Chapter 15 - Vampiress

The nature of vampires is widely speculated. Their origin was long thought to be a disease they infect others with. This line of thinking isn't entirely incorrect, but for true, royal vampires, their vampiric nature comes straight from its source: Lilith.

Lilith is the progenitor of all vampires and a close friend of Inna's. In return for a favor, she had at one point shared with Inna a modicum of her power over all vampires. Inna can give all vampires (aside from Lilith herself) entirely irresistible commands.

Lilith was not born a vampire. Instead, she was infected when an ascending ritual was tampered with. Once she was turned, vampires began cropping up in every world all across the multiverse. Inna and Lilith both were stunned as to how or why that happened, but it spoke volumes about the multiverse as a whole.

Minor vampires are not weak creatures, at least according to normal human strength. They wield a form of blood magic that causes them to be much stronger and faster than normal humans. Vampires have the second-strongest regeneration capabilities. In addition, they are given a minor form of transformation, and royal vampires have much stronger transformations. All vampires can at least turn into bats, but royals are capable of so much more.

Vampires can also infect humans, effectively "turning" them. This isn't a true transformation, however, and the result is usually a half-vampire. Humans that are turned gain a much higher strength, speed, and agility, yet they retain their soul magic.

Humans and vampires don't get along, humans are, of course, food for them. Most vampires must drink human or humanoid blood. There are rare exceptions, however, with some consuming emotions, or some other bodily fluid. Inna has long suspected that those vampires have experienced demonic influence.

Demons and vampires are essentially mortal enemies. This is likely a side effect of the progenitor of their species hosting a massive disdain for demons. Lilith despises their abhorrent acts of cruelty, and she finds them irritating.

The vampire kneeling before Inna, however, was a normal, regular vampire. She wasn't special. Inna suspected there was an entire brood of vampires nearby. She looked down at the vampire who was kneeling and directly cut her head off. The body slumped to the ground, her blood pouring onto the ground.

It took roughly 30 seconds for the vampire's head to fully reform, and Inna waited patiently. The vampire whose head just grew back remained lying on the ground. Her body had not moved an inch and she seemed extremely exhausted. Bags were visible under her eyes, her skin glistened with sweat, and she was panting as if she'd run a marathon.

Inna looked down at her and spoke. "Little vampire, you should be more mindful of who is who. If I was uncaring of formalities, I would have merely killed you." After a brief pause, she spoke again. "Are you able to stand?"

Her voice shook as she spoke. It was the first time the adventurers had ever met a vampire, and everyone's first time hearing the vampire's voice. It was dainty, small, and weak. She had been freshly awakened to her vampiric nature.

"I...I think so..?" She began to struggle with movement and after a few seconds, she was standing, albeit she was extremely wobbly and shaking the whole time.

Inna wondered if she had gone too far. She presumed the vampire was experienced, but she was wrong. She had to stop making so many assumptions. Her voice held an apologetic tone as she spoke. "Er...what's your name?"

The vampire seemed to panic in response. "I..I...I don't know. I can't remember. Everything is so blurry. My..my head hurts so much."

'So, she was awakened very recently. This is strange, I am glad that I accompanied them. Had it been just the three adventurers, they would have likely killed her. Assuming they made it past the gargoyles, of course.' Inna's mind was swimming with ideas and possibilities. She wasn't sure exactly what was happening, but Inna decided she would find out.

Inna decided on a course of action. Without a single word, she sliced her palm. She squeezed blood onto the ground which quickly turned into a magic circle. The surroundings flashed with a bright crimson red. After it cleared, a soft, young feminine voice resounded throughout the area.

"The the hell. I was busy doing stuff, what in the hell happened? Who the FUCK summoned me? I-" In the middle of the circle, a small girl stood. Her hair was long and pitch black. It flowed almost down to her knees. Her eyes were shaded in a deep crimson red. Small fangs protruded from each corner of her mouth. When she saw Inna, her voice trailed off mid-sentence.

Inna punched her in the stomach, hard. A massive gust of air, formed from Inna's punch, made the trees in the distance sway. The young girl's body exploded and collapsed. A good portion of her torso was gone, turned into a massive hole where Inna's punch had impacted.

The adventurers and newly turned vampire were stunned into silence. Inna waited patiently, and merely half a second later, the young girl's body began to reform. It didn't take long before she was standing back up.

She spoke, directly to Inna, not even acknowledging anyone else. "Ah, ouch. that fucking hurt. Look, Inna. You did not have to do that."

Inna responded with a hint of irritation in her voice. "Change your form. You know I hate this one. I have a task for you."

The young girl clicked her tongue. "Fine." Her form began to shift and eventually settled into a form that merely looked like an older version of the previous one. Her hair remained the same length, reaching just past her knees. She spoke again, her voice was much more mature. "Alright, what is it?"

Inna nodded. "Teach this vampire what it means to be a vampire. Hunt the vampires that took this town" She paused. "All of them. I would just do it myself, but I don't want to be away for that long."

The older woman nodded. "Fine, fine. At least I'll get to hunt some unruly vampires. I'll bring the girl to you when we're finished. Let me know if you need something else."

Inna waved at the new girl and vampire as she began walking toward the adventurers. "Oh, and Alucard, don't get carried away. Limit yourself to their realm. Veril will be upset if I unleash you in his world."
