Chereads / A Man and his Past / Chapter 7 - Funeral

Chapter 7 - Funeral

The sky was dark and twisted, rain drops dribbling onto the ground as thunder rang through out the sky. A group of people were seen around a casket, some holding star shaped umbrellas, others merely accepting the rain.

A hand went down into a pile of mud and dirt, throwing it into the open hole as the casket was lowered, the boy feeling the slime like feeling on his hand, the rain slowly washing it away. Dawn shivered as he felt the rain on him as he wiped away the mud, going back to standing by his aunt. Ever since he's been diagnosed, the two hasn't left each other's side. Most of it being Flora and her being afraid of losing him. The dark haired boy stared at the ground, fiddling with his hands. A sudden shadow appeared, causing him to follow it with his eyes, seeing a dark figure standing behind the two graves. But, he didn't scream. Dawn only watched as the two stared at each other, pebbles of dirt going right through the figure.

He then snapped out of his trance, feeling a hand on his shoulder. "Everyone is leaving. We should go." Flora suggested, looking at the leaving crowd. "Already? But we just started.." Dawn muttered. "Not many people liked your parents.." With that, Dawn grabbed onto Flora's arm as the two followed the crowd. "Not liked? Why wouldn't they? Sure, mother was somewhat crazy..but she was beautiful and lovable." Thought Dawn. He didn't dare to ask Flora, since she might not know, and if she did, she wouldn't tell. No one would. The family was mysterious. Which only fed Dawn's wonder.

As they drove back to the house, the boy played with his curly hair, slightly scratching at his growing beard. He couldn't believe he'd be 17 in a few months. Though, he didn't want it. The thought of his parents not being there cracked his heart. Dawn couldn't imagine a world without them, yet here they are. Gone. Never to be seen again, until death. "Sad, isn't it?" A sudden voice asked behind Dawn. The boy's vision turned to the window, seeing his blood covered mother behind him. He felt his breathe hitch in slight fear. "It's sad that we wouldn't be able to be there..at least, not in a 'good form'. What would people call this?" Beth touched the blood running down her face, staring at herself in the window's reflection, "demonic? Supernatural..who knows." Hummed the lady, turning to Dawn. "Why did you leave so soon? You should've told her to stay just a little longer..John wanted to see you!". Dawn ignored her, turning his head away. It made Beth huff. "Still stubborn..you shouldn't be soon. Be a good boy for aunt Flora, hm?". The teen watched as his mother smiled, vanishing into thin air. The boy let out a quiet sigh, looking down at his hands, fiddling with them.

The two arrived at the now slightly cracked house. "I can't believe it's already cracking," Flora sighed as she helped Dawn out of the car. She then turned to him with a grin. "I saw something in the male! It's from a girl..it's very important that you read it," Flora then grabbed his shoulder, "and I mean it.". Dawn's eyebrows furrows in confusion, watching his aunt walk into the house. "Important..a girl? I don't know any girl that likes me enough to bother sending a letter to this house. The house." Thought Dawn. He only brushed it off as he walked inside. The hazel eyed boy walked to the living room, eyeing the letter as he sat. It had a pink flower wax stamp in the middle, holding it shut. It looked formal..and he wasn't sure why. He did have a horrible feeling about this. Dawn reached across the table, grabbing it.
