Axel was taken aback by her confession. His lips slightly parted as he raised his brows in disbelief. Not because he didn't believe her, but he met her in a club of all places, downing alcohol like a professional drinker and even luring three men out of the place. It would be hard for anyone who saw all these to believe what she just said. Never eaten at a place like this, totally believable, but never been on a date? Totally questionable. Good thing he wasn't just anyone and judging from the way she looks right now, he couldn't even doubt her.
"Are you serious?" He asked, just to be sure he heard correctly.
"Yeah, you can go ahead and mock me as much as you want now. "She answered, accusingly.
"Mock you?" Axel asked, baffled. "Why would I do that when I'm so happy to be your first? I feel honored to be the first one to give you this experience." Axel announced, proudly. The look of concern in his eyes was gone as her heart was no longer beating at an alarming rate.
Alita's eyes flew back up to look at him. The look she saw in his eyes was indescribable. But what she could say was that the way he was looking at her, made her feel like there were hundreds of butterflies flapping their colorful wings in her stomach. She had expected him to laugh at her after her confession or ask her the 'don't you know you are getting old' question, or at least ask her why. However, he did none of those things. Instead, he was looking at her like she was the best thing that had happened to him.
"Listen, Alita," Axel's voice pulled her away from her thoughts to the present. "I know we got off on the wrong foot and I want to make things right. So this is my way of apologizing to a rare beauty, who caught my eyes and subsequently captured my heart, for all the trouble I've caused her since the first time we met. So please relax and enjoy the dinner alright?"
Alita could only nod at his question as she couldn't bring herself to say anything. Her entire face had already flared up from the words that just left his lips. Of course, she knew she was beautiful, but how was she supposed to react when he put it that way?
Satisfied with her reaction, Axel smiled and climbed out of the car. He turned around and helped her out, thereafter, leading her into the restaurant. If Alita thought that the exterior of the restaurant was intimidating, then she was wrong because the interior took intimidating to another level.
Exquisitely decorated with expensive furniture, beautiful paintings, and uncommon lighting systems, the place screamed royalty, class, and elegance. Three things she knew nothing about. She looked around in awe until she realized that Axel didn't stop at any of the tables. Instead, he walked towards the stairs, eliciting a questioning gaze from her.
"My lady?" He curtsied and stretched out his hand when he got to the foot of the stairs. Alita smiled to hide the blush that was quickly making its way to her face as she placed her hand on his. He led her up the stairs, then to the VIP section.
Alita's jaw dropped when they entered the VIP section. A table for two was set in the middle, with candles and roses on it. The lights were dimmed and a soul calming music was playing in the background. A waiter approached them once they sat down and took their orders.
"Care to tell me who Mr. Silas is and what he did to you?" Axel asked lightly while they were waiting for their meal as if he didn't mind if she decided not to tell him.
"How did you know about that?" Alita asked and chewed on the inside of her cheek. She didn't even want to remember the reason for her awful day.
"Super hearing. I heard your friend talking about it." He answered, pointing to his ears. When she narrowed her eyes at him, he continued. "Don't blame me and don't give me that look. You should have seen your face when I came to your house. You look like you were going to start crying any minute and I was worried."
Alita let out a sigh. What's the use of keeping it from him anyway? The least she could do was tell him. Also maybe talking about it could help her get it off her chest so she narrated everything that has happened with her supervisor to him.
"I see." He nodded his head.
Their meal arrived and they ate in silence. But Alita's taste buds were screaming for joy as the food tasted exceptionally good. Yes, she expected nothing less from a place like this, but the fact that her expectations had been surpassed shocked her in a good way.
The silent joy radiating from her pulled Axel's attention to her. She seemed to have relaxed to a great extent to his utter satisfaction. But it was the look on her face at that moment that kept him transfixed. He couldn't tear his gaze away from her face.
Alita suddenly stopped eating when she felt his gaze on her. When she lifted her eyes, he didn't look away, rather, he looked into her eyes and she immediately became self-conscious.
"I'm sorry." She apologized, causing Axel to snap out of his hypnotized state. He wore a confused expression instantly and tilted his head to the side in question.
"What are you apologizing for?" He asked.
"I don't know... You were looking at me so..." She trailed off, not knowing how to complete what she wanted to say.
"You shouldn't apologize for enjoying yourself, Alita." Axel's magnetic and extremely alluring voice echoed after he let out a sigh.
"The food is really good." She complimented, smiling.
"I'm glad you like it." He said and returned his gaze to his food to avoid making her uncomfortable by gawking at her again.
