flashed her boss a small smile who didn't bother to return it and he turned to leave.

"I'll see you tomorrow, Lea," he said and walked out, not waiting to hear Lea's response.

Lea who opened her mouth to respond closed her mouth when she saw that her boss had already left her office before she could say anything.

She sat back in her chair and buried herself in her work.

Hours passed and Lea was still engrossed in her work. She had not realized that time had passed and that she needed to head home since it was getting late.

" Miss Peyton"the security guard called out her name and it was then she noticed that time was far gone. she looked at her wristwatch which read 9 p.m.

She was shocked that she had been sitting there for that long. She picked up her phone and saw the number of missed calls on her phone, which were obviously from her parents and sister. She had put her phone on mute since she didn't want to be disturbed while working.

She tried to call her parents, but at the same time, her battery died down and she sighed, knowing how worried they must be at the moment.

She packed up her things very fast and headed for the door.

"Miss Peyton, I thought you left." the security guard who was standing outside her door said when she came out.

"I had not realized that time had passed so quickly," she said and got ready to leave.

"How are you going to get home." the security guard asked, concerned.

"Don't worry, Arlo, I'll take the public transport," she said and walked out of the company.
