Chapter 18 - Already Missing Me?

"I'll be returning to Havilla tomorrow and I'll need a little more information from you which will help me locate your sister and find the people responsible for the atrocities committed against your family." Axel voiced when they finished eating. A glass of wine was in his hand, the liquid content dancing around merrily as he continuously twirled it.

"Okay. What do you need to know?" Alita asked after she downed her first glass of wine.

"First, why do you think my family is responsible for what happened?" Axel had been wondering about this since last night. It couldn't be a guess because he knew the king had sent those men, but the reason behind it was still unknown to him. Now that he knew she was no ordinary human, he could guess that the king already knew about her and wanted to eliminate her back then.

"When I asked my uncle what my family did to deserve such cruelty, he said it has something to do with the vampire royals. He warned me to run as fast as my legs can take me if I ever come in contact with anyone from the royal family." She explained, leaving Axel more confused. How did they get mixed up with the vampire royals? Those power-hungry and power-abusing bastards. Did it have something to do with how they got the venom? The questions were piling up, but there was no answer in sight.

"Did he say anything more? Like what the royal family wanted, or what your family did, or anything more?" He sought more information, but she shook her head.

"No. That was all he said."

"That's okay. Your sister's name is Alexa, right?" He enquired.

"Yes." She nodded.

"I noticed that you have a remarkable tolerance for wine." He commented after a moment of silence.

"That's true. I don't think I have ever gotten drunk. It doesn't matter what I drink." She replied, bashfully, but he just smiled.

"It's hard to believe you're human and not a vampire. I still strongly believe you're not just human. There's something else about you that neither of us knows yet. I know someone who can tell what you are and I can take you there, but only if you are interested in knowing what you are." He offered.

"I'll think about it." Came her reply before she asked, "When will you return from Havilla?"

A wicked smirk crept up his lips when he heard her question. "Already missing me?" Came his teaseful question.

Alita lowered her eyes to avoid looking at him. Why does he have to tease her now? Her face will permanently become red at this rate if he continued doing that.

"Can I have your phone?" She heard him ask and she gave him her phone.

"There. You can call me whenever you miss me too much." His voice echoed after he typed in his number on her phone. When he returned the phone to her, he chuckled at the look on her face and spoke again.

"Don't worry as soon as I finished what I have to do there, I'll come back here."

Axel drove her back to her house when they left the restaurant. He couldn't express how happy he was that she was not all jittery and looking at him like her enemy.

"Thanks for the dinner." She voiced when they arrived at her house and stood right in front of her door.

"I hope we can do this again," Axel asked and Alita beamed. She was about to nod her head when his lips landed on her cheek, freezing her instantly. Her eyes stretched wide in shock and her face flared up.

"Take care of yourself, Alita." He stepped back and disappeared the next moment.

Her hand flew to her cheek when she realized he had left and her heart fluttered. What the hell was that? She screamed inside her head. It was just a kiss on the cheek so why was she feeling like it was so much more than that? Slowly but surely, a wide sheepish smile plastered on her face as she walked into her apartment.

Inside the car, Axel picked up his phone and typed a message. After he sent it, he threw his head back and waited. A minute later, his phone vibrated.

"Perfect." He said after he checked the message. He put the phone down and drove away from there.

Axel and Asher arrived Havilla the next day. As usual, the moment they arrived, the once lively palace was thrown into silence and hushed whispers.

"Welcome back, Your Highness." Two men greeted him the moment they stepped into the castle and he nodded in acknowledgment.

"Has the meeting commenced?" Axel inquired while walking in the long hallway that led to the throne room. He moved with his head held high and an expressionless look on his face. Asher and the other men had similar looks on their faces and they walked in the same manner.

"Yes, Your Highness. About ten minutes ago." One of the men answered.

When they reached the throne room, the two guards stationed at the huge double doors pushed it open and Axel walked in with Asher. The other two men stood outside. All discussions ceased when Axel stepped in. However, the moment he took his seat, the man who was previously talking, continued.

"There are strong reasons to believe that the venom is responsible for the deaths, Your Majesty." The man's voice echoed in the room.

"What venom and what death are you talking about?" Axel queried. Though he had an idea of what they were talking about, he still feigned ignorance. He moved his eyes to the king only to see him acting as if he knew nothing about the topic of discussion.

"The black venom, Your Highness. There have been a series of deaths reported to have taken place in green light City." The man replied.

"People die every day, Dorian." Axel rolled his eyes and leaned back on his chair. If they wanted to act like they knew nothing, then he was ready to play along and even beat them at their game.

"Indeed, Your Highness, people do die every day. But not vampires. And these are not ordinary deaths. They were murdered in a very strange way." Dorian explained with a grave look on his face.

"The venom is a myth, Dorian. You all made us believe it's not real and now all of a sudden you think it is responsible for the deaths of the vampires. Are you kidding me?" Axel's voice boomed as he looked at the faces of the four men present in the meeting before his questioning gaze finally rested on the king.
