I woke up feeling refreshed despite sleeping in a tree, I immediately untie myself and woke up Charlotte. We both get down to the ground, I pick up my bag, and torch and start the way we're supposed to be going. After about fifteen minutes we hear a snarling and rustling coming from all around us. Charlotte and I both look around eventually finding a pack of coyotes surrounding us. They start to close in their circle when a wolf jumps in front of us and snarls at the band of coyotes to warn them. The coyotes don't back down and start to attack, the wolf easily beats them down, all running away. The wolf turns to face me and speaks "You shouldn't be out here by yourself with nothing to protect yourself with." I quickly grab my dagger and look at him in shock because my neckless had fallen off. "First off thank you but I had it under control, second I have a dagger, third why can I understand you, my neckless fell off?" he chuckles and transforms into a human and walks over to me "That dagger isn't going to do much in this forest." he leans over to get eye level with me, I blush by how close he was and how cute he was. "What are you doing in the forest anyway?" he stands back up me being about shoulder height to him. "I uh... I'm going on a journey to find where my mother used to live," he smirks which just about killed me because it was adorable. "hmm, I should go with you. You're going to need protection." I smile and decide to mess with him a bit. "I don't know, I don't know you all that well, I mean I don't even know your name." his smirk fades into an upset face. "I mean I don't know your name either but I'm Daniel...please let me come with you, I don't want you to get hurt." I smile "I'm Hailey, and I was just messing around with you, you can come." he cheers up and takes the torch from me. "So where exactly did your mother live and why didn't she come with you?" Charlotte winces "My- my mom passed away when I was two..." he looks at me concerned "I-I'm sorry." he looks down at his feet "It's fine you didn't know." he looks at me in the eyes "I'm kinda curious but I'm afraid to ask..." I look at him knowing what he was going to ask. "It's about my father isn't it?" he nods in agreement "He left when I was five, I've been taking care of myself since then. You and the bard in the previous town are the only people I've talked to in years." I look down at my feet until I feel him wrap his arms around and all I could do at that moment was cry but the warmth of his body helped me calm down fast. "Hello, earth to the love birds, we have somewhere to be going!" he turns his face and I blush, there was an awkward silence for a moment "The drake is right, if we want to make it out in three days we need to head out." Charlotte jumps onto his shoulder "I have a name you know." he looks at her "And what might it be?" she hops off of him and looks up at him "Charlotte, now let's go." she jumps onto my beat-red shoulders and Daniel smirks. "~Still embarrassed? You know that's what I can be if you want~" he brings his hand to my chin, tilts my head up, and leans in to tease me, and it works. I back up extremely flustered and look at him sheepishly. "I...you...uh...yes...no...maybe...I don't know." he smirks and chuckles "Don't think about it too much right now. You can answer me whenever." We walk for a while before I feel a burning sensation in my body in multiple places, on my upper and lower back, my head, my hands, and my eyes. For a while I bear it until I can't anymore, I fall to my knees and just before I pass out I see Daniel turn around and catch me.
