"Mm, mm… mm!" Mark was making all sorts of weird noises as he gobbled down the different flavored packets of chips that were lying on the table in front of him. "These are really good!" He said with his mouth full and pointed his finger at the large pile of packets, and Jacob, who was sitting beside him, ignored his words and continued to stare at his face with a stupefied expression.
"Alright.. Jacob, buddy… I didn't want to actually tell you this, but since you've been staring at me for quite some time, and I'm your friend, I guess I have an obligation to do so…" Mark wiped his face and mouth off using a napkin before placing his hand on Jacob's shoulder, and said, "I'm not into guys, okay?"
"Wh- What?! No! Fuck you!" Jacob, who seemed to have been snapped back to reality with Mark's words, immediately slapped his hand away with an annoyed look on his face.
"See, now you're in denial." Mark shook his head and spoke as though he was being sympathetic towards Jacob. "Tsk, tsk… you can keep lying to yourself about my sexual orientation all you want buddy. But sooner or later, you're going to have to come to terms with it. And when you do, I'll be there, right next to you. As a friend, of course."
"Fuck you! That's not why I was staring at you, alright.." Jacob clicked his tongue and turned his gaze away before leaning back onto his chair as he whispered softly, "Just...What the fuck happened to you, man?"
"What do you mean?" Mark asked as he continued probing through the large pile, searching for a different flavored packet of chips.
"You know exactly what I mean," Jacob said with a tone of annoyance as his gaze stuck on the indifferent Mark, who picked a purple coloured packet out from the large pile in front of him.
The kids who were passing by them through the cafeteria were giving them weird looks, but Mark didn't seem to care, and Jacob was concentrating on Mark and his seemingly overnight transformation from a loser to a fighting champion.
"I'm talking about how you beat up Derek. You know, the class bully, who you took down within seconds, and whose wallet you stole to buy yourself the entire stack of packed chips in the school for some reason.." Jacob waved his hands around in the air as Mark continued to devour the chips as though his life depended on it.
"Oh yeah, you're talking about that!" Mark said nonchalantly, right after which he grabbed a bunch of chips and shoved it into his mouth like an animal. "But didn't I already tell you that I was going to beat his ass today? Remember?"
"Yeah, I guess you did. But I assumed you were joking!" Jacob slammed his fist on the table, making it shake, and Mark grabbed onto it tightly.
"You know, it's always nice to hear how much your friend believes in you.." Mark said in a sarcastic tone, and Jacob snorted in response. "Man, fuck you, alright. You were a loser till yesterday. How the fuck was I supposed to know that you'd wake up today and transform into the terminator, or something?"
"Huh. 'The Terminator'. That sounds like a cool nickname. I guess I should start calling myself that." Mark turned his gaze upwards and whispered to himself, and Jacob raised one his eyebrows. "Did you just pick a nickname for yourself?"
"You're damn right I did," Mark said with an evil smile on his face before continuing to devour the chips on the table. "You can call me Mark 'The Terminator' Fukuoka from now on."
"Alright then Mr. Terminator… Can you please tell me what you did to get so strong?" Jacob was impatient as he spoke. He seemed like he wanted to know the secret really badly. "I really want to beat up the guys who bullied me too. I have dreams too, you know..."
Mark stopped eating the chips and turned to look at Jacob, who returned the gaze, and the two boys exchanged glances for a few seconds.
"You really want to know?" Mark asked, and Jacob, with widened eyes, all of a sudden leaned forward and replied, "Yes. Yes, I really want to know."
"Alright, here you go." Mark looked around, glancing at his surroundings with an expression of caution as though he was about to divulge something top secret, and Jacob couldn't help but get excited. "Yeah, yeah, go on.. Tell me," he said, acting all giddy.
"The truth is, that I'm…" Mark whispered softly, and Jacob leaned forward a bit more, curious as to what he was about to say. "Yeah?"
Mark took a deep breath before saying, "I'm.. I'm really a god."
"...."
"...."
".... Fuck you, dude." Jacob said, after a short period of silence.
"You wanted the truth; well, you got the truth. And the truth is that I'm actually a god. That's my secret." Mark shrugged his shoulders, and Jacob rolled his eyes with annoyance. "You know, you could've just said that you didn't want to tell me."
Mark let out a short snicker as he watched the gloomy Jacob, but all of a sudden, his cheerful expression was suddenly replaced with a look of surprise.
"Holy shit!" He said out loud, and Jacob turned to look at him, puzzled by his words that seemingly came out of nowhere. He asked, "What? What's the matter?"
Mark didn't reply immediately, but instead waited a few minutes, as a faint but sinister smile formed on his face, and Jacob couldn't help but feel as though something bad was about to happen.
"You said you wanted to beat up the ones who bullied you, right?" Mark turned to look at Jacob, who for some reason, felt really nervous. "... Yeah.."
"Well, buddy…" Mark grabbed the shoulder of the still confused Jacob, and pulled him off his chair with ease, much to his surprise. "Wha- Huh? What?!"
"I think I may be able to help you with that!" Mark said with a snicker as he dashed in the direction of the school gymnasium, pulling Jacob along with him. "What the fuck is happening?!"
