Chapter 32 - Chapter Thirty-Two

Mira sighed as her head hit the door. She was thankful both Kylo and Indigo had come and told her what Vilen and Alzie had planned to do. She knew Vilen would go speak to Cyro next, he seemed to enjoy pissing Cyro off. She placed her hand on her chest, hurt that Alzie would suggest such a thing. She knew they had been distant lately, but she didn't think Alzie hated her. She began pacing around her room, trying to think of how to get herself out of this situation. A knocked sounded at the door, and she gave pause. If it was Cyro then maybe he came to fix their broken relationship. If its Alzie or Vilen then she wanted nothing to do with them. She slowly crept to the door and peeked out. It was Indigo again. His black fur looked a bit ruffled, and he had a dark look on his face. He looked down at her, a corner of his mouth lifting up. She quickly straightened up and let him in. He was very different than the others. He had a more sophisticated aura about him. It was almost like he was one of those rich people you see in tv dramas. Except he was also really hairy. He waited for her to close the door and then motioned for her to sit.

"I came, because after today's actions, you and Cyro both are going to need help." She couldn't help picturing him with little glasses and a button up shirt with a vest over it.

"Uh, what do you mean by me and Cyro." She was sure Cyro wasn't in any danger.

"You see little miss, Cyro swung at the Chief of the tangerine tribe." His voice turned very serious, and he had that dark look again. "Doing such a thing could be see as an at of defiance or war."

"Ok, then how do we handle the situation?" She knew Vilen would use every opportunity to remove Cyro from the picture, but that didn't mean she'd let him.

"We?" He looked at her a hint of surprise glimmering in his eyes. "I see, well, first we have to see how he will be charged."

"Ok," she tried to swallow as her throat began to feel tight. She didn't like the sound of any of this. "How bad are the punishments?"

"Best one is he's imprisoned for ten years," she looked at the floor as the reality of the situation sunk in. "The worse one he'll be put to death."

She couldn't stop the gasp from leaving her mouth as she gazed at him. Her hands began to shake, and tears were burning her eyes. She never meant for anyone to get hurt, especially not him. Her heart was breaking right there in front of a kind wolf who knew nothing about her. Her hand was covering her mouth in an attempt to silence herself. Indigo kneeled down in front of her and held her other hand in his big paw like ones.

"I won't let it come too that." His voice has lowered and softened in an attempt to calm her. "I will do everything I can to keep him for any of the punishments."

She couldn't stop the tears from coming anymore. Leaving him behind to go home was one thing, him dying for her was another. He couldn't die for her, not for her. She broke his heart; he didn't deserve this. Her throat felt like someone poured boiling water down it, her chest felt like someone stabbed it. She fell into Indigo's arms as he hugged her. She really needed Cyro right now, but she was sure they already captured him by now. He held her tight stroking her matted curly hair. His fur felt so soft, and he was so warm. She didn't know how long they had been there, but her stomach rumbled reminding her she hadn't ate much lately. She felt too nauseous to eat anything and was too devastated to have an appetite. Tears still streaming down her face, she pulled away and crawled into bed. She felt so defeated and needed to be alone right now. She doubt they would let her see Cyro. This was all her fault, and she didn't have a clue how to fix it.

"I'm ganna get you some substance and see if I can't get them to let you see him." He paused just at her door before leaving. "Don't go anywhere."

She just nodded and rolled over, covering her head with the blanket. His scent was already disappearing, so faint she had to concentrate on it. She wanted to disappear into the bed and back into Cyros arms. She also wished none of this ever happened and that she was back home in her own bed. She closed her eyes letting her self-sink into the bed and his scent. She couldn't full relax, but it was somewhat comforting. The closest she could get to him right now. Darkness came over her and she drifted into sleep. She didn't sleep well. She was plagued by nightmares of Cyro dying in front of her. Her being dragged away by Alzie and Vilen to be tested and experimented on. She tossed and turned as she screamed in her sleep. At one point she was fully aware of it being a nightmare, but still couldn't wake up.

"MIRA!" She jumped up, wide awake and startled. Indigo was holding her by the shoulders a look of surprise on his face. "Are you alright?"

"Y… Yes. I'm fine just a nightmare." She pulled away from him, still somewhat shaken.

"Here, eat this. Tomorrow, you get a chance to speak with Cyro." He handed her a bowl of grapes with some eggs. "Until then we need to figure a out a way to free him."

"Where's Kylo? Y'all are normally together." She picked at the food still nauseous.

"He's getting supporters for Cyro. Everyday new tribe chiefs will be showing up to discuss what to do with you." He looked out the window, the sunset mixing with his grey eyes. It looked so beautiful, like the leaves during fall. "Now they will also discuss Cyro's future."

It grew very silent as they both sat awkwardly. Trying to process everything was a battle. She was in danger and now instead Cyro was stuck with her fate.

She finally placed a grape in her mouth, the juice once rich and sweet, now bland in her mouth. She paused for a moment looking down at the food, wondering if she was coming down with something. She grabbed some of the eggs and placed them in her mouth. They tasted so much blander than the grapes, making her stomach worse. She forced herself to swallow it, begging for it to stay down. She handed the food back to him, waving her hand no, as she started to stand up. She walked to the window, hoping the fresh air would help. He cleared his throat directing her attention back to him.

"Do I need to get a doctor?" He stood and gestured to the door.

"No, I'm fine, I'm sure it's just from all the excitement." She turned back to the window. "Or a small stomach bug, either way I'll be fine."

The fresh air did help a lot with her stomach, the cold breeze welcoming on her skin. She could hear him placing the bowl down and walking towards her. She didn't care, but it was natural instinct for her to be fully aware. What she really could use was some chocolate milk. It just helped make her feel better sometimes. Of course, not much seeing as she's lactose intolerant. But it did help, nevertheless. She smiled at him and moved over as he stood next to her.

"So, I think we need to start with using the law of protecting females as a reliable reason for what he did." He was back too his cool, serious, and sophisticated way.

"What do you mean?" She felt very confused. They had to make a law like that.

"Its fairly new. See our tribes' females are losing their fertility." He looked down at her and explained like he was speaking to any other beast. "SO due to loss of population and fear of extinction, we made it to where it was illegal to harm a female in anyway. Even the smallest thing will be punishable by death."

"I see, so if we spin it right, Vilen could actually end up being sentenced to death." She didn't want Cyro dead, and she doesn't like Vilen the slightest bit. But she didn't want anyone dead.
