Chapter 3 - -Apprentice

Hunter woke up in a familiar white room, he was accompanied by a piercing headache and a blurry vision.

"Funny seeing you in here" a woman clad in white walked into the room, "I thought I told you to play it safe last time"

While talking to Hunter, the platinum blonde-haired nurse assessed him.

"How long was I out for this time?" Hunter grudgingly asked.

Hunter was used to this situation, getting beat up, getting sent to the nurse's office, and getting healed by the school nurse whose manifested power was healing.

"It's been about 12 hours since you were brought in here. Honestly, I thought you'd be out for another day after seeing the condition you were in." The nurse replied.

Hunter glanced into a mirror next to his bedside, examining his face. Following from his eye to his lips was a thin, jagged scar.

While healing was an amazing ability, it was possessed by only a few individuals. Only a few of which could heal both a wound and not leave a scar behind at the same time.

"Any chance you know who beat you up this time? Or is it the same as always? I have to make a school report and I think they're becoming suspicious of your constant 'anonymous' attackers".

"I didn't get a chance to see their faces unfortunately" Hunter replied like he had said those words hundreds of times.

The nurse asked Hunter some questions before releasing him back to his dorm. By the time Hunter got back to his room, it was dark out with nobody outside.

While unlocking his door Hunter was contemplating the day's events.

'If only I was stronger I could stand my own in front of them' Hunter inwardly cursed his weak body.

Hunter walked into his room only to find his roommate crosslegged in front of their television playing video games, his eyes glued to the bright screen.

A deadly aura was surrounding the boy, his thumbs and pointer fingers moving at impossible speeds all while his eyes never blinked.

Deciding to ignore the boy, for the time being, Hunter went to the fridge and grabbed a microwaveable meal, popping it into the plug-in microwave placed in his room by the school.

"Fucking A! Does he have nine lives or something!" the roommate's sudden outburst startled Hunter for a second.

Laying onto his back, the roommate glanced over to Hunter who was leaning against the kitchen counter waiting for his meal to be done heating.

"Hey Hunter where have you been? I was starting to get worried" The roommate asked as he was still laid out on the floor of their room.

"Still can't beat that boss, Ethan?" Hunter chuckled at the other boy's expense "I was visiting our precious school nurse again, otherwise she would get lonely without my frequent visits" Hunter replied to Ethan's question with some slight humor.

Ethan let out a deep breath and responded to Hunter.

"Come on man, just tell me who's doing it to you, I can beat their asses for you, no sweat. I deserve to know as your literal only friend at the academy"

While Ethan's comment stung Hunter, his words held some truth. While Hunter was ranked dead last in every assessment, Ethan was constantly bouncing between being in the second and third-ranked position in their grade.

"You protecting me would only cause more problems down the line, what if you weren't with me one day and they unleashed all their pent-up anger at one time. This time was lucky but next time I might not be" Hunter sadly responded to Ethan's thirst for vengeance.

Ethan sighed before replying "yea I guess your right, I wouldn't want you to suffer even more because of me"

"It doesn't matter anyway," Hunter said with a slight frown. "I've dealt with this bullshit for two years, another two wouldn't hurt"

"Whatever man, pop a squat, grab a controller and help me beat this boss" Ethan tried to lighten the mood even if it was just a tad bit.

Hunter sat down next to Ethan, grabbing his custom white and gold controller off of the shelf underneath the TV.

The boys sat in front of the TV, playing for hours with small chit-chat breaking the sounds the videogame emitted from the TV.

By the time the boys cleared the boss it was already two in the morning.

Red-eyed and tired, the boys lazily made their way to their beds, falling asleep almost immediately.

In the morning, light pierced in through the window blinds, waking up a sleeping Hunter. Looking to his left, he saw a neatly made bed with folded blankets and sheets folded at the bottom of the bed.

'He must already be at morning training' Hunter thought to himself after looking at Ethan's empty bed.

Stumbling to the bathroom, Hunter's mind was slowly becoming clearer after waking up. he bent over the sink, letting the cold water slash his face before looking up to check out his newly gained scar tainting his face.

'It's already been a day since I got my ass beaten, time flies, huh' hunter inwardly chuckled at himself.

*Bam*

Suddenly, Hunter's body suddenly collapsed to the ground, excruciating pain pierced his skull and he felt his body uncontrollably convulsing.

*Ding*

*Ding*

*Ding*

Distant rings started going through Hunter's mind while he was being assaulted by the sudden pain.

Suddenly, in front of Hunter's vision, text lines started to appear, floating in the upper corner of his sight.

The pain for Hunter did not stop, instead, it intensified tenfold. He cried out in pain, feeling as if his body was being crushed and rebuilt over and over again.

Although it lasted only ten minutes, he felt as if it lasted for eternity. Crawling into a fetal position on the bathroom floor, black ooze poured out of Hunter's pores, mouth, nose, and eyes.

As quickly as the pain came, it just as quickly left. Hunter was sprawled out on the bathroom floor wondering to himself 'What the fuck just happened.
