Chapter 129 - Exodia 129: Polar Opposites

How can I make some progress?

I'll be able to use Erebus in a little bit but, in that time, I need to find out how I can defeat this guy.

His sole purpose seems to be defeating me. That potent bloodlust from earlier confirmed it. I need to find a way of how I can get around other peacock feathers of his.

They can appear anywhere on his body but they can only appear through the gaps in his armour. They're hard, hard enough to defend and break Erebus' blade, and they can be used as offence too. His feather ability must be a Singularity. Every Singularity has a weakness. Even Black Exodia should have one.

Chrysus, the guy in gold armour, held his hand out.

I assumed a defensive form while casting Shadow Gauntlets.

"?"

I waited.

I thought that the feathers would spring out from his palm in the shape of a spear but nothing came out. Not yet, anyway.

Abruptly, light began converging at a point in front of Chrysus' palm. It formed a large spear of light and then divided into several knives of light.

"Light magic?! Moreover, it's incantationless!"

Chrysus shot the knives of light at me. I countered a few but most of them scrapped my body.

So this bastard can use Light Magic too?! It's my first time seeing it in action but its speed is unreal. If I were to be barraged by bigger light weapons, I'd be done.

But...

The gold armour stood there without moving.

Why isn't he moving? Is his objective not to kill me?

Chrysus tilted his head. He shrugged before dashing toward me.

I looked down at Chrysus. He was unexpectedly low to the ground.

The fact that he used Light Magic to attack me means that his feather probably has a range.

His fist brushed past my face; feathers poked out of his hand and rushed toward my face.

I purposely lost my balance so that I would fall backwards. I used my hands to propel myself off the ground and kicked Chrysus in the chest.

Erebus is almost done regenerating.

"What?!"

He grabbed one of my legs. From there, he made a sword of light and slashed it at me. I defended with a sword of shadow.

The light and shadow merged, eating each other.

I cast Shadow Gauntlet Overdrive, hitting Chrysus in the head, and sending him flying backwards toward the wall.

I exhaled.

"Still got my leg. Why didn't he use his feathers?"

Maybe because he still had his feather active on his hand. He can only summon his feather on one part of his body.

"Tch! Shit! That hurts!"

I looked at my right hand. There was a cut on the back of my hand.

"Did he do it when our swords clashed?"

I glanced at the man.

He already got out of the crater in the wall. There was a light dagger in his hand.

"Seriously? He did that when I hit him?! What a scary guy."

I'll have to use Behemoth but there's no guarantee that it'll hit.

Luckily--

I undid the Shadow Gauntlets. Two daggers appeared in my hand. The right was more like a short sword while the left was a dagger. Both their blades were black.

--Erebus has finished regenerating.

Daggers should be the safest choice. With a katana, I'll probably leave myself open too often. The scythe is large and the winding up time is too long against an opponent like this. The bow probably won't hit. With the gauntlets, I feel like they won't be as effective as the daggers.

This time, I engaged first.

I tossed my dagger at him and ran toward him. Chrysus parried it and got ready for me. I attached a Shadow Whip to the dagger and pulled it to the left--Chrysus still dodged it.

"Fuck!"

I pulled the dagger back so that it would hit his back while I faced him head-on.

My dagger would reach him before the shortsword.

Once again, he dodged my dagger by ducking. I caught it and threw it at him once more.

This time, Chrysus used his feathers to block it. I sliced at his opposite arm with the shortsword.

The feathers retracted and reappeared there. When I saw them, I used Nightwalker to get behind his back. From there, I stabbed at his back.

(No... Don't...)

"Huh?"

The course of my stab changed; I stabbed his arm instead. The moment I pulled the shortsword out, Chrysus put distance between us.

The dagger returned to my left hand. I held my head.

What was that voice? It sounded like a girl... It only began talking when I was about to kill Chrysus. Even if I did hear a voice, it influenced me to not kill him.

"Wait... That colour of blood..."

I saw Chrysus' injury.

My eyes opened wide.

Suddenly, I remembered Ms Frister's words from one of her lessons.

{"Normal Familiars do not possess blood. When Familiars are injured, they leak mana, meaning they'll secrete a blue gas from their wound. However, if you ever injure a Familiar and they leak white blood... Though this scenario is unlikely... Run. Because you all are not capable of killing that Familiar. Familiars with white blood are servants of God himself. They are called--"}

"Seraphs..."

I muttered under my breath.

Familiars with white blood mean that they are direct servants of God and they have been given his blessing. Essentially, they're angels. They are creatures who have been roaming the world since its creation. Those are what Seraphs are.

The gold armour clutched his arm. His hand was painted with white and, from the wound, leaked white blood.

Chrysus is a Seraph.

The mana from Chrysus began to rise rapidly. He was collecting mana from the atmosphere. Feeling his mana from here, it was incredibly potent. Perhaps even more so than my own.

I grinned.

"So, this is your way of saying, 'one final move,' huh?"

I released my own mana. His mana was positive and light while mine was negative and dark.

It was perfect. We were polar opposites.

Our mana met each other and clashed. There wasn't any more space in the room anymore. It was filled with our mana.

"Let's finish this, shall we?"
