Chapter 29 - I Hope that Someday

"Sounds fine with me." Gregory nodded. "So, that empty grave. Does it belong to Lilith's mom?"

Amon narrowed his eyes at the vampire. Gregory smiled and shrugged. He couldn't help but laugh as he knew why the Grim Reaper was staring at him like that.

"What... you told me to change the subject. I'm just doing what you told me to do."

"Cunny," Amon commented, letting out a sigh. "You know that this is another topic that I wouldn't want to talk about even though we have already talked about it in brief with the king and his adviser."

"I know. But now that we're both alone, I see my shot in asking you the question." Gregory then sat on the bed, patting the space beside him, and teased Amon further. "Now sit beside me, troubled one. And let me listen to you."

"Shut up." Yet the Grim Reaper still sat beside him and then thought of the issue at hand--the empty grave. "I just... don't understand."

"Well..." Gregory crossed his arms in front of his chest as he thought his best to continue the conversation with the information given to them. "You visited after how many years since you wanted to pay respects to the corpse, right?"

"Yes."

"And the person is Lilith's mother."

"Yes."

"And it was freshly... dug?"

"I'm not sure..."

Amon cupped his chin in between his thumb and index finger, thinking aloud so that Gregory could hear.

"Like I told you... it seemed like it wasn't dug on purpose. It's as if the body was desperate to come out since there were no signs of tools used to open the earth."

Hearing this, Gregory couldn't help but shudder.

"It's like a zombie coming out of its grave. Probably in the hunt for brains?"

Amon arched a brow at him. If only he wasn't wearing his cow-head mask, then the vampire would see his incredulous expression.

"You're an immortal being and we know fully well about occurrences or creatures like this. Why did you cringe?"

"I know we're immortal beings and there are a lot of possibilities and all... but imagine a dead person suddenly coming to life and no longer there from where it belongs!"

Amon is known to be a serious man, but this time, he couldn't help but let out a chuckle. It was a rare occasion for the Grim Reaper to laugh so hearing and seeing him like this surprised Gregory.

"I could say the same with you since you're a vampire--or to any immortal being for that matter."

"But... well..."

Gregory knew that if he further commented on Amon's joy, he might never show that side ever again. That is why he redirected the topic to the empty grave.

"You asked me to find out about it, right? Not a lot of people go to that place because they see that house along with the grave beside it as a haunted house. Just like the woman whom I fooled around with before eating her. She said that."

"So there is nothing significant about it?"

"Apparently... I don't know if what the child said was true, though."

"Child?" What Gregory said piqued Amon's curiosity. "What child? And what did he say?"

"The son of the woman. He told me that occasionally, there is a woman walking there back and forth near the grave as if waiting for someone. She is often sighing and whatnot."

"A woman? Waiting back and forth? What does she look like?"

Gregory shrugged. "Not sure. The child just told me that the woman is often crying that's why no one dared to go there, even during the daytime."

Amon cocked his head to the side. "Did you investigate during the daytime?"

"No."

Amon furrowed his brows even though no one could see his face.

"Why not?"

Gregory pouted and immediately hugged Amon as if he was a child. He even altered his voice as he pretended to be a little boy, clinging on to his guardian.

"Because I'm scared~! What if it's a ghost? The grave is empty, what if it's a zombie? No, no~! Iya daaaa~! Ah!"

Gregory even pretended to say no in Nihongo. With a push from the Grim Reaper, Amon pretended to cry as he balled his fists and wiped his eyes with them.

"Mean, mean! I was telling you that I was scared and--"

"I'm serious," Amon interrupted, further talking to the vampire. "Why weren't you able to investigate it?"

"Ah..."

Gregory knew that Amon was down to business. He then scratched the back of his head and answered his question.

"Well, I figured that you would have to know because this is something important. I'd rather tell you first and then we go visit the place together."

"Hmm... makes sense. It is indeed better."

"Yup," Gregory agreed, nodding his head at the same time. "But you know, shouldn't we like... get Nevin with us? He seems to be knowledgeable about the human world with his exploration and all."

"Ugh..." Amon groaned when he heard the vampire's suggestion. "Do we really have to? He keeps pestering me."

"If you want better answers and better investigations, then why not? We don't have much of a choice, don't we?"

The Grim Reaper let out a sigh. As he shook his head as he knew that he also had to go with the plan for a better outcome, he then stood up and adjusted his cow-head mask. It is one of his mannerisms since it always felt heavy on him.

Even though he had always worn it since day one, he still wasn't used to how heavy it is. Rather, he felt that every time he led souls, it would get heavier for him even though the cow-head mask is not an artifact for his powers.

Just a blockage of his power for it to prevent upcoming accidents.

"Now that I told you this, Gregory..."

Amon then smiled at him, feeling a bit lighter now that he opened up to one of his close friends.

"I hope that someday, you will tell me more about you, too."
