As I sat at a desk looking for a cure for Nate I could hear Grace's voice ringing through my mind saying she needed help there was a.... GARGOYLE?! Wait, did I hear that right? A gargoyle? So they're real now and my sister is getting attacked by one and I'm two cities away from her, great what else could go wrong.
I quickly got up and ran to Maya and Nate who were going through another book. I put my arms around both of them then rested my head on Maya's.
"I'm so sorry Maya but Grace needs me." I say while walking in front of the desk.
"Is she okay?" Maya said while standing up.
"She's fine for the most part, she said something about a gargoyle and that it's attacking the school."
"Do you need our help?" Nate said while walking out from the desk.
"No between me and Grace we got this, plus it would take you too long to get there."
"Okay but if things get out of hand call me ASAP, deal?"
"Deal."
After our conversation, I grabbed my bag and ran outside. As I ran through the grass my wings formed and I took off flying as fast as I could. All I could hear was Grace's voice ringing through my head saying she was in trouble, not only is there a gargoyle she is weak now because she used our connection.
As my anger and worry grew, the fire around me grew warmer and bigger. Suddenly my speed picked up and I was going faster then I had ever gone in the past, before I knew it I was at the school. I landed in the field and started to run towards the school looking for Grace. As I ran closer I could hear screaming but then it stopped as if someone put a silence spell over them, I stopped running and stood still listening for their heartbeats and when I heard them I began running again. I knew where they were, in a class room on the first floor, lucky for me it has plenty of windows...
I ran to the classroom formed my wings and plunged through the windows to the room and landed on the ground. I looked around to see small children and then I saw Grace looking through a book.
"Someone call for Hell? Cause she's here." I say while grabbing an old sword from the wall.
"Faith!" Grace says while running to hug me.
"Are you okay?!"
"I'm fine, but we have a big problem out there."
"I know, what do we know about him?"
"He's a gargoyle."
"That's a great thing to start with but we kind of need more information to kill him."
"We don't have enough time, he's getting closer soon enough he will be in this room." Alaric says while shutting the door behind him.
"He's right. Dorian is trying to find out more about what the gargoyle's weakness is and how to kill him. Grace and I will lead him away."
"Faith, it's too dangerous." Alaric says while putting his hand on my shoulder.
"It's going to be way more dangerous when that gargoyle gets here and hurts all these kids who have nowhere to go!"
"Faith-"
"No Alaric, these people are in danger so I'm either out there or out there with my sister."
"Okay, but be careful!"
"Always am."
I walked up to Grace and grabbed her hand, light came from our hands showing that Grace's strength was coming back to her. I looked at her and she took a deep breath in relief. I knew she was struggling. After she had regained her strength I put my hand on her shoulder and looked her in the eyes, she looked back and I gave her a nod.
When I knew Grace was okay I took my hand off of her shoulder and looked around for some way to make sure the gargoyle didn't get in the room. When I didn't find anything I looked at Grace then at Alaric and shook my head. Suddenly I heard scratching coming down the walls, everyone began to breathe heavier and their heartbeats picked up.
"Grace we got to go, he's getting too close." I say while walking up to the door.
"Okay, you ready?"
"As ready as one could be."
Grace came and stood next to me, I slowly opened the door and creeped out trying to draw little to no attention to myself and Grace. Once the door was closed and Grace put a spell over it and started to walk down the hallway being cautious at every door and room we walked past. When we turned down another hallway we saw the monster himself facing the other direction.
I turned to Grace and winked, this is what I've been waiting for, something fun to let my anger out on. I walked out from the corner and stood with the sword in my hand.
"Hey cement brain over here!" I yell while twirling the sword around.
When he turned around all I could see were his blood-red eyes piercing to my soul. He started to run towards me not seeming to second guess a thing. I stood my ground then slid out of the way before he could touch me. Once I was out of his way I flung him through the window next to him using my magic.
When I ran to the window instead of falling he was flying. HOW COULD I FORGET HE HAD WINGS?! I'm an idiot on every level, I looked over to Grace who was using her magic to pick up the broken glass and launch it at the gargoyle who seemed to be unaffected. I took my sword and threw it at the gargoyle like a spear but when it hit him it just bounced off and fell to the ground.
"Grace hitting him with things isn't working!" I yell while dodging a brick he threw at me.
"Clearly, what are we going to do now?"
"Keep him away from the kids and wait for Dorian to hurry up and come up with a way to kill this monster."
"Well he better hurry up."
"Exactly what I was thinking."
As the gargoyle kept throwing bricks at me and Grace we kept dodging and ducking trying to not get hit in the face. After about a minute of dodging bricks he managed to hit me in the shoulder. I fell back into the wall, when I hit the wall I screamed in pain and Grace ran to me.
She put her hand on the shoulder that got hit and I flinched from the pain of her touch. She quickly moved her hand away and tried to get me up, as I stood up I saw the gargoyle flying towards where Dorian was.
"I'm so done with this flying statue!" I yell while stepping away from Grace.
"Faith, I know what you're thinking and I'd like you to stop thinking it! You're hurt and I'm not about to let you get even more hurt!"
"Well after I'm done with that statue he's going to be a lot more than just hurt."
After that I jumped out the broken window and my wings formed as I fell through the air. When my wings were formed I flew starting to follow the gargoyle, I used my powers to create a fireball and launch it at him. Knowing the gargoyle had no bricks to throw I knew I would be safe as long as I didn't let him get too close to me. When the gargoyle had realized I was attacking him again he started to charge towards me, I dove down towards the ground and the gargoyle followed.
I began to fly away from the school trying to keep him far away from people, but before we got far away from the school he turned around and went back to the school completely ignoring me. I flew after him, he was fast and agile, he didn't seem to care about getting hit. As I chased after him my back and shoulder began to ace, I started to slow down and dodging trees began to get more and more difficult to do.
Before I knew it I was falling to the ground as I fell I could feel my heart beat slow down, my body weakening, every bit of power I had was gone. When I felt my heartbeat begin to slow all I could hear was Grace's voice telling me to get up, so I pushed through and used every piece of strength I had left to get back to the school and kill that monster.
The trip back felt like it was hundreds of miles, my body was shutting down and I knew it but I couldn't leave Grace to fight by herself. When I made it back to the school I saw Grace with a knife in her hand facing the gargoyle. I stood up in the air and used my magic to hold him in one place while Grace stabbed him in the heart, I watched as he vanished to ash. Once I knew Grace and everyone else was safe I couldn't fight anymore, my wings disappeared and I started to fall again. My heart slowed and my fire went cold, as I fell everything seemed to disappear except the crying voice of my sister.
When I hit the ground I felt every bone shatter I screamed in agonizing pain and that's the last thing I remember before the darkness completely taking over.
