***ALEX'S POV***
I bolted up and started to run on my toes. I had not heard a single squeak or creak on this floor since I had been in it, but I just knew that, now that I needed to be quiet, this was when it would betray me and start to make noise. I just knew that was how it was going to go.
I was moving so fast that I felt like I was barely even touching the ground before I leapt another couple of feet down that hall and barely landed on the toes of my other foot. I needed to get away from here, and away from her. I needed to get back into the room and pretend that I hadn't been out of it at all.
I was almost there, just another couple of feet to go when I heard them on the stairs below. I knew that they were still at least a flight or more below me, but it sent my heart into overdrive that caused me to panic and made me start to sweat. I was seriously nervous right now.
