Chapter 42 - Past memory

Li Yu frowned. "But -"

"Nothing with happen, Li Yu" Bai Liyue assured her with a smile. To the change the current topic, she rubbed her stomach and took a deep breath. "By the way, it smells nice in the kitchen. My stomach's been grumbling for quite a while. Li Yu, hurry up. I want to taste your amazing food."

Li Yu laughed. "Okay, Miss Chen. It will be done soon."

"Sure." Bai Liyue nodded. "And, Li Yu, keep smiling. You look pretty when you smile."

Suddenly getting a compliment from her employer, a celebrity who looked far better, far more beautiful than her, Li Yu felt shy. Her cheeks turned a bright red and her a big smile came on her face. She didn't expect that her employer would suddenly compliment her. Back then, when she was in college she did get complimented by a lot of people on her beauty, but it was a very different thing to get a compliment by a celebrity who was known for her beauty.

She remembered, back then, when Miss Chen debuted, a lot of people praise her beautiful voice. But more than that, many people were fascinated by her beautiful look. Chen Ziyue was one of the most beautiful singers in the current generation.

With a shy look, Li Yu glanced at her employer. "Miss Chen, you are also extremely beautiful. Regardless of the situation on the internet, I think you should keep smiling. Your smile is like a bright ray of sunshine that could cheer anyone up."

Bai Liyue froze, and a look of loss flashed through her eyes.

"M-miss Chen?" Li Yu called hesitantly, with an unsure look on her face. She noticed that the expression on her employer's face didn't seem right. What happened? Did she say something wrong? She recalled her words carefully, but it didn't seem like she said something that shouldn't be said. It was just a simple compliment, that came straight from her heart.

Then why does Miss Chen look that?

"Are you okay, Miss Chen?" she asked carefully, "Did I say something wrong?"

Bai Liyue sighed and shook her head. "No, Li Yu. I just remembered something from the past, that's all. Excuse me, I will be in my room. Call me, when lunch is ready."

Bai Liyue quickly excused herself and rushed out of her kitchen, leaving behind Li Yu who still had a puzzled expression on her face. After rushing out of the kitchen, she went straight to her room, locked the door, and sat on the bed. Grabbing her teddy, she hugged it tightly and closed her eyes, remembering a memory that came to her mind.

-Flashback-

It was a cold, raining night. The moon was cloaked in heavy darkness, with clouds jostling amongst each other causing loud vibrations and flashes of light. Bai Liyue sat on her bed, hugging her favorite teddy bear. Her eyes stared at the raindrops rolling down the glass of her bedroom window, her ears listened to the gentle taps of the water hitting the window. The scene outside the window was blurred by the lines of water, but it didn't matter anymore.

She had the image ingrained in her mind from all the days she had spent staring out the same window. Finally, when she felt tired looking at the window, she turned her head to the side. Her eyes fell on the big clock on the wall. It was past midnight.

She frowned, wondering where Qin Yufeng, her husband was. He never stayed past nine at the company. When she didn't see him during dinner, she questioned the servant but they were unaware of his whereabouts. She glanced at her phone, but there was no message or call from him.

It was quite strange.

She knew, that he would always message or call her without fail to inform her if he would be staying late at the company, or anywhere else.

Bai Liyue bit her lips, her hand clenching the phone in her hand and she was wondering whether to call him or not. Finally, after a long inner struggle, Bai Liyue decided to call her husband. She dialed his number and waited for the call to connect.

A few seconds later, the call was connected.

"Yufeng?" Bai Liyue called his name, but he didn't reply.

Bai Liyue frowned, and a look of concern flashed through her eyes. She could hear some hushed, muffled noises in the background but couldn't make sense out of it. Where was Qin Yufeng? And, why wasn't he answering her?

"Yufeng, are you there?" Bai Liyue questioned again, softly.

However, no reply.

With a sigh, Bai Liyue was about to cut the call, when she heard a sudden roar on the call. It was Qin Yufeng, her husband's voice. "GET AWAY!!! ALL OF YOU!!! I told you all to stop bugging me. Are you all deaf? Can't you hear my damn words? If you can't, go and get your ears checked. Just stop eating my ears with your nonsense. One more word, one more sound and I'll shoot all of you. GO AWAY!"

Bai Liyue frowned at her husband's words. Next, she heard another familiar voice and it was Luo Jin, her husband's best friend, and his psychiatrist. "Yufeng, you are hurt. We need to get your hands treated. You are bleeding...."

When Bai Liyue heard Li Yu's words, she was shocked. Qin Yufeng was bleeding? He was hurt? What happened?

"Yes, Master Qin. Please, listen to Young Master Luo. Look how much blood is dripping down...." Housekeeper Cui begged.

Bai Liyue was surprised when she heard Housekeeper Cui's voice. Her eyes went wide with realization and her phone fell down from her hands. Without thinking about anything, she ran outside her room and straight towards the main hall. Reaching the stairs, suddenly, she paused. She looked at the hall and instantly saw her husband sitting on the big sofa, like a king with Luo Jin standing on one side and Housekeeper Qi standing on the other side.

Meanwhile, all the rest of the servants were standing far away in the hall, with their heads down. She sighed slowly, in relief to see that her husband was alright and nothing major happened to him. However, recalling the conversation, she heard on the phone, she looked down to his hand and noticed a big wound.

"What is going on over here?" she asked softly.
