Emma POV
Emma was going stir crazy. She had only two more days before her appointment to go back to see the pack doctor. He would tell her then if she was allowed to be off of bedrest. She felt her strength coming back and she was able to walk longer and farther every day. Logan was always hovering over her, making sure she didn't push herself too hard. Although today he had to leave the pack territory to go to another pack's territory to deal with some pack business. His beta was on guard duty today.
She liked Nathan, he was funny and sweet, but he was just as protective of her as Logan was. And she came to realize that it wasn't just Logan and Nathan either, the whole household staff, and the guards as well. They have all become so super protective. Everyone she has met so far, she has become fond of. She wasn't used to actually getting to meet people and it was a little overwhelming at first.
She hadn't gotten to meet Logan's parents or his sisters yet. They were still overseas on vacation. So far, she has met everyone on the household staff, the guards, and Logan's beta and Gamma and their mates, Morgan and Alexis. Those two have come every day to visit her, and they were becoming fast friends. She enjoyed having their company and they were teaching her a lot of things about the outside world that she had been hidden from.
Nathan walked with her and helped her walk downstairs to the kitchen. Her favorite thing to do had become sitting in the kitchen with Patricia and watching her cook. She loved the fragrances that came from the stove and the ovens. Patricia was showing her the ingredients she was using and explaining their names and what all they are used for when she heard a phone ring. She reached in her pocket and pulled out her phone, but it wasn't hers that was ringing. She looked over at Nathan to see that it was his phone.
Nathan looked at Emma and then turned and walked away out of earshot. She was trying to pay attention to Patricia, but she was watching Nathan.
"Emma, pay attention." Patricia's voice cut through her thoughts.
Emma turned back to her, "Sorry." she said sheepishly.
Patricia went back to explaining the ingredients. After a few minutes Nathan came back.
"Miss Patricia, can you keep an eye on Emma for a few minutes? I have something that I need to go handle really quick." Nathan said.
"Of course, is everything ok?" she asked.
"Yeah, everything is fine. It seems Morgan has gotten her car stuck on the side of the road. I will be right back." Nathan said and turned and walked out the door.
Emma watched and listened as Patricia put the last of the ingredients together and put them in the oven.
"How are you feeling today, Emma?" Patricia asked.
"I feel stronger. I hope that Doctor Patrick will take me off of bedrest when I go see him." Emma said.
"Well, you do look better, and your color is coming back to your cheeks." she told Emma.
Patricia looked down at her watch, "It's time to get you back upstairs and back into bed."
Emma groaned. "Do I have to?"
"Yes, Miss Emma, you do. Hop to it, let's go."
Emma got down off the stool and let Patricia lead her back up the stairs and back up to her room. Once she was settled in bed, she turned on the television and found a movie to watch.
"I will send Vicki back up with you some tea in a few minutes." Patricia said after picking up the empty glass that was on Emma's bedside table.
"Thank you, Patricia."
"You're welcome, dear." Patricia said as she left.
Nathan POV
Nathan had the gas pedal pushed all the way to the floor as he rushed to his mate. He could barely understand what she was trying to say to him because she was crying so hard. Nathan has never heard Morgan so frightened.
He picked up his phone and looked at the dot on the screen that showed him where Morgan was and where he was. He was only a few miles away from her. He had tried calling her back before he left, but her phone went straight to voicemail. When he couldn't get her on the phone, he tried to mind link her, but she had a block up, which worried the shit out of him.
He rounded the curve and slammed on the brakes. Morgan's car was sitting in the middle of the road, surrounded by wolves. He mind linked Logan.
Alpha, I found Morgan's car stopped in the middle of the road and surrounded by wolves.
Do you know what pack they are from?
No. But I am going to find out.
Lane, Adam, and some of the other guards should be getting there in a few minutes. I am on my way too. Do you see Morgan anywhere?
No. I can't mind link with her and her phone is going straight to voicemail. I think she is still in the car. I'm going to tear them to shreds if they have touched one hair on her head.
Wait until Lane and Adam get there.
No, I am going now.
Nathan closed off the mind link before Logan could command him to stay put. That was his mate, and he wouldn't wait. He put the car in park and got out of the car. The wolves were still surrounding Morgan's car, but they were now watching him, teeth bared and growling.
Nathan held up his hands. "Look, I don't know who you are or what you want, but that is my mate you have surrounded. I don't want any trouble, but I am going to her car to check on her."
He walked forward but kept his hands up. When he got to the circle of wolves, the two closest to him started snapping at him. "I can promise, if you try to attack me, you won't make it home."
He kept walking forward when one of the wolves lunged at him, he ducked and grabbed the wolf by its throat with his hand and slammed it on the ground. Another wolf readied to attack when all of a sudden it froze. Nathan could hear Lane, Adam, and the other guards growling behind him.
The wolf that was about to attack growled and then took off in the opposite direction, the other wolves following. The wolf that tried to attack was trying to follow, but Nathan still had him pinned down by his throat.
"I told you, if you tried to attack me, you weren't going to make it home. I suggest you shift back before my Alpha gets here." Nathan growled at the wolf.
"Too late." Logan came walking up behind him. He grabbed the wolf from Nathan.
"Go check on Morgan." Logan told Nathan. "If anything has happened to his mate, you will pay for it. Now shift." Logan then told the wolf.
The wolf growled at Logan and refused to shift.
"Suit yourself." He told the wolf and then tossed it to his guards. "Take it back and chain it up."
Nathan got to Morgan's car and opened the door. She was passed out in the driver's seat. He reached in and unbuckled her seatbelt and gently lifted her out of the car. He carried her over to his car and put her in the passenger seat of his.
"Adam will take her car home, get her to the pack hospital." Logan said to him. Nathan was barely listening as he jumped in the driver's seat and hauled ass back to their territory. He would make sure Morgan was alright, then he would tear the head off that wolf.
