Without uttering a single word, Echo followed the commander. She was starting to question where they were going, but soon she got her answer… the dungeons.
The commander stopped in front of a cell. Damon and Kaia were kept in two different cells.
"Release him!" the commander ordered the guard.
The guard opened the cell, unchaining Damon.
"You're free to go, but remember! Whatever you do, she'll be responsible for you," the commander warned, glaring at Damon.
Damon glanced at Echo, and back at the commander nodding once.
The commander turned around, and left the dungeons without a word.
Echo smiled awkwardly, and followed the commander, "I have no idea how to get out of here. The best we could do is follow the commander."
"And what about me?" Kaia asked, pulling on the chains.
"We'll come back for you later," Damon blurted, taking off after Echo.
Echo's heart was beating fast, but it was out of excitement. The commander was indeed much different than she had expected. He still looked very cold from the outside, but he was not a bad person. Echo could feel her mind easing. Damon was walking behind her, it made her happy.
"Why did you ask them to release me?" Damon asked. Echo stopped in her tracks.
That question, how was she supposed to answer it? Isn't it obvious that she cares for him. It wasn't a hard question to answer, but Echo knew that she didn't want to share the answer to it, and she hadn't prepared a fake one either.
Echo continued walking, confusing Damon, "Let's first settle you down before we start asking each other questions," she replied.
Damon followed her again, "If this has something to do with our conversation before Kaia-" he paused when Echo turned to him, with a menacing glare.
What was wrong with him? Echo wanted to punch him in the face, she did not want to talk about Kaia, but he had to bring her name up.
"Maybe I should ask the commander to just lock you up again," Echo turned around, and walked back to the main hall. She clenched her fists.
'What's wrong with him? Does he really care for Kaia that much? Why can't he not talk about her?... Why am I so angry right now?... Daaamon! What did you do to me?' Echo yelled at herself in her mind.
She took him to her house. He looked around the living room, and then turned to Echo.
"Is this where I'm going to stay?" Damon asked.
Echo swiftly turned around with a smile, "Yes! It's my house, and we'll share it."
Damon nodded, looking around, "Okay! Can we talk now?"
"Okay," Echo sighed. She had tried so hard to delay this moment, but here they were with nothing else to do.
"Why don't we start with what you were doing at the club?" Damon asked, casually walking past Echo to sit on the sofa.
Echo sighed, her first thought when he said that they needed to talk was about their relationship with each other, and Kaia. Instead he was more business minded. How very Damon-like...
"I can't answer that question. Ask something else," Echo replied, staring at Damon.
Damon turned his gaze away from her, a sly smirk on his lips. Echo's eyes wandered from his face to his well toned chest, which was visible under his tight t-shirt.
She was oblivious that he had turned his gaze back at her. His smirk was still on his face, when he stood up and walked closer to her.
Echo felt her heart thumping, he stood so close to her, that she could feel his breath on her. Not knowing what to do, she froze.
"What are you looking at?" he asked, in a soft raspy voice. Proceeding to lick his lips.
"Uh-" Echo stuttered, earning a smile from him.
"You intrigue me." he mumbled, stepping back, making Echo snap back to her senses.
Damon felt like he was a rope, and she was reeling him back closer to her, but he fought the urge.
Echo took a step back, and stared at the ground, "You wanted to talk?"
"Yeah!" Damon replied, running his hand through his hair, making it messy.
Echo giggled at the few hair strands that were standing up on his head.
Damon smirked at her cute giggle, he was glad that she was getting back to being relaxed around him. His happiness was pushed away when he remembered her talking to Sebastian. The smirk on his face faded, and he glared at Echo.
"Who was that guy you were talking to?" Damon asked.
"The commander?" Echo asked in confusion.
"No, the other one."
"Sebastian?" she asked, continuing "He's a friend!"
Damon nodded, "A friend, huh?..."
"Yeah! He can be a jerk sometimes, but he's really nice," she smiled sweetly.
'A friend… nice?' Damon thought to himself before asking, "Is he your boyfriend?"
"What? No!" The question caught Echo off guard, as she blurted, "I like someone else…"
Damon stared at Echo, taking a step closer to her, "Someone else?... The commander?"
"No! The commander is married!" she blurted.
"Then who is this someone else?" Damon asked. He was curious, but he also knew being too curious without a proper reason would make her suspicious of him, so he added, "Finn's not here, so I have to take care of you and make sure you don't meet the wrong people."
Echo glared at Damon, thinking to herself, 'This stupid hum… He's not a human anymore. But still is he this dumb? And he has to bring up my brother... maybe he just doesn't like me… I should ask him about Kaia.'
"Kaia-" Echo was interrupted.
"What? You like Kaia?" Damon almost exploded, as he stepped closer to her again.
"No, you idiot. I was going to ask a question!" Echo replied, frowning. She huffed in anger, "Jerk!"
"What do you want to ask?" Damon asked, patiently.
Echo tilted her head, pursing her lips, "Are you and Kaia together?"
"No!" Damon replied, staring at Echo, and then sighed, "What made you even think that?"
"I don't know maybe the way she hugged you," Echo replied.
