"What?" Damon turned to Hunter. He walked back to his seat, and Hunter laid down next to his laptop. "How can you be such a cute but vicious animal?"
Hunter closed her eyes, ignoring Damon's question which was obviously for her.
—
A few hours later, Damon had finished his work. Kaia did not walk back into the room, or talk to Damon.
Standing up from his seat, Damon glanced at Hunter, who sat up yawning. He ignored the cub, and picked Echo up, making sure not to wake her. Hunter jumped off the table, and climbed onto Damon's shoulder.
"You forgot to pick me up, "Damon heard a little voice in his ear.
Damon smiled, glancing at the cub. "Don't fall off."
Hunter did not reply. She looked sleepy, and yawned again.
Damon took Echo and Hunter to his car, using the back door. He drove them to his house. Carrying Echo, he entered a large mansion. Hunter followed him, almost tumbling on the stairs.
He entered the same room he had brought her to earlier. He gently laid her down on the bed, and took his coat off her, covering her with the blanket. He then picked Hunter up, and kept her on the bed.
The little cub curled up next to Echo, feeling at home right away.
Damon sighed. He took a pillow, and laid a mattress on the ground next to the bed. He walked out of the room, and came back in a few minutes, in a tank top, and shorts.
Without making a single sound, he laid on the mattress that was on the ground, thinking to himself, 'I'm glad she's alive, and safe. She deserves to be alive… I wish Finn wasn't unconscious, he'd be glad to see her again. She's so cute… What am I thinking?'
Damon closed his eyes in hopes of trying to sleep, but his mind raised. He couldn't stop thinking about Echo, who was just a few feet away from him.
—
Echo opened her eyes, blinking. She yawned and looked around the room in confusion. She sighed, as she began remembering, 'Ugh! Maybe Damon brought me to his house. Come to think of it, this place is the same room he had me tied up in.'
She looked at Hunter who was still curled up and sound asleep. She sat up, and looked to her left, her eyes widened. Damon was asleep on the ground. She felt bad, she had come to his house, and he was sleeping on the ground.
'No! No! Why is he sleeping on the ground? There's so many rooms here, right? Ugh! Why do you have to be this way?' Echo asked herself. She swiftly got up.
"What are you doing?" Damon asked, his eyes still shut.
Echo turned to Damon with raised eyebrows. She was wondering if he was awake or not, at least he did not look like he was awake to her.
"I can feel you staring at me," Damon replied, almost as if he read her mind.
Now Echo was confused, "Huh?... Does mind reading come along with being a demon?"
Damon opened his eyes, and his gaze fell on Echo, "I know you well enough to know that you'd be staring at me in confusion. And even if I did have mind reading powers, why would I tell you?" he teased, sitting up.
"Why did you sleep on the ground?" Echo asked, after a few seconds of silence.
"I'm sleeping on a mattress."
"Damon! You have a large house, and you decided to stay here?" Echo asked, sitting on the side of the bed, while staring at him.
Damon looked at Echo, exhaling calmly, "I just wanted to make sure you were fine." He immediately choked on his own words, as he internally yelled at himself, 'What kind of answer was that? What kind of question was that? Is she that stupid… can't she see that there are other demons here. They'd kill her instantly… or worse. I can't let anyone hurt her again. Never again, I'm going to keep her safe.'
"Are you okay?" Echo asked, tilting her head a little.
"Yeah!" He replied, standing up, and running his hands through his hair. "Uhm… I should have some spare clothes in the closet. It might be a little oversized for you… but you should be able to wear it."
Echo's gaze fell on her clothes, and back at Damon, "What's wrong with my clothes?"
"You can't go out like that. You look…" he paused, searching for the right words, "You look too gorgeous in that!"
"What?" Echo almost jumped out of the bed. She smiled at the thought of him thinking she looked gorgeous.
Damon smiled, "Okay, don't let that go to your head. I'll get you some clothes to wear."
"Damon," Echo's voice turned soft.
"Hmm."
Echo immediately whipped her head to look at Damon. His voice sounded so raspy, and deep. It was the most handsome voice she had ever heard. She soon realised he had been talking to her this whole time in a deep raspy voice. It made her get goosebumps.
"Did you need something?" Damon asked, moving slowly towards the door.
Losing her ability to talk, Echo stared at Damon. He gave out a small smile, and disappeared out of the door.
"Oh my goodness! What just happened? I couldn't even speak… He's so handsome. I need to stop thinking about him… but I can't. Each time I try, he does something even more cute, and then he gets even more attractive… What's happening to me?" Echo mumbled to herself.
"You're in love," Echo heard a soft voice say. Hunter stretched on the bed, and sat beside Echo.
"What?"
"Think about it. You can't stop thinking about him. You find everything he does attractive… and I think he likes you back. Why else would he sleep on the ground and let you sleep on the bed? It's love," Hunter smiled.
Echo cupped her face, pouting, "You're just a little cub. What do you know about love?"
"Even a little cub knows about love," Hunter replied, with a puppy-eyed look on her face.
