Chase winced as the medical technician attended to his ribs. The meeting hadn't gone the way he had wanted, but it wasn't totally unexpected. When Ren had presented Chase with that massive marriage contract, he'd known without a shadow of a doubt that Bailey would balk. That said, he'd looked forward to seeing how she would react. That she had managed to keep her seat as long as she had spoke volumes about her breeding and her commitment to making a marriage with him work. Only she wasn't desperate enough to sign up as an indentured servant.
