Chapter 23 - A Taste of Heaven

She tasted divine. Pyr slowly traced his tongue inside her mouth, like he was trying to coat the whole thing with his saliva. He skimmed Angel's lips, the inside of her cheeks, and even the roof and the lower part of her mouth did not escape his questing tongue.

He had kissed other women but had he never imagined that kissing his mate would feel like he wanted to crawl and be part of her body.

She tasted coffee and fire.

Dangerous and addicting.

Angel had somehow lost the ability to stand up because she was leaning against him. He sat and placed her astride his lap. Her heated core was directly on his hard-covered flesh. He put her arms around his neck so he could feel her nipples pressing against his chest.

Angel gasped and whispered, "Pyr." She opened her eyes and looked at him. There were an array of emotions swimming in her eyes. Confusion, shock, embarrassment, and desire were the most prominent ones. Yet, when he truly focused on her, not just her eyes, but her whole being, it was the fear of the unknown that stopped him from claiming her lips once more.

He slowly drew her into his arms. His action made her whole body stiffen. Sighing, Pyr said, "Don't mind that. It will go away."

"How can I not mind that," looking at the cock between them. "Look at it! I can put a flag on it, and everyone can see it."

"Babe…" he said in an exasperating voice. He rubbed his chin on top of her head and continued, "It will not bite you, not yet anyway." He felt a painful tug at the nape of his neck. He retaliated by nuzzling her neck and giving her a love bite. He stopped when he was satisfied with his mark. It was deep red, and Jin was happy as well.

"Thea, Biscuits, Saffron, York, and Nugget are the only senior members of the Club that will stay here, babe." He said in a serious voice. "There are eleven prospects who are currently acting as guards for the property."

"Why do I feel like you want to punish your prospects?" she dryly said.

"Because they are a bunch of yahoos, who thought being part of MY Club would draw chicks on their bed!" The last words were a near snarl, making Cole whimper in fear.

Angel narrowed her eyes at him before she smacked him behind his head. She was about to stand up but was stopped. Pyr sighed, he seemed to be doing it more often than before. He reached and picked Cole's bassinet, placing it beside them. He gently tapped the baby's tummy, and not long after, he was sleeping again.

"I don't know how long I will be back," he said once more. "Cole is growing like a weed, and so is Kayla. The rest of the Club members are on different missions and will be back in a couple of days or so," he explained.

"Why are you telling me this?" she asked.

"So that you will not kill anyone who enters the house," he said dryly. "You tend to act now, ask questions later. I'm surprised that you and Thea became fast friends." There was a stupid grin on his face. Somehow, knowing that she and Thea were friends made Pyr happy inside.

"Well…" was all the woman could say.

"Babe, I will be back," he repeated.

"Do I look like some love-sick woman pinning for you?" she asked.

"Nope, you will never be that kind of woman. You will be mine though," he firmly said.

Something inside Pyr felt a weight was lifted off his shoulder by his admission. True, he did not like the idea of having a mate, but looking at the woman on his lap, she would be the perfect one for him.

They were still trying to gather some information about her. So far, they have nothing. He wanted to tell Stavros about her…but…

"MAMA!!!" shouted Kayla. She was running and stopped in front of the two adults. He could see Angel's face turning red because of their position. She even groaned when Kayla asked the most innocent question, "Mama, is papa a good bed? Are you okay? My old mama would do that to my old papa, are you sleepy, mama?"

Pyr had to stop himself from laughing out loud. The look on Angel's face was so comical that if he could read her thoughts, she would be wishing that the ground swallow her right now.

"Mama is not sleepy, Kayla. She is just a bit tired. Papa had to hold her for a while," he explained.

"I will be killing you when you get back," she whispered before standing up and facing Kayla. "Mama's good, Kayla," she told the child. She then picked her up and went inside the house.

Pyr leaned back and rested his elbow on the table. He wanted to join them but he need to make some phone calls. Thea and the others also need to be aware that he will be gone for a week, possibly a week or so. He absently stroked Cole's tummy.

For a male who doesn't like to have children of his own, these two kids are slowly changing his outlook. He sighed. No, he always wanted to have children, but knowing that there were kids whose parents sell them, or even abandon them, made him think people were heartless.

Oh, he understood how the world worked. He had been alive for more than nine hundred years. He had seen enough to know that everything was never black and white. More often than not, most of the living beings he had helped were on the gray side.

'We were asleep for a long time,' Jin said.

"Yes, we were. But the world we live in now is a lot more dangerous than during the Song Dynasty. With the things we have been seeing for the past couple of years, I am not sure if it will be enough," Pyr replied.

'We do what we can,' was all Jin could say.

Pyr nodded. He stood up and stretched, he glanced inside to find Angel looking at him. He grinned when she stuck her tongue out like a child.

"Oh, babe," he said to himself, "that tongue of yours will have a much better use when I get back." He gave a two-fingered salute before he drew his phone and called a man he never would have thought to call.

"Yo, man, you done staking your sister?"
