I grabbed my staff on the way out, the familiar, cool weight comforting in my hands. As I stumbled outside into the busy street, my head was spinning. Failure? A family figure from my past? What the hell? I was so busy I knocked into someone, almost crashing both of us over.
"Sorry," I mumbled. I hoped he wouldn't be mad, but he looked shit pissed!
"You," he growled. I looked him in the eyes, my wolf trying to assert my dominance over his wolf.
"Yes, me. Move it!" I tried to roughly shove him aside to find my brother, but he caught my hands.
"You're participating in the challenge, aren't you!" he said, grinning like he had just discovered the cure for the Turned.
"Yes, wow, what an astute observation!" I said sarcastically, slow clapping. People were starting to gather around us. "Good job, little boy!" That seemed to make him even angrier, although he was obviously only a couple of months younger than me.
"I. Hate. You!" he shouted, making everyone around him, but me, flinch. I smirked.
"Fine, bring it on kid. You'll never stand a chance against me," I sneered, fed up with how this kid was acting all high-and-mighty and holier-than-thou. He needed to be knocked down a notch. I mean, I would have preferred to do it without killing him, but, hey! He started it! He said 'I Hate You'!
He lunged at me, shifting mid-air, but I sidestepped him with ease. He skidded to a stop and turned to face me, teeth bared, snarling in fury. I arched a brow at him and motioned with one finger, my staff tucked behind my back. I knew I could have beaten him more easily, but I figured the kid would be viewed with more honor (Zuko) if I made it look like he stood a chance.
He lunged at me, infuriated, as I continued to dodge and weave my way around his attacks. Finally, he lunged at my throat, and I bent underneath him (thanks, Val, for making me play limbo so much) and swept my staff across his stomach. He went flying, landing with a thud and skidding for a bit before coming to a stop. He shook his fur at me and growled, and I took that as my cue.
'Anahi, let's show these people what we're made of.' I said to her. She growled in agreement, and I shifted. My body grew and thickened up, my bones shifted and muscles reformed, thick, silky black fur sprouting from my back. The final part of the transformation took affect, my eyes changing from their regular turquoise to a piercing, almost glowing, silvery-white. Anahi was in control now.
She howled, the sound making everyone in the area stop and bare their necks to us in submission. She pounced in the poor boy, making quick work of him with a swipe of her paw.
She turned around and fled into a dark alleyway, allowing me to retake control and shift back. All of a sudden, I felt Holden spinning me around to face him, gripping my shoulders tight.
"Kaylee, Anahi," He said, addressing both me and my wolf. "Do you know what you've done? You just killed the Beta General's godson," he said. I peeked out of the secluded alleyway to indeed find the Beta General and his mate weeping over their godson's body. I turned back to Holden and gulped.
"Shit."
