"You think it is going to leave us alone for now?" Mariana breathed into Daniel's ear.
She knew in her heart that they were safe, and not only for now, but also for all of eternity. She knew that this thing would not come back for their blood, not ever, not now, not after the fall of their shared world.
She just wanted the reassurance from someone who knew why things happened the way they did.
"Aye," the pirate king said slowly, as if he was waiting for some confirmation as well. His eyes visited her face very briefly; it was a pause just long enough for her to be able to tell that he was certain of the truth he spoke, but unsure of the answer to the question he had not heard spoken aloud just yet.
She nudged him gently. This was the biggest amount of activity she had directed towards him, and she did not intend to repeat her insistence on being so close to him. She merely wanted to get onto his skin right now, she did not care about looking needy.
