"Not surprised about how direct he was about it." Exclaimed Ella as Diana gave her a brief about what happened. They were having tea in her room away from their brothers getting to know each other more, having a good time.
As it got late, Ella guided Diana to the room prepared for her, who jumped on the bed as soon as she entered. It was a long day, one that had her laughing and smiling alone in the room hugging her pillow.
She suddenly felt herself falling asleep, even though she was unwilling to and did her best to fight. Weirdly she felt the presence of someone in the room. Turning her head, she could see a figure standing there with pitch black hair and eyes while hers were closing, only to start a weird dream, a vision.
A red sky, covered by dark clouds. Taking a look at the ground, red rivers of blood and dark corpses. The only colors that existed in this world.
On top of a thousand piles of these corpses stood a man, holding on what hand what looked like an angel's wing cut off and a demon's head on the other, it had an ugly expression, the same as Daciel, as they tried their best to run away from the horror they saw.
Diana felt like she was choked by death, the pressure of this scene made her lose her mind.
The man had a wide back, she could not see him clearly as he was as dark as a shadow, turning his head slightly. Diana's eyes widened, His eyes shinned like Cayn's. That bright distinctive color, those depressed yet mad eyes, she would recognize them anywhere.
The man did not turn his head fully, just enough, to get a look at Diana.
She gasped, waking up on her bed sweating and screaming, checking her neck and body all over. She had a crazy expression in her eyes. She knew, just now, she died. It did not take her long to calm down, fortunately, the maids and guards did not notice any of this.
That was Cayn, she was sure. She decided not to overthink it or the unknown figure before talking with him first. Diana was different.
The day went by fast by Ella's side as they walked around the palace and had their meals.
Cayn was nowhere to be seen.
Later in the afternoon, Ella helped her get ready for the date.
Diana spent her whole life training, honing her skills, her figure was a remarkable sight, dressed in a stunning black dress she looked at herself in the mirror and smiled. She wished to look beautiful for him.
As they went out of the room, they found Cassis waiting outside for his sister. Looking at her dressed like that he was confused, before he could speak Ella pushed Diana "Just go, you're going to be late."
Diana only smiled at her brother while walking away.
He turned to Ella, who said without giving him time "a date with my third older brother."
"What," he stopped, as if something crossed his mind, looked around the halls for a moment, "Will you, be free tomorrow night?"
Ella stared at him, noticing his red ears, they are siblings, she thought. "Why not tonight?"
He looked at her surprised, while she looked calm with her ocean blue eyes, "I, just thought it would be too late for you to get ready."
"Means I don't look good enough now?"
"NO, no." he jumped from his place, "You look really beautiful."
"Hmm."
"Would you, like to join me for dinner tonight?"
"Give me a moment," she said with a smile as she entered her bedroom.
Cassis on the other hand had a big smile stuck on his face. "Few," as he held into his heart.
Diana came out of the palace, finding Cayn waiting for her in front of a carriage.
She stared at his handsome self, black shirt tightened around his chest, broad shoulders, big arms, and veins with his sleeves rolled, his well-drawn jawline with his veiny neck, his dark messed hair falling on his big eyebrows, then his cold eyes...
From head to toe, this man was a feast to her eyes. He turned around to look at her, who was smiling happily. He held his hand asking for hers, she chuckled as he kissed it, "You look beautiful." While he pierced her with his cold eyes. She smiled in embarrassment.
"Thank you, you look handsome yourself."
He smiled at her words, helping her get in the carriage.
He followed and the ride went on. While he kept staring at her, she was shying from his gaze, avoiding him, "W-what?"
He said nothing, their eyes met for a moment. His expression became colder, before he spoke, "You saw me, in the dream."
Diana was taken aback by his words, she forgot about it when he stood in front of her. She regained her posture, "I knew that was you."
He smiled at her.
"What was that vision? And who was that figure that appeared in my bedroom?"
"You seem rather pissed at the intruder, I shall answer that one first."
Diana listened, they were serious.
"That was my sworn brother."
"What do you," Diana thought for a moment before saying more, as she looked at his bright eyes. "Then let me rephrase that. What is he?"
Cayn slowly answered with his deep voice, "An angel."
Diana could not believe what she just heard, then she wondered for a moment, the demon-like corpses she saw in the vision were different from the demons in this world, they were more humanlike, with the red sky, and angles.
Diana raised her eyes to look at him, with a sharp look, "why did he show me that vision?"
"It was a test."
"Being tested by an angel to see if I am worth his brother. I guess to fail this test meant being scared of you. What would happen if I had failed?"
"You would forget me."
"Ah, you guys are stupid. Is there anyone in this world who would not be scared of such a sight?" Diana started laughing.
Cayn smiled.
"Then one last thing." She got back to herself. "What are you? And how did you get from that world to this one?"
"I was born here after passing away, a normal human, your soon-to-be fiancée if you wish." He answered with a smile.
"Haaaa, You are anything but normal." She laughed again.
Diana then thought about this for a while, this cleared many things to her, like how intense his bloodlust was as if he fought thousands of wars while it was a peaceful time in the last decades or his cold and distant personality."
"Is your brother still here in this world?"
"He just came to say hi, he had to leave."
She sighed, even though this was too much, the man standing in front of her was but a man reborn here. It was not that crazy of a story as sometimes humans and demons in this world could summon beings from other worlds. "I hope we can find the time for you to tell me more about your world. Either here or there you are still the same man who protects his family. I wish to get to know more about you. And, I am happy that you became such a fine man, no matter the struggles you had to go through in both these lives. I am proud of you. As your soon-to-be fiancée, I hope you can let me take care of you." Diana had a warm-hearted smile as she spoke.
Cayn sat there expressionless, his lips slowly drew a smile. Her heart fell when she saw him, "I have to say, Thank you, for choosing me," he gently said.
She was stunned by his words, she started laughing cutely, "Then again, you should also be scared."
"Oh?"
"The real struggle will be in the future, you will have to deal with me, be used by me, will always have to care for me as I do for you." As she spoke, she got closer to him, held him by the collar, and grabbed him closer to her. "The rest of your life's story will be filled with one word, Diana."
Cayn smiled, "I feel like the king of the world."
Looking at his warm smile, she shied away, got back to her seat, and looked out the window. He did the same, she turned slowly to watch him, enjoying the art in front of her as long as the ride lasted, and he did not seem to mind her stare.
The carriage stopped in front of a two-story building. Cayn got down and escorted her, her hand in his arm she said, "It looks beautiful," as soon as her eyes fell on the restaurant.
Entering the place, Diana was surprised that it was empty. A waiter came in to guide them to the upper floor. Cayn held the chair for her as she sat, through the course of the night he never stopped being courteous, she was treated with care, and each action did not fail to stir her heart, as she knew he was a man with few words who spoke with his actions.
"You don't like crowds," She said putting her hands on her face and smiling.
She did not notice Cayn flinching when she smiled like that, "thought tonight I should focus on one sound."
"Y..." just as she was about to ask, she put her hand on her heart realizing what he meant.
He chuckled, his words and smile at this moment led her to forget how to breathe. He noticed it, putting his hand on top of hers on the table. "Breath," he said slowly, she calmed down surprisingly.
Taking the menu from the waiter Cayn suggested a few dishes to her, they kept holding hands even after ordering.
"How is your mother? Seeing you holding her like that no one can deny how much you cherish her."
"Yeah, I do. And she is doing well, what about your dad?"
"I do miss him," she says with a longing smile. Diana never knew her mother, her dad was everything to her. Being the warrior he is, he could only teach her the sword, and she grew up wielding it.
The dinner went by smoothly, with Diana talking about her family and childhood, while Cayn made a few comments here and there. She also cherishes her family, it was after they finished their food that she noticed she talked a lot.
Reading her expression he gently said with a smile, "I am a good listener, don't worry." He held her hand and stood up, "Dessert is somewhere else."
"Oh, okay."
Taking her deep inside the restaurant, she was confused, the waiters and chefs bent down to him as they walked past them in the hall, to an empty kitchen.
"It's mine," he said, giving her a seat.
"You, will cook it for me?"
He smiled and kissed her hand before letting her go, "watch me," he said as he put on his apron, which, made Diana's cheeks hot by how good he looked.
