Chapter 3 - The Tests

I give Grace a quick hug then grab my stuff and put it in my bag, and I run outside onto the roof. Once I get to the roof I take a deep breath then jump.My wings formed and extended so instead of falling I flew high through the air. My wings begin to push off, making me go faster and start to go higher than before.

I haven't flown in awhile, recently when I have flown it brings back the memories of how I got my wings. I try to push memories like that out, but sometimes it hurts more to push them out then to just let them flow through your mind. This time I chose to stop fighting it and just let the painful memory go, it might not seem like it to me but just letting it go was so much easier than trying to hold it in.

The memory played back in my mind, I saw my dad and uncle lying on the ground, both impaled with knives covered in violet vines. My heart stopped seeing them like this. I cried out in pain as my powers took over me, fire stormed around me bright and red. When I screamed…. All that fire exploded, setting trees around me on fire, and leaving me with these wings.

I snapped out of the memory, tears filling my eyes as I continued to fly above the trees. I took my hand and wiped the tears from my face tying to tell myself it was just a memory. I have to remember to take that pain and turn it into control, it's the only way I can ensure the protection of Grace and everyone I love.

I focused back into flying watching as all the trees and people got smaller as I got higher, the wind became colder, the air thinner and my mind clearer. Flying was my favorite thing to do when I wanted to be alone because no one else could fly to bother me.

As I flew I felt the world leave my shoulders and that dream had left my mind. All was well as I flew to see Maya.

Grace's Point of view:

After I watched Faith leave I walked down to the wolf cells to find Rhody. When I made it down to the basement I heard someone yelling for help. I walked down the hall until I made it to Rhodys cell, I saw him sitting on the bench with his face in his hands.

"You good there?" I said while opening the gate.

"Yep I'm great you know just chilling in a cell, why wouldn't I be great." Rhody said while standing up.

"I don't know you could be out there with the vampires with little control that would have no problem sucking you dry of your blood."

"You're right, it's better in here."

I giggled a bit. "He's cute when he's being funny." I thought to myself.

"I'm here to get you out so we can test you to figure out what kind of supernatural you are."

"I already told you I'm not supernatural."

"You must be, my sister knows how to use her magic there is no way she would make such a little mistake by not being able to go back through a human's memory span, the only way she wouldn't be able to go back through that little memory of yours is if you were super-natural."

"So because your sister doesn't know how to use her powers I'm accused of being super-natural?"

"I'd be careful what you say one flick of my wrist and I could snap your neck."

"Whoa whoa, before you murder me let's get into this test."

"As I thought. Now lets go out to the field."

As we walked he looked around so intrigued by all the ancient artifacts. I watched as people stared at him as we walked by, word gets around fast around here especially when Jamie finds out. I looked over to see him nervous and hear his heart beat pick up it's pace.

When we get to the field he stands there looking around like he was looking for somewhere to run. I look at him and shake my head then start walking behind him.

"Where are you going?" I hear him yell behind me.

"Back here so I can watch how far and how long you can run." I respond.

"Wait run?"

"Yep up and down this field. Get to it we don't have all day."

After I say that I watch as he starts to run down the field, I listened to his heartbeat and it was already picking up pace to twice its normal rate. As I watched I could see his face turn red and he began to sweat. I laughed as he ran up to me and fell to ground panting and hot.

"So how'd I do?" He was just barely able to get out.

"Well you just barely made it back, you're clearly dying and your heart rate is through the roof. In conclusion, you're no vampire."

"Could have told you that."

I laughed and said, "Next test is for your agility. I'm going to be throwing these balls at you. You're going to have to dodge them, if you get hit you fail the test."

"Oh that doesn't sound too hard."

"Oh it's not if, but if you don't you might get some bruises."

"Wait what?" Rhody says as I use my magic to lift five balls into the air.

"I would start running if I were you."

I watch him as he scrambles to his feet and begins to run. I give him a second then I throw the balls at him. He starts off great dodging the first few then one hits him in the stomach. He fell to the ground in pain and I ran over to him to make sure he's okay.

"Are you okay?!" I say while putting my hand on his shoulder.

"Y-yeah."

"Well umm I think we are done here there is no way you could be a vampire, were-wolf or witch Faith would have been able to tell if you were a witch."

"Again what if Faith is wrong?"

"She's not, that rock your hand is on is a magic rock that draws out all the magic from a witch, if you're actually a witch you'd be screaming in pain because that rock is draining you of your magic."

"Okay then I'm not super-natural can I go now?"

"I don't know, we need to talk to Alaric and come up with a plan on what we're going to do about the fact that you have no powers and are somehow immune to compulsion and my sisters mind tracing."

"Look, I just want to leave."

"I get it but you know this school's secret and if you accidentally slip them you'd put everyone here in danger."

"But I wouldn't say a thing, I'd keep my mouth shut and just live my life."

"We can't take those chances. There are little kids here whose lives we would be putting in danger if we let you leave with all the secrets of our school. Let's get back to the school so we can talk to Alaric about what's going to happen with all of this."

"I guess I understand."

"Thank you, now let's go."

As we walked I could see that Rhody was tired and annoyed. To be honest I felt kind of bad, but I ignored it and began to think about why Rhody was immune to our magic. As we were walking something felt wrong, as we got closer to the school I knew something was wrong. Then I heard screams we began running towards were they where coming from and I saw something I didn't think I would ever see..... A REAL GARGOYLE!? Of course the one time my sister isn't here a gargoyle just magically appears.

"Run to the class room!" I yell to Rhody, "I have to get my sister back here, she's the one who knows most about this kind of stuff and she's the one who could knock it out."

"But I don't know where the classroom is!"

"Follow the crowds, I have to go!"

I ran to the safe room where I had time to think and try to tell Faith that I needed her to come back. I sat down and closed my eyes trying to connect myself with her. When I finally did I said, "Faith get back here! We have an emergency!"
