The coin looked like it was hesitating, just like the two people staring at it with the intensity of a cat watching birds.
"Which do you hope it will be?" Daniel asked Mariana.
It came up with tails facing upwards.
Mariana let out a deep sigh.
"This one," she said. "I am tired of carrying the fates of this world on my shoulders. I think we should obey the coin toss."
"Well, I think we should honor Lady Luck while we still can," Daniel said, and it looked like he was about to say something else as well, but then a door was opened somewhere not too far away from them and they both shuddered.
The first thought in Mariana's head was that someone was onto their little retirement plan and she crouched behind the chair she had been sitting in to get a clear view of the situation while not being seen herself.
