Chapter 23 - Know In Time

"So you're a vampire?"

"Yep."

"So... you really drink blood."

Gregory squinted his eyes at Lilith. "No. I drink urine."

Sarcasm was obviously laced in the tone of his voice which made Lilith laugh as she realized that she did ask a stupid question.

"Alright, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to sound like an idiot. It's just that I didn't yet come across a vampire until now."

"That is to be expected," Gregory replied with a grin. "Well, congratulations on meeting your first-ever vampire."

"Awesome. I knew they always existed, but never thought I'd meet one."

The two only met today, but it turned out that they really hit it off. They were already eating lunch in the throne room, Eucraick also informing the other families that Amon had already gone home.

And of course, the first family to ever hear was Nevin's.

"Amon!"

Immediately, the door of the throne room flew open. As he marched on ahead while his wife and children followed in tow, Dharvey rolled his eyes on the sight and whispered to their children, Aidan and Nadia.

"Sometimes, even I wonder why I married your dad. He acts like a geek whenever he meets Amon."

The twins, Aidan and Nadia laughed. With the three of them together, they were seen as the crimson trio for having natural red hair. The twins, the crimson siblings, really inherited their mother's hair. But of course, there were some sides that they look either of their parents.

"Aaaah... here we go again," Amon mumbled to himself, taking a small sip of his water while he slightly tipped his mask up for him to drink.

Seeing this, it made Lilith look at Gregory and whisper to him from across the table.

"Sometimes, I wonder how he can even eat."

"Oh, he eats alone," Gregory answered. "Just that when it comes to drinks, he can take it with us together. He finds it more important than food."

"I see... so he eats when we're done eating?"

"Yes," Gregory answered, further explaining. "It's the only time he can also remove his mask."

"I... see." Lilith then briefly looked at Amon as he was talking to Nevin who seemed to be scolding him for something. "And why do you think he doesn't remove his mask?"

"Lilith!" Sicily scolded her, bumping her hand slightly as she was sitting beside her. "It is inappropriate to ask this to someone who is not the person while the person you're talking about is near, too."

Lilith blinked her eyes a few times. "But Sicily... I remembered asking about it when I was young, but he never answered it."

"And there is a reason why," Sicily replied, letting out a small sigh as she continued scolding her in a whisper that only Gregory can hear as Amon, Nevin, Eucraick, and King Blanc discussed amongst each other.

"Sicily... do you know?"

"Well..." Sicily looked down on her plate and then started slicing her steak into small strips. "I am in no position to say."

Lilith narrowed her eyes at her as she took a piece of her meat from her plate and ate it. She spoke in between chews.

"It seems you know a lot and when I was young, you often dismissed them."

"Lilith..."

Sicily felt a bit guilty. She often told Lilith that they have to be honest with each other but when it comes to topics like this, she is but a mere chamberlain whom Eucraick, Amon, and the king trusted. It would still be better if the information came from them.

"I wanted to tell you—even as you grew up. But you have to understand... I am their servant, and I am still working for them. They will be the one to tell you things."

"But you're my standing mother," Lilith commented, her brows furrowing together. "You can tell me and—"

"The atmosphere around this area is getting heavier," Gregory commented, interrupting their conversation. "And three unknown people to me are approaching the table. You have to give it attention. Please."

Lilith's and Sicily's mouth turned into a tight line. At the same time, Dharvey, Aidan, and Nadia came to the table. With them already going to their designated empty seats, they spoke to greet the people around the table.

"It's nice to see you again, Sicily, Lilith," Dharvey commented, the two ladies addressed smiling at them as well.

"Nice to see you again, Dharvey," Sicily greeted, the woman looking at her twins. "Aidan, Nadia, a pleasure."

"Likewise," the twins answered in unison, now looking at Lilith from across the table.

"So what's up?" Nadia asked as she now laid the table napkin on her lap. "I see a new person?" she added, looking at Gregory who is seated beside her twin brother, Aidan.

"Gregory. Nice to meet you."

"Nice to meet you," Aidan replied, greeting him as well. "I'm Aidan, and this is my twin sister, Nadia. Beside her is our mother, Dharvey. And the man talking to the others, my dad, Nevin."

"Thank you for the introductions," the vampire said with gratitude, making another comment that made Dharvey and the twins curious. "It was getting a bit awkward before you three came, so good thing it went smoothly."

With the remark given, Dharvey and the other two looked at Sicily and Lilith.

"Why? What's wrong?" Dharvey asked, Sicily letting out a sigh as she whispered to answer her question since both of them got close as well while they took care of the twins and Lilith as they grew.

"It's Lilith. She—"

"Nothing," Lilith interrupted. "I just wanted to ask questions from Sicily about Amon. She seemed to know a lot but she didn't want to tell me anything."

Without Sicily further explaining her side, Dharvey immediately knew what she meant. It was about Amon and about why she was kept in the dark.

Dharvey of course, also knew about Lilith and why she's here. With her also in no position to say anything, she let out a sigh, not also wanting to comment about it since her twins do not also know why Lilith is here.

"Be patient, dear," Dharvey just said, further talking about it. "You will know in time."
