Chapter 7 - Chapter Seven

One. Strike! Two. Strike! Strike! Three. Strike! Strike! Stri-

"And a special announcement from the alpha royal family themselves! They are about to visit Welshingshire, the walled fortress that houses not only a bustling and vibrant city, but also the training grounds for newly recruited Enforcers! Be prepared, folks, because they are going to enter the town square in five minutes. Casey, back to you."

The newsman's voice boomed out of the old television with the so-called 'breaking news', and I sighed and put my head in my hands. Why was this my life. Why did I have to deal with all this. Couldn't I just be left alone in peace? Why did everyone have to make such a big fuss out of these guys?

Val dragged me back into my room and threw an outfit onto the bed.

"Here. Put this on, Lee!" she said.

"What? Why? Wait, you aren't thinking of seeing the alpha royal family, are you?" She grinned at me.

"Yup! Guilty as charged!" She said. "Now, hurry up and get dressed, we don't want to be late!" I sighed in resignation, slipping on the cargo pants, dark tee, and hoodie, and within thirty minutes we were out of the door and walking towards Root Square, the center of the town.

Anahi was restless. I could feel her shifting around in my head. Something was... off. I just didn't know what yet.

As we gathered in the town square, people milling about, I started to become more anxious. Something was off. I could feel it in the air. With a blast, an announcement started booming over the loudspeakers, proclaiming that the royal family was about to arrive. Val squealed and jumped up and down, clutching my arm in excitement so hard she left marks. However, all that jumping disrupted her body, and she bent over snd started coughing out blood.

People looked over at us but didn't really pay much attention. After all, they were commoners getting to see the royal family! Why should they care about a random fourteen-year-old on her knees, coughing up blood in front of them?

Holden and I knelt down next to her, and as I did so, my hood slipped over my head and covered my face.

"Are you alright?" I asked worriedly. She nodded, but even that small action made a grimace appear on her face.

"I'm fine, Lee," she said to me.

"Are you sure? Do you want to go home? With the money we just got I'm sure that I can-"

"No! I mean, no. I wanna see the royal family. I've only ever seen them on the small TV we have back home, and this may be my only chance to get another look at them!" she protested. I looked at Holden, and he sighed in annoyance.

"Fine, but we leave immediately after, alright?" he said. Val nodded her head vigorously, and we stood up to see that the royal family was almost to the point where we could see their faces. My gaze was drawn to the figure in the center, surrounded by his parents. Anahi howled loudly, and my eyes widened at the same time his did. I mumbled a curse under my breath, and started backing away.

I grabbed Holden and Val, dashing out of there like I was being attacked by a swarm of bees. I thanked the Goddess that my hood had been covering my face so that he couldn't see it. His eyes seemed to bore holes in my back as I ran out of there, leading my family on the path that bordered the town, Turned scrabbling at the wall, futily trying to tear it down as they growled at us. I rushed inside of the house and closed the door, leaning against it and sighing.

"Hey, what the hell was that for?" Holden asked, turning to face me.

"That," I panted, sliding down until I was sitting on the floor. "Was my mate."
