Once Alita stepped out of the room, she bumped into Axel, who was about to walk in. She spared him no glance as she hurriedly walked away from there. Her mind was a mess and she didn't know why she was even running away, but she knew she wanted to be anywhere away from Axel at that moment. The mind-numbing pain in her heart forced her to increase her pace to an almost running speed as she approached the elevator.
The events of that night replayed in her memory, forcing tears to flow freely from her eyes. Why? Why did they have to do that? She shouldn't be running... She should be confronting him, but her uncle had told her to run whenever she comes in contact with the royal family. So she ran even when her guts kept telling her to fight or at least ask why.
Axel stood frozen at the spot while he watched her walk or was it run away angrily. With confusion etched on his face, he turned from her to the door. What just happened? And why was she suddenly running away? Did someone say or do something to upset her? That thought alone converted his confusion to anger in an instant. Yanking the door open, he stepped in to find Eric looking sullenly at the shirt. Eric immediately jumped to his feet and bowed his head when he saw that Axel entered the room.
"Your Highness." He greeted.
"What did you do?" Axel roared in a terrifyingly angry tone, causing Eric to shiver in fear.
"I d-did nothing, Your Highness." He stuttered nervously. "I just panicked a little when I saw the condition of the shirt and I told her that it was last week I delivered it to you and also that you are a prince and she got angry and left."
A sharp and fierce glare was shot at him before Axel dashed out of the room. Now he was even more confused because he didn't get a concrete enough reason why she would leave the way she did. Wasn't she the one who had insisted on coming here?
When he reached the elevator, she was already gone so he disappeared from there and appeared outside the building by their car. One look at Asher's face told him that she was not inside the car.
"Where is she?" He impatiently asked and Asher pointed in the direction Alita went. A question rose in Asher's head, but he quickly swallowed it because Axel disappeared before he could ask. He just let out a sigh as he leaned against the car.
The tears poured freely from Alita's eyes as she continued walking. She should superspeed away from there and go to a place where Axel or anyone from the royal family wouldn't find her. That was the instruction she was given. But, she couldn't do it. She had been running for the past four years. Now she wants answers and justice for her family.
"Alita, wait." Axel's voice pulled her away from her thoughts and back to the present. She heard him alright but she kept moving. Anger surged within her that she had to force herself not to lunge at him. He had some nerve coming after her even after putting her in this condition.
"Alita, please... I already told you that you don't need to pay for the shirt. There's no need to be upset about it." His voice echoed again behind her, but she kept moving. Does he think she's upset because of the shirt? What is a shirt compared to the life of her family? More tears trailed down her cheek as the thought crossed her mind.
When Axel couldn't take it anymore, he reached out and grabbed her wrist. What he didn't expect was that she would attack him the next moment. However, he was faster than her this time and he grabbed her wrist before she could touch him with her deadly palm.
Gripping both her wrists firmly, he saw that the deadly palm was glowing bright red. That was, however, not what worried and shocked him. It was her face. Why was she crying? Was it because of a shirt he could afford a thousand times over and he wouldn't even feel it? His heart shook violently as her crying face broke him completely.
"Why are you crying?" Axel couldn't help but ask since he just didn't understand why she was in tears. He hated this... he hated to see her cry and he didn't know why.
"Let go of me." She yelled, trying to pull her hands away from his hold, but his grip remained unyielding. She aimed at his groin and tried to knee him. Again, he predicted the move and blocked it.
"I will. Just answer me first. Why are you crying?" He repeated, looking intently at her as if she would disappear if he even as much as blinked.
"Why did you kill them? Are you happy now? Did you achieve your aim? Where did you take my sister?" She burst all at once without breaking or giving him a chance to even register any of her questions. She began to tremble slightly from all the emotions bubbling inside of her.
Axel's brows knitted together in confusion. He didn't understand anything she just said. "What are you talking about? Kill who?" He asked, perplexed.
"My family." She screamed. "Why did you kill them? What was their crime?" She cried out in fury, looking at him with all the hate she could muster.
"What!!!" Axel exclaimed in unbelief. He couldn't believe what he was hearing. How on earth did she come to the conclusion that he killed her family? Didn't she see the people who did it? He had even saved her from the hands of the killers so where was this coming from? "Why are you suddenly accusing me of your family's murder?"
"Don't even think of denying it. Aren't you the vampire prince? Your family killed my family." She spat out.
Axel's gaze hardened and an unfathomable expression crossed his features for a moment. The next second, he let out a shaky breath and clenched his teeth.
"I don't have a family, Alita. They all died a long time ago. He said through gritted teeth and Alita froze.
