Chereads / Caged With A Vampire / Chapter 28 - Why that memory?

Chapter 28 - Why that memory?

Darren stared at Ambrosia quietly from across the bed where he stood. He has seen a lot at the forest and for one reason, he knew Ambrosia can never be hurt but surprisingly, she was when he touched her.

That prickled his curiosity.

It's morning and she haven't woken up yet. She's been unconscious for hours and for once in her life, she looked so calm and peaceful. Like a normal person who has her daily life to worry about and not killing everyone so mercilessly.

As usual, he had a lot of questions that he knew the answer would never come, so he just locked it all in and threw the key away.

But then, putting the theories together, he couldn't help but wonder what the memory he saw was all about.

It was as if he went into her memory for some minutes even though it felt like a thousand years. Her memory was dreadful and a nightmare.

But then, why was he able to see her memory when he touched her? Could it be because he is human and she is no ordinary person? Was it even her memory at all?

Darren was looking lost and confused as he tried to understand what happened to him and her as well.

All he saw was a bloodied scene that he can't seem to get out of his mind. He was locked in her mind for some seconds. Ambrosia was covered in blood and dead bodies were on the floor. Heads were ripped off, bodies were split into two, bodies part were out, all on the floor. The sight was terrifying and brain wrecking. Over a thousand bodies were on the floor including children.

Ambrosia stood tall, her long fingers dripping with blood, her cloth stained with blood and her eyes not the normal bright red he sees all the time but dark red with golden hue. Her face was looking so cold and dark.

Darren heart bleed seeing those images and shook his head trying to forget what he saw. He looked at her and wondered why he was able to see through her memories. It felt so real that it gave him goosebumps. She was like a monster standing in the midst of the bodies. He became curious to know who the woman truly is.

He sighed and shook his head slowly, not wanting to think about any complicated issue.

Lifting his gaze up, he caught Ambrosia's gaze on him. The woman was staring at him blankly, as if he was a stranger she was seeing for the first.

A thought came to his mind about her forgetting about him, and he wished and prayed silently that she did have a memory lost, but to his disappointment, she turned her head and focused her eyes on the ceiling, bringing back her cold and deadpan face.

Darren clicked his tongue and looked down. The woman wouldn't lose her memory, she isn't ordinary like he is. What was he even thinking? Losing her memory? Lame. He thought and looked at her.

Seeing her eyes took him back to what he saw when he held her hand. The bodies, the ocean of blood, the heads, the ripped bodies, the cold and evil look on her face. All came rushing into his mind, forcing him to close his eyes tight....It wasn't going away from his head.

He opened his eyes, "Shit... Why...." he spoke in a tight voice with his teeth clenched together, but he was cut off by Ambrosia, who was still staring at the ceiling as if she was looking at her reflection in it.

"How long have I been asleep?" She asked with an emotion he couldn't tell what it was.

Hearing her voice, the memory he saw left his mind. Her voice was an antidote to those disturbing memories.

"Since noon, yesterday." He quickly replied like one been charmed and compelled to speak, forgetting his questions, anger, and her memory.

Ambrosia sat up straight and cracked her neck. She looked at her hands and disappeared from the room but Darren wasn't having it.

He sighed deeply in exasperation and looked towards the window. Ambrosia always disappears when he has something to say, which was beginning to piss him off. He stood up and for the first time, noticed her room.

He had entered the room he always see her walking out from, perceiving it's her room and brought her in. His mind was occupied that he didn't notice how her room was.

It was like a room from the nineties, with no modernized furnitures or design, except her clothes which are the trending wears but all in black or red color.

The woman is really weird but then, he needed answers to his questions.

Ambrosia appeared in an empty room, by the window, and rested her palms on the windowsill as she thought about the incident at the forest.

Darren made her fall asleep which has never happened to her. For the centuries she had lived on earth, she has never fallen asleep, as she don't sleep neither have she fallen to the ground by anyone's touch. Even in battles, she always make people fall dead not her falling to the ground. There was something about Darren she couldn't fathom out.

Just when she was thinking about him, the door was pushed opened and a sweet pleasant manly scent of amber and oak filled her nose.

For a minute, she unconsciously shut her eyes and lifted her head to take in a deep sniff of the scent. It felt so refreshing to her until his voice pushed her out of her fantasy.

"We need to talk. You need to explain all these to me." She could hear the intensity in his voice but she remained still and not turning to look at him.

"How could you just vanish after putting me into a memory that can't get out of my head? What are those visions I see and why aren't you bothered about any of it. I couldn't sleep all night because of the things I saw." he pushed on but she didn't turn to even glance at him which wasn't surprised at all.

Before speaking to her, he knew she wouldn't say a word and still went ahead to ask so he can get his thoughts and the disturbing memory from his mind. Maybe speaking about it would help him forget the memory.

He continued, "I need answers, I need to know what is going on. You can't just let me see those and still remain shut about it. I fucking saw people killed. They were many bodies on the floor and you were there cold and heartless. Did you kill those people?"

The room went silent after he asked his question. He was waiting patiently for her to speak but she wasn't helping matters.

After what seemed like forever, she finally asked, "What did you do?" That wasn't a reply to his question and that got him confused.

He arched his brows and asked, "What are you talking about?"

"What did you do?" She asked rather, with her voice raised a bit as she was losing patient, thanks to the man before her.

"I should be asking you that. You know what happened. I know you saw it all. The memory I was made to see. You know about the way it's tormenting me. Why that memory?" he demanded to know.

"Forget about what you saw. It is nothing. In few days, the memories would be wiped off."

He clicked his tongue and put his hands into his pockets. "What if I decide not to forget about it? You can't tell me what to do with what I think."

Ambrosia swirled her head to him and stared at him for a while before she finally said, "Suit yourself. Don't come bothering me about some nightmare caused by the memory."

He smirked and walked closer until he was some inches away. "Are you scared to answer me cause you feel I will make you faint again?"

Ambrosia's brows joined together and her jaw hardened. She raised her hand to strangle him as she always does but this time, he caught her hand and swirled her. She lost balanced and leaned on him so she wouldn't fall. Her hands were resting on his chest and her body joined to his.

He curled up his lips and pressed closer, "Now, shouldn't we talk about you always trying to strangle me?" His voice was low and deep.

He moved closer until he was a breath away. "Why don't we change that habit." He said and before she could say anything, his lips met hers.
