Chapter 5 - Cave

'Why?!' That question just keep on repeating inside Lyron's head while trying his best to keep some distance away from his ever so persistent pursuer.

While he tried his best to run-- 'swim' away as fast as he could, those sailors are also trying their best to catch him as fast as they can. Brothers why are you like that?! Cut this merman some slack! What did I ever do to you?! I was just listening and enjoying the music! It's not like I kick your dingdong to earn all of your hate!

If I was still the sickly stickman from my past life then I would be wheezing by now, fortunately the original's body is kinda healthy. Host, thank you! But please help me! How on Earth am I supposed to escape from the claws of these rabid dogs?!

He tried to remember spells that can help him escape this situation, something simple but useable but none matches his requirements. Some spells are easy but does not have any force, some spells are useable but it's hard to perform and requires ingredients to finished and some are blurry or incomplete.

In short, nothing!

He know he can dive down, deeper into the ocean but the threat of monsters that is hidden under the calmness of the sea makes it difficult. It adds to the fact that he's still unaware of the different creatures living in the sea and still adjusting to his new found merman life. How can life still so difficult ah?!

Lyron is still thinking what are his possible escape route when he heard the whale behind him swimming faster, its body fast approaching the surface. The whale jump high out into the ocean and then slap the sea top creating large waves and knocking the fast pace of the ship.

Multiple curses can be heard at the top of the ship, some grunts and the shouting of the men to avoid the whale.

Lyron was speechless. Did the whale just help him?

He glance at the whale that is now looking at him, he nodded his head as a silent thanks and resume swimming faster, away from the ship.

It is already dawn when he found a secluded cave. It is situated in between the big rocks, the entrance covered in long vines, he wouldn't be able to find it if he didn't try to follow the little fishes swimming through the gap. The entrance is too narrow just enough to fit one person crawling in and for the sea water to enter.

While the entrance is small it does not compare to what lays inside. The walls of the cave is covered by damp moss, little shining stones stick on the wall illuminating the cave. It give off an enchanted vibe with what seems to be a firefly flying in the place. The little moonlight that made it's way through the little gap on the top of the cave shines the circular pool situated at the center of the cave. The water looks crystal clear under the moonlight, the small ripples made by the small fishes does not dissipate its beauty.

He was already shivering from the cold and from an empty stomach. What do he need to eat? What mermen eat?

If he will eat fish, he will surely feel guilty.

No! This does not mean that he don't eat fishes in his past life but the fishes he meet in this life seems to be friendly, they even go out of their way to accompany him. He will be an immoral being if he eat his little friends. Brothers! Eating fish sounds like an act of cannibalism on my part. I mean I'm a part fish too, right? Would I get indigestion if he eat them?

He recalled some of the memories of the original and it seems that he mostly eat seaweeds, sea grapes, wakame and other type of kelp. Brother why don't you eat pork? Chicken is also tasty and beef, yes beef, you can eat it too. Don't just stick with eating sea grass! Add some flavor to your already mundane palate!

Lyron sigh. Somehow felt a little bit of remorse to the original. Don't worry brother! If you didn't eat these delicacies, I will!

He slowly swim in the pool, his tail moving at a leisurely pace, splashing little water. He circles the pool feeling complicated, aside from the food supply he don't know what to do. He does not have any plan or direction to follow. He can't possibly swim freely now with the Nast people being hype up searching for a Loreley. But walking on land also pose a problem, he don't know their customs and traditions, he don't have any money or any form of currencies, he don't have any normal clothes, even if he can make one out of magic he will surely stand out. The quality of the clothe a magic produce might be distinguished by other people. Curious glances will be the start, little whispers will follow and a confrontation would soon appear. Questions about my identity might arise, my ability to use magic, my background and it will surely put a pressure on me and I can't have that. I may have the memories of the original but some of them are blurry, a little distorted and some are not just there. The memory might be erase or something from the moment I occupied the original's body.

He was brought back to the reality when he heard his stomach grumbling, a little too loud in this close up space. Heat creeps up in his face before he dive down into the water. So embarrassing! If he have some company they will probably laugh at him.

He sighed. Might as well find something to eat then.

After searching for a little while he found some seaweed and begrudgingly eat it. The seaweed tastes a bit like the sea, with a naturally sea-salty flavour but it is not an overwhelming type of salt just enough to enjoy the taste.

"I think this will do for now." Lyron mumbled.

He leisurely floats on the surface, admiring the walls covered in shining stones and the fireflies that's flying here and there. He opened his mouth and sang the first note of Into The Unknown, the long 'ahhhs' sounds like haunting, full of longing. Its tone carried a scent of loneliness, it echos inside the cave. The voice trap in all sides with him at the center. Opening his mouth again he continue singing, completely aware of the slowly surfacing fishes and the drawing closer fireflies. They circled around him, their movement not fast but follows his sound. The shining stones seems to resonate with his voice as well, their light bright and sometimes deeming like a heart slowly dying but still wanting to live.

His singing last for at most 2 minutes before he swim near the flat surface and claiming it his bed for the day.

Tired from all that chasing, sleep easily envelop him.
