I sat and looked at the face Mathew was wearing. It was a mix of confusion, pain, betrayal and seething anger. But to be honest, from afar, it looked like he was just constipated.
"And you never told Jenny?" I shook my head.
"It didn't seem important." He looked around the little area we were sitting in and growled.
"Yes, it's important…" A look of confusion crossed his face. "Are you sure it was three?" I nodded.
"Definitely," He nodded.
"Apparently, you're meant to die after you got rejected twice. I've never heard of anyone being rejected three times…" I shrugged and took a sip of coffee.
"Well, I'm still here." He nodded.
"That's a plus…" He sighed. "Why?" He rubbed his hands on his face. "I would've never been able to reject my Jenny even if my Alpha commanded it… I've only heard of rejections when there was something drastic in the way like blood feuds and literally the two involved would kill each other if given half a chance." I shrugged again.
"Well, not having a wolf makes a lot of werewolves unsettled around me. It's why Jenny's so overprotective of me." Mathew nodded his face slightly dark.
"Bull, no human girl could carry someone as Big as Jeff two miles to the hospital at that speed." I smirked.
"I didn't say I was a normal human either." He nodded.
"I've met a few werewolves without wolves before and they were stronger than human but weaker than the lowest werewolf… You did something they couldn't." I saw the serious look in his eyes and waved a hand.
"Then I don't know. All I know is three rejections and no wolf or pack. I'm useless to an upcoming alpha." His brows knitted again.
"An Alpha rejected you?" I nodded and he seemed like he was going to fall from his chair.
"Fuck… this makes absolutely no sense to me." He rubbed his face and growled. "I'll talk to the elders of the pack." He smirked. "Don't worry I won't tell them who I'm talking about." He looked around then sighed. "There's no point in going back to the hospital… they won't have any new information." I nodded and looked to my watch.
"Plus, it's getting on a bit. Don't Kaden and Aden have school tomorrow?" He nodded and finished his coffee.
"That they do." I finished my coffee and stood up.
"Well, I think it's time for dinner and bed. Do you know any good pizza places in this town?" He grinned as he stood up.
"Definitely, we can pick up a few then head back to the cabin." I nodded and followed him to the hospital carpark where Derick's over loaded Jeep was parked.
We had returned to the Cabin and to my surprise the Alpha was still sleeping heavily. The boys on the other hand were as hyper as always and when they saw the pizza boxes they grew even more excited. Lilly too was running around and giving us big smiles.
Jenny sighed happily as we all gathered around the island in the kitchen.
"This is good." She placed Maggy into her little high seat and I got to work on her food. "You're not going to use the baby food Derick brought?" I looked to her then Mathew.
"I… don't trust it." I warmed up some of the baby food I mashed up myself. "Not just that but I took a look at the nutritional value and the ingredients, I'm not impressed." Truthfully, I wasn't able to find the baby food last night so had made a whole lot of stuff for her to eat and now just wanted to get rid of it.
Jenny nodded and looked to Mathew as he dropped the open baby food jar into the bin.
"Point taken." He went to the island and pulled open a box then slid it in front of the boys. "Dig in." They did and with no hesitation even Lilly was grasping with her tiny hands at the pizza. I watched as Mathew tested the heat then handed her a slice. Almost instantly her little face was covered in grease, cheese and tomato sauce.
I placed the baby food onto the table and Jenny took it. She nodded indicating I should eat. I didn't object as I pulled open my box and saw the look of horror on the twins face's.
"Yuck!" Kaden said as he wiped his mouth on his sleeve.
"I didn't ask you to eat it." I took a piece of pizza and chomped down. "Anyway, you guys eat pineapple on your pizza. Yucky!" I made the same face they had made and watched as they frowned.
"Can I try some?" Aden asked and I raised an eyebrow.
"I thought you guys said this was yuck?" He shrugged
"I've never tried that stuff. Dad doesn't like those black things or the mushrooms." I nodded.
"Where is your dad?" Jenny smirked as she grabbed a slice of pizza.
"Still sleeping." I looked at her and she nodded. "I told you he hasn't been sleeping well lately. It must've finally caught up with him." I nodded and looked back to my pizza.
"These are anchovies, olives, mushrooms and garlic sausage." I slid the box towards Aden and I could see Mathew watching like he was about to burst out laughing. Aden took the smallest slice he could see while dropping his half-eaten piece to the box. He sniffed and took a big bite. As he chewed his face took on a few different expressions from disgust to delight to confusion then acceptance.
"Well?" Mathew asked unable to read what he was thinking.
"I didn't like it. But… now I do…" He looked in confusion then picked an anchovy off and put it in his mouth the same look of disgust followed by delight swept over his face.
"The more you eat it the more you want it." I grinned and he chomped down on the pizza. "It's so gross but I want more." Kaden frowned as he finished his second slice.
"You smell weird now." Aden shrugged as he continued to eat. "Let me try!" Kaden tried to take the pizza from Aden and he growled at him.
"You can take a piece from the box if you want." He grabbed a slice and began to eat. The same strange wave of looks passed over his face but soon the slice vanished.
"That's weird…" I smirked and ate my third slice.
"Want another?" They both nodded and took a slice. Mathew smirked and shook his head.
"You've corrupted them." I shrugged.
"Just widening their taste world." Jenny watched the scene unfolding and smiled as she ate a slice and fed Maggy.
