Lily saw him duck and throw a punch at Allan, who blocked it and retaliated with his own punch. When Rick moved from behind, lifting his foot and intending to kick, the stranger moved back and seized his foot in his palm. At the same moment that he twisted Allan's ankle, he unleashed another punch at Rick.
Rick screamed in pain, only to be met by a strong elbow to the face, which broke his nose. Allan's gaze was attracted to his own face, and he grasped his nose as he took a step back, his eyes shining.
He ignored her and went back to sparring with her other captor. The stranger went back to sparring with her other captor, completely ignoring her. Rick's throat was slashed, prompting him to crouch and grasp his neck, before he brought his elbow down and cut into the back of Allan's neck. This time he fell to the ground in a lump.
The guy swung around and kicked Allan in the chest, knocking him to the ground. Neither of them made a single movement. He finally punched Rick in the gut and twisted Allan's ankle again. Lily froze as she heard a crunch under his fingers.
Lily moved to the sidewalk, burying herself in a little heap of snow in an attempt to flee. Her clothes and shoes did nothing to protect her from the freezing temperatures, but she had bigger issues ahead of her.
She decided herself to become silent again in order to get away from the man who had just killed both of her captors. He didn't appear to be in any distress, and he wasn't even sweating from his struggle. Her fear of his capabilities was evident. What might this stranger do to her if he could inflict so much damage to two mature men at the same time?
As the man got closer, Lily's spine straightened. She struggled to put distance between them by pushing herself further back with her arms. Her breathing became fast and rapid, her busy mind imagining a variety of ways this man could harm her.
"Are you all right?" the man questioned. His powerful voice echoed throughout the night. Her stomach squeezed with fear, and her vision began to blur once more.
Her stomach squeezed with fear, and her vision began to blur once more. She caught a glimpse of the man looking over his shoulder and muttering a curse through her fading vision. He reverted his look to her and moved closer to her, as if he tried to touch her.
Lily crawled back with what strength she had left, but her numb arms could only carry her weight a few inches. "Please, don't," she managed to utter in hushed voices.
"I won't harm you, but we've got to get out of here."
Her rapid breathing made it difficult to talk clearly, and Lily could feel her words slurring out of her mouth. "Please don't injure me, Mister." Have mercy, please."
Lily's panic grew as her vision darkened to a tint she couldn't get rid of. She felt a familiar lightness wash over her body as the blackness took over her vision.
Traec's P.O.V
I'm never going to help them again. Traec cursed himself as he walked away from his warm house.
They could hire someone else the next time Traec's Beta and his pregnant wife wanted help moving stuff.
Traec went along the path, listening to the crunch of frozen snow beneath his leather boots and not needing to keep his eyes open to know where he had been.
He relaxed his stiff shoulders, recalling his Beta's instructions. Darwin's wife would insist that they move a piece of furniture to a distant part of the home every time they put it down.
He realized had wasted six hours rearranging only three rooms in the house before she was ultimately satisfied with the result. Then he felt himself surrendering to the usual pain of need in his chest tonight, regardless of his complaining.
Darwin, his Beta, had ended up finding his mate six months ago and has been curled around her every waking hour when he isn't with Traec.
Traec recalled the the many senseless searches he had handled in the hopes of finding his partner. He had finally accepted that there was no one for him out there. The discovery made him feel worthless and sat like lead in his stomach, but he had given up hope in his pursuit.
His phone abruptly rang, interrupting his train of thought about the impossible couple napping happily in their freshly arranged home behind him. He sighed as he examined the number. What is Terrence's point in calling me at 11 p.m.? Traec replied swiftly, sneering at the noise in the background.
Terrence's voice ripped through the noise. "Traec," he said.
"Can you tell me what's going on?" he murmured, his brother's tires screeching and his frenzied breathing audible in the background.
"I'm traveling in your direction." When I get there, I'll explain, but I need to see a doctor."
"Can you tell me what you did?"
Traec grumbled. "If you cause me any more hassle, I'll rip your head."
"No, I won't. There's a woman--,"
"Terrence, if you bring another trouble into my territory to have your way with her, I will rip you alive and put your head on a stick in my front garden," Traec snarled into the phone.
Terrence had a lover with him the last time he showed up uninvited on Traec's turf and spent the entire night with her. Traec had a procession of panthers slicing across his domain the next day. They didn't go very far, and Traec had no problems about ordering them away, but his harsh behavior only added to his already damaged reputation.
"Darn it, pay attention to me!" I rescued this female who was getting beaten up on. Your pack's territory is closer to mine, and she's in desperate need of assistance."
Traec's jaw was so tightened that he could feel his teeth grinding together. In his head, his wolf scoffed. I'm not sure I believe that explanation.
"Bring her to your territory." It's only one hour away from here once more. I'm confident that your gadget will endure that long."
Traec, Terrence, and Tyler were all the fortunate rightful owners their father had bestowed them. The brothers didn't want to be in charge of each other, so when Tyler became twenty-seven, they divided the land. It had only been two years, and they were all doing well, but Terrence, who was nineteen at the time, was always getting himself into trouble that none of them wanted to do business with.
"Traec, I'm serious," his brother said as he drove his car, as if battling for control of his beast.
"She won't make it back to my pack; I'll have to have your doctor look after her." Then she can return to my land with me."
Idiot. "Fine, You should be here in ten," Traec said, clenching his teeth and slamming his finger into the phone to stop the connection.
Terrence was by far the most problematic of the three brothers. When Traec found her, he often wondered what his mate would think of him. So, if this leads to another disaster, I'm going to kill my brother.
