Chereads / Betrothed To The Prince / Chapter 9 - Dear Mother and Father

Chapter 9 - Dear Mother and Father

"My lady, this letter came in for you today" came the voice of a young woman, she looked like she was in her mid twenties, she had brown hair, which she tied up, and she had brown eyes.

"Leave it on the table" came the voice of a woman who was in another room.

"Alright My lady" said the woman.

"You can go now Missy" said the woman.

"Alright My lady" said the brown-haired woman named Missy.

"If you need anything My Lady, please do not hesitate to call me" said Missy.

"Thank you Missy" said the woman.

"I will take my leave now" said Missy as she bowed and she walked away and she closed the door behind her.

Some sounds of rustling could be heard from the other room, it was not even up to a few minutes that Missy left that he door was opened again and someone walked into the house.

"Lawrence is that you?" asked the woman as she heard the door open.

"Yes dear it's me" said the brown haired man named Lawrence.

He was tall and well built, the hairs on his head were starting to loose their colour, he looked like he was in his early fifties and he removed his coat as he hanged it on the coat rack that was beside the main entrance.

"I will be out soon" said the woman as she still seemed busy in the other room.

Lawrence walked around, and his eyes landed on the small table that had a letter on it, he picked up the letter.

"You have a letter dear" he said

"Yes I am aware" she said.

"Missy brought it earlier" she said.

"It's from Wura" said Lawrence as he turned the letter over.

"Hmm I see" said the woman as she came out of the other room, she removed the apron she was wearing and she folded it and placed it on the table.

"I hope she is well" said Lawrence.

"Of course she is well Lawrence" said the woman as she walked over to Lawrence.

"She is my Wura" she said.

"Correction she is our Wura" said Lawrence as she smiled.

"Whatever you say" said the woman as she looked up at him.

"Do you want to eat now or later?" she asked.

"Of course I want to eat now" said Lawrence.

"I want to taste what my lovely wife prepared for me" said Lawrence with a smile.

"Mhmm you say that now, but you would not even let me in the kitchen back home" said the woman as she looked annoyed.

"My dear Ireti, you know it is because I love you" said Lawrence as he caught hold of Ireti's hand and he pulled her closer to himself.

"Lawrence, let me go set the table" said Ireti

"Only if you tell me that you love me" said Lawrence.

"Stop behaving like a child Lawrence" said Ireti as she looked annoyed.

"I am waiting my dear" said Lawrence as he passed the time by playing with his wife's dark hair.

"You did not plait your hair today" said Lawrence as he kept on playing with his wife's hair.

"My last plait was looking old" replied Ireti.

"I am still waiting my dear" said Lawrence with a smile.

Ireti sighed, she knew that this husband of hers was not going to let her go until he got what he wanted, and he knew how she felt about him doing this kind of thing.

"Fine, I love you too" said Ireti in defeat.

"Wonderful my dear" said Lawrence as he smiled.

"Now I am starving, please serve me lunch" he said as if he was not acting like a child just a few seconds ago.

Ireti sighed and shook her head, she shrugged off Lawrence's behaviour and she just walked to the kitchen.

Lawrence laughed at his wife's irritated behaviour, she was funny when she was like this, he watched her make her way to the kitchen.

He loved his wife very much, from the long dark strands of hair on her head, to her dark skin, and her dark brown eyes.

After Ireti and Lawrence had lunch, Lawrence sat in his armchair, with the fire burning brightly in the fireplace.

He picked up the letter and tore it open.

"Should I read it or should you?" asked Lawrence as Ireti walked into the room.

"You can read it" she said as she sat down.

"Okay then" he said as he opened up the paper.

"Dear Mother and Father" began Lawrence as he read the letter.

"I hope that you are both well in the plains" he continued.

"Oh she needs something" said Ireti plainly.

"How are you so certain just from the first sentence?" asked Lawrence.

"Trust me Lawrence, a mother knows" said Ireti.

"Anyway" said Lawrence

"Everything is alright over here" he continued.

"Aunt Tessa is still as jovial as ever, and Uncle Richard still takes care of her well,

I would love to say that I am alright as well,

But the truth be told, I am not alright,

I am not alright at all,

You see, since your departure from the Kingdom, the Crowned prince had returned from war,

And with his return the festival of virgins commenced,

I did not want to go, but Aunt Tessa forced me to,

And now I am betrothed to the Prince,

Please help me mother and father, I do not want to get married, I am still so young, I made a huge mistake,

I do not wish to be married at this time,

Please return quickly,

I need the both of you

Your daughter,

Diwura"

"Wura sounds distressed, we need to leave now and return to Wyverdale" said Lawrence as he was worried for his only daughter.

"It is even worse than I imagined" said Ireti.

"Our daughter needs us" said Lawrence.

"We must leave now, if we leave now, we will reach Wyverdale by nightfall" said Lawrence as he wasted no time at all and he got up.

"Alright then, let me gather my things" said Ireti as she stood up and quickly went to the master bedroom.
