Chapter 7 - -Vanishing Act

With quick thinking on the spot, Hunter selected yes without any haste. The crystal then began to glow once again, giving off the same faint glow as before.

"Hunter Rowan: Power Level 0" The robotic voice from the computer spoke out loud, breaking the silence.

"Looks like something was wrong with the software," one of the assistant teachers said.

Hunter walked back to his seat, disappointed that his power level still hadn't increased even after his body changed.

"Hey man, maybe next time" Ethan sympathetically tried to console Hunter once he got back to his seat.

"I just don't get it! I train and try to manifest my power every day but nothing ever happens" Hunter said while laying his head on his desk.

"Don't sweat it, you don't have to be powerful when you have me by your side" Ethan said with a wink in Hunter's direction.

Hunter sighed at Ethan's words, knowing that he couldn't always rely on Ethan for protection.

The rest of the class went on without a hitch. They focused on combat techniques and practicing their manifested powers with the guidance of their teacher.

Feeling defeated and down, Hunter walked with Ethan toward the dining hall for lunch.

The hall was separated into two sections.

In the first section, lower nobility and those with less money bought and ate their lunch. Their buying options were limited and the eating area was just standard wooden tables with a slight polish, making the tables seem sleek and unimportant.

In the second section, higher nobility could purchase high-quality food made by some of the top chefs in the kingdom. The dining area had plenty of room with marble tables that had thin table cloths with intricate golden designs running throughout the silky cloth.

Hunter made his way to the first section while Ethan reluctantly walked over to the second.

The importance of noble lineage was important to the school, catering to the higher nobility over the rest of the students.

Grabbing a seran-wrapped sandwich from the food counter, Hunter decided that he wanted to eat in his room to decompress before the rest of his classes.

Hunter was in deep thought with himself as he walked down the hallway, not a soul in sight.

'Just how great is this system? I don't feel powerful and nothing has changed other than my face' Hunter solemnly thought to himself while walking.

Turning the corner, Hunter saw a group of boy's heading his way, seemingly not noticing Hunter's presence just yet.

Jumping back behind the corner, Hunter overheard the conversation that was going on between the boys.

"Next time I see that little fuck I'm not going to show him mercy" A girthy voice belonging to Bryce boasted out loud.

"That bastard's weak punch actually touched me. He's lucky that a teacher showed up in time or I would have killed him on the spot" Bryce's words signaled a series of chuckling that spread within his group of bullies.

Looking behind him, Hunter didn't see anywhere he could run to in time in order to hide from the group of incoming bullies.

'Come on system help me out! Do something!' Hunter thought as his heart raced at the impending danger.

[Do You Wish to Activate Cloak of Darkness]

[Yes/No]

'Is this the system's way of helping me?' Hunter thought as he muttered a quiet "Yes".

Suddenly, a dark cloth appeared above Hunter before wrapping itself around Hunter's shoulders and chest, loosely fitting around him.

The cloth that draped over Hunter's body was ragged and beaten as if it had been abandoned and forgotten for many years.

As soon as the cloak had finished draping itself over Hunter, he felt a slight tingle happening throughout his body. Looking down at where his hand was supposed to be, Hunter gasped as he couldn't see his own hand.

'It's a cloak of invisibility!' Hunter inwardly chuckled to himself.

[Cloak Activated For 30 Seconds]

[Level Up Ability For a Longer Period of Time]

As the notifications entered his field of vision, a 30-second countdown started in the bottom right of his vision.

'30 seconds is all I need' Hunter thought to himself before running around the corner towards the group of boys.

Just as Hunter expected, the group didn't notice him running at them. About 10 feet in front of the boys, Hunter abruptly stopped before walking to the wall of the hallway.

Hunter pressed himself against the cold marble wall, trying to be as flat as possible for the boys could cleanly walk past him.

As the boys walked past him, Hunter held his breath. Just as he thought that the danger was about to pass, one of the boys tripped on Hunter's foot, falling flat on his face.

Widening his eyes, Hunter thought he saw his life flash before him.

"Hahaha! No way you just fell on your face" Bryce laughed at his friend's expense.

The boy who tripped got up with a bright red face, embarrassed for tripping on what seemed like nothing.

"I could have sworn that there was something that I tripped over! I swear!" The boy who tripped angrily spoke while examining where he was just walking.

"Whatever dude" Bryce chuckled "Let's get to the cafeteria, I'm craving some steak right about now".

The group of Hunter's bullied disappeared around the corner that Hunter had just come from, allowing Hunter to let out his breath finally.

Sprinting to his room, Hunter opened and closed his door in a flash, making sure that no one was around beforehand.

Just as he entered his room, the countdown for his ability hit zero. The cloak disappeared into nothingness, a cluster of dark particles spread out before fizzling out.
