Ember began walking, while Inna and Persephone remained confused. "Ember, just tell us where you are trying to lead me." It was Inna who spoke.
Ember sighed. "I just wanted to show you a few of the classes they offer here."
Inna was surprised. "Then why did you act like it was some kind of crazy secret?" She began to approach Ember, who looked slightly embarrassed.
Ember spoke meekly. "I thought it would be funny to act like it was some big thing and then just lead you to a random classroom."
Inna flicked her on the forehead and said, "Lead the way." and so, she did.
Ember led Inna and Persephone to various classrooms. From monster hunting to swimming, there were all manner of different classes available. As much as this school outwardly appeared to be a combat preparatory school, they offered a very wide variety of different classes. A majority of them did involve combat, but the school offered more than that. Pottery, sculpting, painting, even typical history and classes about learning to teach. It was truly a thorough education, and Inna was pretty impressed.
...
After walking around and viewing various classes, Inna had signed up for two more. A class on the history of war, and a class that covered the history of the academies. She was curious to know the history of this moral world.
Inna suddenly stopped as she caught a glimpse of a familiar face. It was Kira, the admissions counselor or something. Inna wasn't sure what his job was exactly, but she began to approach him. Ember was slightly confused, but followed behind.
Inna spoke not so much to him, as she did at him. "Yo, Death. What're you doing here?"
A ghastly skeleton wearing dark robes and holding a scythe appeared from thin air and looked over, inwardly it was stunned beyond all reason. No mortal should be able to see it, let alone know what it is. When it saw Inna, it's facial bones kind of clicked together as if it was laughing. It's voice was deep and gravelly, a testament to the true nature of death. "Inna! It has been some time. It is good to see you, Void Child."
Inna smiled softly. "Indeed, it's been quite some time I'm afraid. What brings you to this lowly mortal planet?" She went in for a hug.
The concept of death personified responded in kind as it hugged Inna. The sight of Death, creator and enforcer of the cycle of life, and known cold-hearted killing machine hugging Inna absolutely stunned Persephone.
Persephone was confused on multiple accounts now. She had no idea as to how Inna even saw Death, because one couldn't see it unless it was coming for you. Reapers were another story. They were soldiers created by Death when the multiverse began expanding. Their job was to collect the souls and herd them towards the appropriate afterlife.
Death cut off Persephone's train of thought by saying "Oh, Inna, I'm just here to investigate. A few of my Reapers have went missing in this world, which is unusual, but does happen every so often." Death's voice was deep and gravelly, truly a voice from beyond the grave, and it made Persephone shudder.
It continued: "I was in the area and felt a sudden heart attack in the area and decided to stop by and take care of it myself. Kind of a coincidence we met."
Inna chuckled softly. "Ah, well, it is good to see you. If you need anything Death, please do reach out, we're friends afterall."
"Will do Inna! Take care!" The aspect of Death waved as Inna and company turned around. Such a scene would've adequately stunned pretty much anyone.
For Ember, she was in the middle of saying something when suddenly she forgot what it was and felt as if moments had just went by without her knowledge. 'Did I just dissociate again, or is this another episode? Ugh, they've been getting worse lately. I can't tell what's happening, but I keep losing track of time. Or I wake up doing something I don't remember starting. What's happening to me?' Her thoughts were chaotic and complicated, when it was really just Inna's doing.
Inna had temporarily frozen everyone around her while she chatted with Death. It wasn't for very long, a few seconds at most, and only the most perceptive people would notice.
"Ember, are you alright?" Inna looked back at her.
"Hmm. Oh yes, I'm fine.." She seemed distraught about something or another, but Inna wouldn't pry.
The trio continued on their way. About half an hour later, they saw medics rushing about the courtyard.
"I wonder what that's about" Ember said with a bit of curiosity, and a hint of worry.
Inna responded "Someone probably had a heart attack."
Persephone glared at her.
.....
At the end of the day, Inna was enrolled in three extra classes, the history of war, academy history, and monster taming. She was most excited about monster taming, as it seemed like the most fun. She wanted to watch the "tamable monsters" terrorize the inexperienced students. Inna was a tad bit sadistic in her joy.
When Persephone and Inna entered the room, they were much more relaxed than they were the previous day. Their time together had pretty much eased the previous tension. Inna was the first to speak.
"So, I need just a few more answers before the day is over. First question, are you aware if anyone is hunting me, and if so, who are they?" Her face turned serious, and Persephone was not one to get in the way of that side of Inna. Her response was swift.
"No, I'm not aware of anyone currently hunting you, though if someone was, they probably wouldn't be open about it. Your allies are still mostly in high standing, and you yourself are an immortal. No one in their right mind would likely attempt you any harm." Her reasoning was sound, and Inna could tell she wasn't lying.
Inna nodded. "So, next question, who's currently overseeing this world?"
"Oh, it's Veril currently." Persephone's tone was filled with confidence.
Inna was slightly confused at her weird outburst of confidence, but nodded regardless. 'Veril probably doesn't care so long as I don't destroy the planet. This is good news.
Inna's tone changed suddenly. Her demeanor became agitated and she spoke with a cool calmness that sent chills down Persephone's spine. "Tell Morgana that I'm back, and that I am not happy they repossessed my house. I had paid the fees for way way more time than I was gone, and I will be reclaiming my house."
Persephone was inwardly scared at first, but her face kind of awkwardly twisted when she realized what Inna was going on about. Sure, having a home was important, but she's overreacting surely..
Inna was indeed overreacting a bit.
